sent on 03 Settembre 2016 Pros: Very Compact size and weight; Smart new 'Contemporary' design and appearance; Price; 3 Year extended warranty, Pleasant zoom action; 'Close Focus' ability; small 62mm filters; Zoom lock Cons: Back focusing issues (complex and untreatable); slow f6.3 at 200mm; OS does not give confidence; manual focus can only be engaged by disengaging AF on both lens and camera, vague and imprecise action. Lens coatings and contrast not up to Nikon standards. Opinion: Very good price new (but still more than Tamron) to replace my old and rather tatty and not nice to use Nikkor 18-200mm VR Mk1, which I sold, whilst there was some value in it. I decided that even the Mk 2 Nikkor is basically the same optical configuration as the 2005 Mk1 and that Sigma, with its up to date Contemporary range might well compete favourably, if not exceed Nikon's aged offering, now. Whilst the Contemporary Sigma does not have the high contrast and punch of the Nikkor, it still is sharp and detailed at lower focal lengths. Despite some difficulty getting properly sharp results in dull, flat lighting at 200mm with the Sigma, in good light it is sharp enough throughout the focal range. However, the real problem was a hard to diagnose back focusing issue, but whilst I eventually dialled in -12 into the D7100's 'AF Fine Tune' data bank, this figure was only applicable at 200mm and focus was visibly 'out' by zooming out to 135mm, getting more and more out as the focal length widened. I wasted a lot of good shots at longer lengths previous to this as when the focus was set at default and at 18mm, this was correct. In the end, the only true way I could get reliable sharp focus was to focus manually and this lens is NOT designed for such, with the rather dark long end and loose manual focus ring. It was suggested that I would have to buy the Sigma USB Dock to correct this issue but I do not have any issues with my excellent 17-70mm f2.8-4 Contemporary and my Sigma Art 30mm f1.4 had an simple issue that was easily correctable, so I refused to pay an extra 15-20% for a gadget that I would potentially only use the once (and the shop did not stock it anyway). So, I insisted that the lens was not suitable for purpose and demanded a refund. I did get some nice images from it though and when it worked properly, the zoom and handling was good. I also found the OS system did not seem to hold the image steady at all, though it seemed to be working, which at 200mm can be usueful simply for composition. The lens' light weight, compared to the extra 150g of the Nikkor meant initially some camera shake, despite the OS, as I was simply too optimistic in its abilities. IF you can find a good example, then potentially, this might be a great lens, but for the more serious and advanced photographer, perhaps the excellent price/features ratio is just too high a demand to compete favourably with the more than twice the price Nikon. My option is now a used Mk2 Nikkor or more likely, a more modern design, albeit lower specification and possibly more suited to the D7100 sensor, the now popular 18-140mm. As it is, my need for such a lens is less to do with just using one lens but to bridge the gap between my Nikkor 10-24mm and Sigma 150-500mm. I initially awarded (which I cannot withdraw) a score of 9/10 but with the issues I encountered, I can now only offer 6/10.
sent on 24 Novembre 2024 Pros: A true all-rounder, very low weight and size Cons: it must be calibrated but then it becomes a bomb Opinion: Since I got it it has a fixed pair with the Nikon D500, initially inaccurate but once calibrated with the Sigma dock it turned out to be really remarkable. The autofocus is fast and accurate, the stabilizer is more than honest. A lens with which you can also have fun doing something macro. Considering the cost, it is overall an excellent goal.
sent on 08 Gennaio 2022 Pros: Unbeatable dimensions and weight, good sharpness, brighter than you could imagine from the license plate data, very good construction in relation to the price, excellent value for money. Cons: Just enough stabilization (I would say 2 stops no more), not very precise focus in low light conditions, especially on long focal lengths, fine manual focus not possible in automatic mod Opinion: I speak because I read about sharpness problems between 24 and 50 mm ... that had somewhat disturbed me and made me doubtful about buying it or not. my bought on eBay, as "open never used", at 230 euros. Tested on 850d in low light conditions, or in the evening in the tavern with 3000k LED light. 3200 iso (the maximum acceptable with 850) time 1/40, aperture the maximum allowed by the lens for each length. I detect, in the middle of the image, constant sharpness at 18,24,35,50, 80, 135, 200. Crop at the telescope level, good just for the theory, the perception of sharpness or not stops much earlier... From this point of view no problem. The effectiveness of stabilization, on the other hand, is low... I shot freehand but with the camera resting on the backrest of a poang, so the only movement possible vertical inclination ... At more than 1/40 it is not easy to get a firm shot in these light conditions. Same test with Canon 15-85, you get to 1/8 without problems. Another problem.. focus with little light, at 200 but also a little earlier... there is no verse, it is not precise. At iPad size you do not notice, a crop telescope you can see how ... in manual returns perfect. The lens has no front/back focus problems, I tested that too... just is not very precise the autifocus in certain conditions. I didn't make any fine adjustments or firmware updates, the lens is how I got there. Weighing its limits, as a lean all-rounder optics I find it difficult to overcome. I do not have eos M but in my opinion on that body this optics is better than the native (it reads little good ..)
