sent on 02 Gennaio 2024 Pros: Lightweight, weather resistant, solid construction to be an optical kit, optical design that can reserve surprises if you have a good specimen Cons: I've had 5 examples of 18-55 with the same optical scheme (3 DA-L and 2 WR) and they suffer from a great variability in optical quality, but after all they are optics "so much per kilo", you can't expect much Opinion: I have reported in the pros and cons what I think of this great little lens that does not shine for resolution and perfection of the edges, but that winks at those who, with some tricks, need to take the photo home with a lens that does not clutter, does not weigh, is WR, is robust and is equipped with a lens hood as standard. Also, in my opinion, the WR lenses are the most beautiful line (aesthetically speaking) produced by Pentax. Compared to the first series DA (which I also own), the later 18-55 have an improved optical design, which is especially visible at "tele" focal lengths and wide aperture. However, the best results are obtained by diaphragmizing a little, which also mitigates the variability from specimen to specimen. The best performance, as you can expect, is obtained around 35mm, where in my opinion even the blur improves, in addition to the general performance. At the end of the day, it's a lens with which almost everything is done, especially for those who are starting out. The 18-55 doesn't have "extreme" focal lengths and it's not particularly bright so I think it's designed above all to orient the photographer towards new purchases, but this doesn't mean that you forget it at the bottom of the bag: it can always come in handy because it's "easy", light and in the case in question it's also WR. Finally, coupled with the (conscious) use of an external flash can solve many difficult situations.
sent on 27 Dicembre 2021 Pros: Compact, tropicalized, lightweight, value for money, flare resistance Cons: In the 'poor' plastic version it does not have the distance scale, dark Opinion: Superior level kit lens compared to the competition, even if it is made entirely of plastic. Fast and accurate AF but quite noisy. To start photographing is a great lens, the focusing distance of 25 cm allows you to experiment. The tropicalization allows you to shoot in any weather without paturnia. Acceptable sharpness along the entire range of focal lengths, I photographed everything (even starry skies) with great satisfaction. The greatest limitation is given by the low brightness and the loss of sharpness at 55 mm. Some AC in situations of high contrast but nothing dramatic. If it were even just a fixed f 4 it would be a must have for compactness and focal lengths. Rating 8 full and with value for money (the all-plastic version, optically identical to the other costs 100 euros) is absolutely unbeatable.
sent on 03 Marzo 2021 Pros: Construction, tropicalization, metal bayonet, value for money, focal range Cons: ... Opinion: Bought for my daughter at the first photographic experiences, but before putting it in her hand I tested it and evaluated it personally, although not in a maniacal way. The construction quality of this zoom suitable for general use immediately comes to the fore. as soon as you take it in your hand you immediately perceive a certain robustness and general ness of the lens that, has no games or weaknesses in general. The metal bayonet also gives the idea of greater stability to the plug on the camera and longer life. Seals do their duty by protecting it from moisture, even high, dust and various infiltrations once mounted on the machine. Construction and finishes make it really pleasant both to the eye and to the touch.... almost wanted to keep it to me. The zoom ring is well sized, has no strange games and offers pleasant resistance. Maybe a little tight and light in adjusting the focus ring but, considering the wide use of autofocus, it's also fine. The optical yield is very valid at all focal lengths, obviously also considering the price, with a decent resistance to flare. In the class of this type of optics is fine.... if you are looking for fast and ultra-defined optics, you need to go to other types of optics. Overall I consider it as an excellent first lens that, coupled with equally tropicalized machine bodies, will allow you to photograph in any climatic situation... for sure the photographer will be the first to give in to the weather and not the body machine and lens system.
sent on 03 Marzo 2021 Pros: Value for money, tropicalization, compact and light Cons: Nothing given the cost Opinion: It is distinguished by the lightness that allows you to transport it easily, despite this the construction quality is very good: the rings are very sliding and precise. A point in favor for tropicalization that allows you to shoot even in adverse weather conditions (tested during a copious snowfall and despite being wet they have not suffered consequences neither he nor the machine). Good sharpness especially for diaphragm values greater than 5-6 while losing a little on the sides at the extreme focal points. Not too bright but in critical situations you can easily compensate by raising the iso. In my opinion perfect to start with, it combines ease of transport with a multiplicity of uses to which it lends itself (portraiture, landscaping, etc...).
sent on 25 Aprile 2020 Pros: Discreet optical kit, price to use Cons: It has its obvious limitations that must be compared to the price Opinion: I do not go down to the technical specific because you can find all sorts of reviews about it. I say that he gave me shots that I still like a lot years later. I remember all its limitations such as open diaphragms sharpness and plastic construction (which makes it light) tropicalization not too effective in my opinion, especially against dust. To start a great companion, a lens that on the go you can mistreat without remorse thanks to the low price of optics.
