sent on 26 Febbraio 2019 Pros: Working distance, sharpness, OS Cons: For me none, a lot of people complain about the weight of the lens but for me it has not been a problem at all, but I have owned 2 180mm macro lenses before so I guess I knew what to expect. Opinion: This is the best macro lens I have ever used, I have owned several macro lenses over the years beginning with the old 90's version all metal Canon 100mm f/2.8 that elongated as you focused closer to your subject, then the Canon 100mm 2.8 USM followed by the Sigma 180mm f/3.5 then the Sigma 150 OS and also the Canon 180L and the Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS.... None of them compare to this lens. This lens is sharp and bright. In the past I have done a lot of reversed lens macro which is very rewarding, shooting up to 4:1 with a 28mm lens reversed on a full set of tubes, but it is also very challenging and requires an elaborate flash setup, you don't just grab your camera and go. I bought this lens to have a good telephoto prime in the 200mm range that also has macro capabilities, when it arrived I was stoked, it is a beautiful lens, truly striking. It replaces my Sigma 150mm macro that also has OS, which I feel is a better lens than either of the Canon lenses I have owned, but this lens is on a different level than even the 150. I have never thought that OS was important on a macro lens because honestly I didn't think that it worked for macro, but I can tell you that after shooting with both the older Sigma 180 and the Canon 180L that the OS on this lens actually works, you can use this lens in the field without the aid of a tripod or flash and get excellent results, something that was difficult at best with my other two 180's. For the inexperienced in macro, the longer the focal length the more difficult it is to control motion blur when shooting at or near full macro, the 180mms on Canons and the 200mms on Nikon were almost useless for handheld macro in the field without either a good flash solution or a tripod and as far as I am concerned tripods themselves are pretty much useless unless you are in a macro studio or shooting flowers on a very still day, everything seems to move in nature and your DOF is so very thin, for me handheld macro is the only way I want to shoot in the field, you have the freedom to move with your subject while not lugging a tripod all around the field. Anyway, to summarize, the build quality of this lens is excellent, the focus is slow for a big prime lens but that is always to be expected on a macro lens, Sigma made a big leap forward in the finish and styling of this lens, it is a big gorgeous lens, and most importantly it has the best IQ of any macro lens out that that I have seen and I have owned quite a few, and lastly and very important for a macro lens of this focal length, it is easy to use albeit heavy for some. Also, one last note.... this lens absolutely and in no uncertain terms smokes the Canon 180L
sent on 09 Ottobre 2021 Pros: Sharpness Cons: Hood, weight Opinion: I have owned it for three years and it has given me satisfaction, also combined with the TC 2 Sigma that allowed me to shoot insects without entering their space. Taken used equal to the new by a friend, I must say that it did not disappoint me, even if there are sharper macros, its focal length allows it to be used at a distance for insects, generally more suspicious. Very good the blurred. The AF, has some hesitation and in macro always preferable to work in manual; combined with the TC 2 Sigma did not disappoint me as I feared, although a loss of sharpness is noticeable. On D810 with BG I often worked freehand without problems but, given the weight, for non-prolonged periods.
sent on 30 Dicembre 2018 Pros: Great but not "excellent" as the price Cons: Poor construction and ignoble lampshade, unusable filters, quality not up to par with the new proposals Opinion: I have to update the review after trying other much cheaper deals. This lens costs over 1300 euros regularly imported and simply does not worth them. It's a multipurpose lens, on Sony and Canon it becomes a very respectable canvas with a very good AF, but it is behind a 70-200 2.8 decidedly more flexible. It's a macro lens, and some AC you notice. Nothing limiting, but at almost 1500 degrees of macro lens you have to aim for APO performance, which this lens does not clearly achieve. The sharpness is also high but not from 10 to 10 as can be a modern macro ( sigma art 70 or irix 150 for example ). The construction is of poor caliber like the old sigma, decidedly distant from the new art-sports. Summing up is a lens that wants to be "everything", but in practice it has important limitations in every area in which it would like to place itself. For macro has some AC and the inability to use filters, for sport is a fixed and not too long with an AF less than 300 2.8 or the modern 70-200, for portrait is a beast that will make the shooting session a hell. Basically wherever you want to place it, there are better and cheaper lenses. I think Sigma urgently needs to update this lens, bringing the image quality to the level of 70 Art, reducing the front diameter (also closing to f4 the diaphragm ) and filing the price to a more suitable figure. The lampshade does not comment on him because he is slack, plastic, ignoble.
sent on 16 Aprile 2018 Pros: Sharpness, brightness Cons: Kinda heavy, but it is getting used to an inability to find a ring flash diameter 86; you have to use a gearbox. Opinion: I have used it for years on Canon 100 macro 2.8 L, great lens for which I am extremely happy with it. Lightness is certainly one of his best qualities. The Sigmone I picked it up because the bugs don't like too much the closeness of the photographer and the Canon is a bit short. Overall I am very satisfied of the quality of the files; wonderful blur. It seems a little slow in focusing when you set AF for use as a medium telephoto.
