sent on 08 Aprile 2022 Pros: Lightweight, compact, no distortion (corrected in the room or automatically with normal development SW), stabilization, excellent central sharpness Cons: absence of tropicalization, price (if purchased at full price) Opinion: I state that it is my first super wide angle; bought new with a great offer at just over 500 €. I had been doing the mail for a long time but after losing a similar offer I had not found him for less than 650 €. Uncertain between this and the Tamron 11-20 I chose the Sony both for the price and for the combination of compactness and lightness. Now with the 18-135, the 50 f 1.8 and with the Lumix TZ100 h completed my ideal photo kit for travel. I have not yet thoroughly tried the SEL 10-18 but the first impressions (a 50ina of shots) are more than good. Excellent central sharpness with a bit of loss at the extremes but nothing serious. As for the usual talk of distortions and vignetting, the problem does not exist because if you shoot in jpg the correction is automatic in the camera (not deactivable) and if you shoot in RAW, Lightroom has the objective profile and even here the correction is automatic. If you do not own LR, Sony's proprietary software, free, (Imaging Edge) automatically corrects and so does Capture 1 (free Sony); just know how to use the development software and you're done, they do everything themselves. Overall the lens is really fun and allows a remarkable creativity, surely it should be part of the Sony 6XX0 kit. Of course the Tamron is f2.8 but it is not stabilized, so with little light the differences are not so dramatic. EDIT: here is a small gallery of the first photos taken with this lens: https://www.juzaphoto.com/me.php?pg=327269&l=it
sent on 01 Gennaio 2021 Pros: 10mm, no distortion, sharpness, stabilization Cons: very light Aberrations at F4, loss of sharpness between f16 and f22, price Opinion: I fell in love with this optics for the little I used it. We are talking about an exceptional ultragrandangolo that goes up to 10mm (15mm equivalent on FF), ideal for landscapes and reportage. In the backlight you can make a perfect starlet already at f16 and despite the sharpness goes slightly to be blessed due to refraction, it is really pleasant to use even at these openings. The stabilization combined with the fixed f4 opening makes it perfect even at night, with a safety time of 1/13 (in some situations 1/8 and 1/6 are safely feasible) that allows you to safely make some night skis
sent on 20 Giugno 2020 Pros: Compact, fast focus, sharp, color yield. Cons: The price, maybe. but in the norm for valid optics. Opinion: I'm from Nikon and Fuji. I took this lens with a lot of uncertainty, because of the not always positive reviews. I use it on the A6400, especially for photos of landscapes and gives me many satisfactions. In my opinion it has nothing to envy to the peers of fuji and nikon. Very beautiful, saturated and contrasted colors. Sharp enough. I didn't see any particular flare problems. I am fully satisfied with it and I would recommend it.
sent on 17 Agosto 2019 Pros: Compactness and lightness, unique wide-angle zoom for Sony apsc Cons: performance not at the height, plastic (but serves to contain weight), never incisive Opinion: I had two copies, believing that the first had failed by reading here and there the variability of yield that you could face: the second had the same yield.... Quite disappointed, it is an optics with which any diaphragm you get the feeling that it lacks contrast, the file is never really detailed, it lacks crispness. In short, a valid ally but nothing more, because in the end it is a compromise, or rather an athlete who competes alone. At present, for 500euro it may be worth the purchase to be covered where at least two lenses would be needed, thus avoiding continuous optical changes in perhaps windy environments. Pay attention to Amazon, often and willingly reaches the 580euro new sold and shipped by Amazon, but just as often it jumps to 700 or 800euros. Warehouses should also be kept an eye on!
sent on 02 Luglio 2019 Pros: Lightness and compactness, image quality and fast and precise af. Cons: Borders and list price. Opinion: A comfortable optics. Surely it's the adjective that first comes to mind when I think of the 10-18 Sony. Small, very light, it's in your pocket. Before taking it (as new on warehouse at just over 550 euros) I was travelling even lighter with 16-70 and Samyang 12, but it was a continuous optical change, and when you use the filters - adapters is really a break of boxes. So I decided to take this little one that obviously will not replace the Samyang (other thing like general quality and brightness) but it is definitely helping me a lot in the various situations where the 12 mm is too open and serves a few more mm. But even where 12 is too little, because those 2 mm at the bottom are definitely many. The thing that worried me most about this lens was the quality of the image, which instead proves absolutely up to par and well balanced with respect to the type of optics that it is. The aberration is also contained (here it does much better than Sammy). I do not express myself about distortion because I have never understood how to evaluate it and shooting natural landscapes, straight lines I have never seen. After heavy use in my excursions I can point out edges not exactly sharp to all openings. Rating: 8/10
sent on 01 Ottobre 2018 Pros: Light, compact, stabilized, af fast. Cons: Not cheap. Opinion: Slow with good performance, moreover stabilized. I find it - in my limited experience with wide angles pushed - extremely compact and light and it seems to me that (my specimen) has good sharpness: in general I am satisfied. It's not a cheap lens (but I don't think there are many other alternatives with comparable characteristics for aps-c e-mounts).