sent on 17 Luglio 2020 Pros: Size of 18-55!!! , price, focal excursion, sharpness for a whole do, up to about 115mm is f/5.6 , for example the ef-m 18-150 to 60mm is already f/6.3. Cons: Faulty examples? The first 24 to 45mm was outrageous ... then replaced by amazon and this is top ! Opinion: I have a canon eos m50 and I needed a handyman for when we go to the zoo with the baby, holidays etc... and here I am, I use it with the canon adapter and it goes that's a wonder. Well meanwhile it's small to be a 18-200, quite silent even in the videos, I do not know how canon face to make them completely silent (e.g. 18-135 nano usm), I replaced just the usm to have more mm. Well the sharpness is good for an all do and I am satisfied for the outputs I have written before and it is very constant. The stabilizer is very effective, at 200mm I snapped at 1/25 freehand , however compared to the 18-135 usm as times we are there, but the canon had in the crosshairs just the still preview motionless... sigma no, but I don't care. I went to the zoo and overseas just with that. It's as big as an 18-55, it comes up to 200mm, paraluce included in the 330 degrees, well good sigma. at 18mm: definitely that good, identical to sigma 17-50 both to f/5.6 up to 24mm: ditto as at 18mm from 28 to 50mm : less good than at 18-24mm as sharpness but still ok "50 to 80mm" : good "80 to 135mm" : It's back to being definitely more than good at 200mm: and here the wonder... even sharper than at 135mm!!! Its center and edges consistency is really good, just close the diaphragm and the edges improve in an instant, for example I sold after 1 hour the 17-70 sigma C f/2.8-4 , at the edges not even at f/11 improved (then in the tests watched they said expressly that strangely the edges did not improve by closing the diaphragm to all the focal points, but if I saw them first with cabbage that I took it, but x luck I made the Amazonian return ). Overall it is promoted with flying colors, too bad the first specimen arrived me with problems especially at 35mm where the image was almost blurry, made rider and they replaced me the lens before I sent back the old x compare them at my request , top! Obviously an all-rounder should not be compared with the fixed, in fact I have 3 but I do not even compare them... but I had the 18-150 ef-m (native then x m50) and I didn't like it at all, vs the 18-200 that I now lose 3-0 as image quality. Instead the 18-135 is usm canon I exchanged it with this only x have extra mm, as IQ I think are on par and the canon is super mega hyper silent in the autofocus, the sigma ne noisy and silent, stands in the middle :) but it has a whopping 65mm and at the zoo and overseas they made me very comfortable! Ducis in fundo... before taking this 18-200 I had also rated the 18-300 always sigma C , but seeing the tests was definitely inferior to this so have mm but x be less than mediocre even no, I realized that they can not be perfect the handyman, so the 18-300 and 18-400 I would let them go (definitely better a smaller sensor and excellent optics example rx10 m3-4 or fz1000 II) , but the 18-135 and 18-200 are a godsend in those exits where you want to bring a lens only, in the outside is their world... x the interior and evening x luck invented the fixed lights :)
sent on 16 Luglio 2020 Pros: Zoom opening block key, small, well done, bright, fast focus. Cons: Not yet found Opinion: It seems to me well done and very useful as a handyman, going to the mountains and doing many panoramic and "looking" animals to photograph, to me it seems a very good compromise, it is sharp and bright, so the photographs remain more than excellent, obviously taking it to the limit of 200mm, definitely loses slightly of quality, but still satisfying. I am certainly not a professional nor a luminary of photography, but simply a lover of nature and beautiful photographs and this lens fully meets my expectations and what is not small, at least for me, without having to carry a set of goals that weigh and slow you down in case you want to photograph a chamois running in front of you.
sent on 19 Maggio 2020 Pros: Small, solid and well-built, exceptional sharpness for a superzoom even at TA, fast focus and silent Cons: It does not have full-time manual focus, not very effective stabilizer Opinion: Zoom all-rounder very versatile and powerful. I find it well built, compact and light, slightly larger than a 18-55 kit, the barrels are well fried and does not suffer at all from "zoom creep". The sharpness is very high even enlarging the photos to 100%, excellent color rendering and good contrast. Closing it by a stop results exceptional results at all focal points, even at 200mm the yield is very satisfactory, you do not notice any drops of contrast or sharpness. The focus is fast and I thought it was quite precise, even with very little light (but here also comes the excellent AF module of my Nikon D7200). The stabilizer is not very powerful, and at least on my D7200 the effect of sight stabilization is not visible (in the photos you can see it). Like the 17-50 2.8, on Nikon I get the bug of previewing the photos that remain on the screen, unless I press any button. The vignette is evident a little to all the focal points, which can be solved by closing the diaphragm a little or with photo editing programs that with a click eliminate or minimize any optical defects. The chromatic aberrations are not obvious, my specimen has an excellent collimation, and blurring point objects not known coma or other type of anomalies that would suggest an untreated optical system. The bokeh is a bit "nervous", especially when it concerns subjects with tree-lined backgrounds and with many details. If you detach the plans more, however, you don't notice much. Obviously the price to pay to have a zoom of these features and compact is the brightness, at 200mm closes at f6.3. Anyway using it during the day or with flash you will not have any problems whatsoever. It does not have full-time manual focus, the AF dial spins during focus (which is silent and fast), however the front element does not move, so there are no problems in using filters such as polarizers or graduated. In conclusion, I was very impressed by the sharpness and the rendering of the colors, I did not think that an 18-200 could be so sharp and satisfying. It is light, well built, with a beautiful metal attachment and a very well made satin finish. It is also programmable with the special usb dock (great for updating the firmware and to correct any back/front focus issues at various focal points and distances). I'm very happy to have him (re)bought it, I don't know how the older brother goes 18-300, as far as this, a nice 9 deserves it.