sent on 17 Febbraio 2018 Pros: Stabilization, brightness, great definition, perfect balance if used with reflex equipped with battery grip. I feel great both with D810 and with 5DS R. Cons: A bit 'heavy for those who are not used to optics of this type, of course, the cost and not easy to find in used if you are looking for the Nikon attack. Opinion: I purchased the Sigma 180 Apo Macro f: 2.8 EX DG OS HSM after having used for years its non-stabilized predecessor and with maximum aperture f: 3.5. rnMi I expected a lot of new Sigma stabilized ef: 2.8 and expectations have not been betrayed: it is an exceptional lens that can offer resolution and color rendering really remarkable.rnEnthusiasted by the results on Canon 5DS R, I also bought with Nikon attack and I use it on D810 with great satisfaction.rnE 'a lens that lends itself to the use of macro as well as medium-telephoto: I used it for panoramas, architectural details and, of course, for macro photography. Together with Nikon AF 200mm f / 4 D ED IF Micro is my favorite long focal lens for macro.rnrnQui outputs some shots made with Sigma optics, including the 180 / 2.8 Apo Macro object of the review: rnrnhttps: // www. flickr.com/photos/henry62/albums/72157670323095324
sent on 17 Ottobre 2017 Pros: Good Af, fast precise no calibration ... !!!! ??? and good as well with Nikon 1.4 Cons: weight! weight! weight! mmm ... then every time the stabilizer is turned on ... Opinion: there is not 70 200 to hold ... kind of optical aberrations to look for with 200 300%, now used only for portraits, very blurry good engraving throughout the frame, great stabilizer but ... for me it would be pretty much perfect if it was not a whalebone nearly 2 kg !!! To say the old nikon 180 2.8 is not so evolved, it's not macro, it's not stabilized, weighs less than half ... 760 grams, though, here's my heretic part .... better or the like? 200 f 2 vr ??? for some could be a viable alternative (to the King 200 F2) cheap and even light ... gulp .. I said ... indeed .. I also wrote it !!!
sent on 08 Settembre 2017 Pros: Perfection in fire, unparalleled sharpness Cons: Weight, size, price Opinion: To define with one word "FAVOLOSO". I came to mind to raise my mind by replacing the already good model 3,4 with this but I did not regret it. The old man went fine with the reflexes of the era like the D300 with regards to the MAFe AF, for the sharpness we are instead. I use it with its duplicate 1.4 Sigma even for avifauna when I can get close enough to the subject and considering that I use a 7200 in the end I'm in my hand, croaking on the room, almost a 500 mm with minimal focus. Stunning in all with unparalleled clarity (just see the MTF charts). Color rendering is great. With the fact that 1: 1 focuses on infinity, many fashion photographers are using it to open up close-ups of faces with excellent results.
sent on 25 Giugno 2017 Pros: Bright color images and great brightness Cons: Price Opinion: I'm passionate about macro photography and that's why the 105 Sigma is not enough anymore. In addition, a focal length of 180mm allows you to shoot at a proper distance from the subject without the presence of the disturbance and the chance to escape. (Insects) rnOpen the stabilized lens.rnI will also use the first floor.rnUsed on Nikon D750 and D500
sent on 16 Settembre 2016 Pros: Risolvenza, brightness Cons: Weight Opinion: I was looking for a telephoto lens which would allow me to make the most of the sensor of my Sony A7RII, and I must say that with this Sigma (with Canon attack) finally found it. Risolvenza incredible already at f4, at or above my excellent Sigma 35 Art. The definition is still acceptable at 2.8 (in my opinion light years ahead of the Sony 70-200 f4 G). Focus working with Metabones (I do not do sports or hunting, so I can not say giudevo dicarla much). excellent stabilization, because augmented by the "Room". I am exploring the incredible potential macro (it's a genre that I beat little so far). The weight is high, but also because it is a bright tele macro. Pleasant blur. Cost broadly commensurate with the quality. rnAggiorno review after a trip to Iceland, where I made an intensive use. What about: breathtaking. I also tested the focus with birds in flight, and I must say that for my miserable necessity isIt has been incredibly effective (Always on Sony A7RII with Metabones).
sent on 27 Febbraio 2013 Pros: truly excellent image quality, brightness Cons: the weight and the cost Opinion: I've only done a few test shots with this lens associated with Canon 6d but I was impressed with the macro definition is in the picture in landscape photos. Despite the weight I took a free hand, the 'objective and well-balanced system of quiet autofocusing, and quick enough especially when using the selector that allows three options focusing 0.47-067m, 0.67 m-infinity and full . Since the diameter of the lens (86mm), the focal length and the weight becomes an objective quite bulky which penalizes the transportability. The yield in the details, however, compensates for these "defects"