sent on 08 Gennaio 2018 Pros: - Cons: - Opinion: it's the first time I use such big angles, I've only used a 20mm on 24x36 sometimes. The distortion (barrel) seems to me very well correct even the smallest focal length, the distortion reptile complained by some, the shorter focal length, is due to the non-perfect orrizzontalità axis of the lens, focal length so reduced you have to be very careful leveling up.
sent on 17 Ottobre 2017 Pros: Useful for photos and videos, sharpness Cons: Distortion Opinion: I took it in July for the holidays. I hardly got it off with a 35mm 1.8 and a 18 105 f4. Very useful for photos and video too. Ideal on an a6500 so it does not "sform" it too much like balancing and taking. Obviously 10 distortions but nothing that can not be repaired in post. Optics that gives very sharp photos, which does not do the 18 105. Lens recommended though the costs of sony are certainly not the most accessible.
sent on 23 Febbraio 2017 Pros: compact, crisp, great af, ease mounting filters, 15mm equivalent Cons: Price a bit 'high but average, flare with front light, lights not beautiful. Opinion: I have long been undecided before purchase because of little rave reviews, then I am convinced thanks to the review of Juza. I agree with him in saying that instead this lens is perfectly usable. I coupled to the A6500 and the results are very positive. The distortion is corrected well in the room and the sharpness is excellent throughout the frame diaframmando from f / 5.6 onwards. The refractive index is felt to f / 16. The lens from its best between f / 8 and f / 11. rnNon I noticed chromatic aberration problems but suffers a little 'flare with strong front light. You get discrete "stars" on the light points closing but did not reach the level of the 16-35 type lenses Nikon (I refer to the one that I know well). RNLA stabilization with a6500 is great but I do not know if the merit is of the body or the lens (or both). Af always precise and discreet, in combination with interesting focal even allow shots street very immersive. rnTutto all it was a good buy and coupled lens body does not make me regret the d750 and 16-35 nikon. Me too I would recommend their purchase!
sent on 04 Luglio 2016 Pros: very compact, lightweight, fast and quiet AF, stabilizer, relatively bright Cons: a little less sharp and 'large' compared to the Sigma 8-16 that I used previously. Opinion: After photographing for many years with the Sigma 8-16 (I consider the best wide angle for APS-C), I chose to go to the Sony 10-18 for various reasons: to avoid the use of adapters, reduce the overall dimensions and weight ( Sony 10-18 Sigma weighs a third of 8-16 + adapter and is along the middle). At 225 grams, the Sony is really a featherweight; despite this it is a brighter stop of the sigma and is also equipped with image stabilization. In the past I had avoided this lens because the tests I had seen showed a very poor quality; perhaps Sony has improved over the years because the copy I bought is more than good - is a less clear coat 8-16 in the corners, but overall it is fully usable at all focal lengths and all the diaphragms. If you have a Sony APS-C camera, I definitely recommend buying this wide angle.
sent on 10 Dicembre 2015 Pros: Excellent build quality and optical performance, more than excellent particularly to 18mm and fairly even in the range of diaphragms Cons: Price, important perspective distortion towards the edges at 10mm but remains "planar" and the lines remain quite straight. Opinion: The possess almost a year of using it A6000 and also on NEX3n. Lens very funny in the street, both on "architectural" that kind of live handled. Lens ideal for shooting from center stage. Great for landscapes, pleasant "star" effect photographing backlit diaphragm inquadrato.rnAttenzione closed with the sun because it is a "handyman", is a specialized lens, push, that must be taken in combination with other less thrust of focus for use in round. In the street it should combine it with a 24 and a 50 not to miss niente.rn
sent on 22 Aprile 2014 Pros: Excellent build quality, focus, well-wheeling without jamming as well as the zoom operation ring. My best results I have achieved at f / 8, although excellent from f / 5.6 to f/16. I have no way to express myself even more technically, but I must say that I fully satisfies. The drop in brightness and resolution at the edges is also contained at full aperture. The weight is consistent for use with the Sony Nex-7 and the other optical in my possession all Sony does not exceed 300g with lens hood and front and rear caps. Cons: The one in my possession optical filters with diameter of 62mm, the other 49mm diameter filter mount. The price of Euro 791.99 is the highest of all the series of Sony SEL lenses for the Nex, but justified by the complexity of construction of wide-angle zoom. Opinion: Purchased recently, I have to say that the lens has been given me great satisfaction. Used especially in the wide-angle position I was able to take some photos decidedly sharp and full of detail. At the optics are interested in purchasing an invitation to look at the photos taken by me and other photographers on this website.