sent on 01 Marzo 2020 Pros: Excellent sharpness, lightness and compactness. Reduced filter diameter, effective stabilizer. Cons: Sensitive to the cold, my copy below zero degrees struggles to focus during the first attempts after ignition. Noisy stabilizer. Minimum diaphragm at 6.3 after 125 mm. Opinion: Successful goal! It's perfect for light outings: I use it together with a canon eos 200d and i take it everywhere even when I practice cross-country skiing... Very constant sharpness... amazing considering the price range! Sigma is both innovative and commercially clear: thanks to the art, sport and contemporary series, each of us can move easily in the choice.
sent on 03 Settembre 2017 Pros: Great steady stability from 18 to 200 at TA, construction, dimensions, price ratio, stabilization, bokeh, compatible with the Sigma Dock USB Cons: Not detectable for a Superzoom Opinion: I needed a superzoom for light outputs to match my fix kit and zoom 2.8. Obviously, you can not take the quality of fixed and zoom from this little excursion to this kind of goal. But this optic has not succeeded, moreover, as well as all the Sigma A, C and S optics. It has excellent clarity at all openings and all focuses and the stabilizer is excellent. The construction is great, the smoothness of the rings is very pleasant, the keys are very sharp, the hood is great. All this in the size of an 18-55. What to say highly advised, my had the correct maf. For the sake of taking it I compared it to Sigma 18-300 C: Bigger and Heavy, Fear of 300mmrn-Nikon 18-200 VR or VR II Micromax: Lower Image Quality, Printable Quality.
sent on 20 Aprile 2015 Pros: Versatility, good definition and crisp even in complex, light and well built but not sealed. Beautiful colors. Good price. Cons: Some aberrations and 200mm few pictures I was not convinced. Opinion: I wanted a lens that had a good value for money and I found it. To read and outputs without being so much to ponder and disassemble objectives, rather than big money spender in bridge or compact high board I preferred this for my nikon d300 and I was not disappointed. Having only fixed I was a bit "tired". Small lightweight fast in focus beautiful colors and beautiful detail even in close-up shots. Some aberrations at all openings and in critical light conditions and 200mm few photos was not quite clear, in that range of focal length is not simple. Promoted, also for the good price and quality.
sent on 20 Marzo 2015 Pros: I bought this lens a few days and I must say it is giving me satisfaction for the sharpness and speed of focus Cons: is not weather sealed Opinion: I think the Sigma 18-200 F3.5-6.3 II DC with this OS has done a great job of research. I thought that there were only those Canon (like quality ') instead of me I had to change his mind. I highly recommend everyone to provarlo.rnPS anke I was lucky having found the last sale in the window of a large retailer in a shopping center at a price speciale.rnQuesto I bought maybe is the latest version than the picture, because is imprinted II HSM.
sent on 17 Gennaio 2015 Pros: Color reproduction, stabilization, sharpness above average and price Cons: If I have to find fault, does not have the full time MF Opinion: I purchased this light for a second kit lighter and practical, use this lens on a Canon 7D when I visit the city or travel where there are the possibilities of being able to make changes in that given its optical zoom range gives me the opportunity to seize several details. Things I have impressed are two, first stabilize very effective and precise, the second is the sharpness unthinkable for a lens in its class, the images appear more defined and the photos are not mixed in the background plus playback Color is really good even at 200mm (considered that I shot mostly in RAW) .rnIn truth I was very skeptical about the quality of these objectives handyman, but I must say that with the Sigma series Contemporary has made great strides, along with this perspective I also bought the USB Dock which gave me the opportunity to download the latest fimware available, also you can also make fine adjustments AF directly coNo program Sigma.rnIn nutshell if you want a view to travel or to stay still occasionally lighter recommend this Sigma that surely will give you file really beautiful !!!!

sent on 03 Giugno 2014 Pros: Generous in the light, stands out from the night nikon optical pesantina but very solid macro and a great all-rounder Cons: Pesantino with 200 paintings becomes unwieldy call trippiede not weather sealed pipe assembly and only 18 to 200 people tend to photograph the shadow of the tube Opinion: Bought used presents an excellent optical handyman macro as well when you're at the bottom with paintings try to create the dark corners but all in all an excellent yield for money in portraiture allows you to introfularti scenes without trouble to get too close to the subjects the great macro but must be careful to put it upside down because if you do not hold well in fact you end up way down the block who would be comfortable interacted over the entire focal length but too much to ask.