sent on 05 Aprile 2019 Pros: Well done, tropicalized ,light, minimum MaF distance of 25 cm Cons: At 55 AF sometimes it's a mischief Opinion: I picked up this 18/55 after almost 10 years (purchased with the K7) and then put it in a drawer to use a Tamron 18/200 as everything do . Out of curiosity I took it back to use it a bit and it stunned me . Compared to Tamron there is no history, with others I do not. Only precaution if you use for close-up images ,portraits etc close a little the diaphragm the sharpness improves a lot (at 18 mm even at 5.6 ... rather raise the iso) A greeting to all Piero

sent on 28 Dicembre 2018 Pros: Build quality, tropicalized, metal bayonet, Quickshift focus Cons: Blender Autofocus Opinion: Honest kit lens that nothing has to envy to the other 18-55 but with some extra features that are appreciated and that make it usable for a long time without you feel the immediate need to switch to more professional lenses. Introduces the design of modern Pentax optics. It's weather sealed, so it resists the interperie. I used it in the snow, in the fog and with water splashes without problems. The focus is through the engine of the machine body, which involves a little ' noise but the speed is definitely acceptable. It has the Quickshift focus that allows immediate switching from autofocus to manual focus by tapping the focus ring. Optically asks to be closed at least one stop to compensate for a slight softness typical of entry-level zoom lenses. The yield to the center is good and at the edges recovers diaphragming. The chromatic aberrations are very contained, almost absent I would say.
sent on 19 Agosto 2018 Pros: Build quality, WR, compact, quick shift Cons: I would say only the variable aperture not very bright (common problem with kit lenses), AF noisy Opinion: "Battle" Kit Zoom that has its strength in being weather sealed and have the quick shift function for the focus. Used in the rain and snow without ever having a problem. It has a good image quality even though as all the kits has a very dark variable aperture. The classic lens to always keep in the bag and to be used in adverse weather conditions.
sent on 02 Dicembre 2017 Pros: Great zoom from kit, build quality, wr Cons: Nobody in my opinion Opinion: I have been able to use it in different situations, obtaining good shots.rnThe general perception of solidity, with metal ring and materials pleasant to the touch.rnExcellent the request of focusing, sliding but not elusive zoom.rnA great value and 'the tropicalization, important for those who take the camera anywhere, regardless of the weather.rnVince in comparison with other brands, always in the category zoom kit 18-55 obviously.rnVale worth buying it in kits, saving several euros compared to the same item sfuso.rn
sent on 22 Agosto 2016 Pros: optics and build quality, weather sealing, metal bayonet Cons: Price on new, af slightly noisy (totally acceptable) Opinion: Standard really good quality lens, light years ahead of the standard zoom Canon Nikon.rnDal and construction point of view, Pentax has used good quality plastics adding tropicalization, making him an all-rounder in all conditions atmosferica.rnDal optical point of view, the lenses are treated against dirt and to facilitate the compensation of chromatic aberrations; offer good quality images even if to get the most out of this lens should be used more than 5.6.rnI defects diaphragms are the high price and the new af slightly noisy but absolutely not fastidioso.rnIn conclusion lens absolutely recommended to buy in kit with the camera, or in used.
sent on 21 Novembre 2015 Pros: Weather sealed, light, compact, resistance to flare Cons: dark, price, low to TA Opinion: Objective, value, if purchased used (traveling between 50 and 80 Euros) or in a kit with the camera. List Price mondo.rnResistenza to flare out very good, weather sealed, optically very good. rnHa only a defect to zoom economic: the need to close the aperture of at least one stop. Very well built, the envy to zoom canikon from hundreds of euro in più.rnIn conclusion: if you find it used or in a kit with the camera you need, buy it will surprise you. If you want to buy a zoom lens with focal these, go to the altro.Come 18-135,16-85,16-45 etc ...
| sent on 27 Settembre 2014 Pros: + Me and a great lens even though it was in the K3 kit I made some good photos Cons: no defect Opinion: is not a limited but that's fine for those who are content and do not have much capital available. x me is great I used a Nikon D80 with a 18-135 but I have returned to my old love I possess is still the Pentax MX and K100 Analogiche.ho The updated my park 3 optical 35mm 55-300 -50-200 the old Macro 100mm 1.4 and are willing to 100mm Macro WR, and of course I find the K3 Favolosa. | sent on 24 Settembre 2013 Pros: Lightweight and compact, very sharp from f5.6 onwards and from 35 to 55. Cons: Under the values ??I mentioned is of reasonable quality. Opinion: Used in the right range produces images of some importance. Despite being one of zoomino kit is always a good zoom. Tropcalizzato, lightweight and versatile. Very sharp at focal lengths from 35 to 55 is at his best after f5.6. Therefore I agree with "is dim ..." but it has its place in the bag. I really like the care that Pentax puts in the design of its objectives, considering that on the hood have a crack Decree (opens a small door) in order to act on the filters without removing it. Not much, but gains points .... |
sent on 18 Marzo 2012 Pros: light, small, cheap, good optical performance, weatherproof Cons: dim, detectable distortion at 18-24mm, defining the edges not exceptional Opinion: As part of the optical "budget", the 18-55 WR stands on a slightly higher level than other proposals is that Pentax other brands. Treatment weatherproof construction visibly cured, and the excellent price / performance ratio (road this lens is also to under 150 €) are the plus points of this lens. Brightness, risolvenza and distortion are about average for this category of products.
sent on 15 Marzo 2012 Pros: lightweight, compact, good image rendering, tropicalized Cons: dim, wide open aperture is not constant Opinion: I bought this lens as a kit with the K7 and I got to use it a couple of years. Now "replaced" by the Pentax SMC DA 16-45 f / 4 ED AL. Replaced, but only in part, on some occasions I use it again. Initially I was not satisfied, the yield did not like it, then I realized that the problem was in K7 (strong backfocus can only be corrected via debug mode). After fixing the K7 I could appreciate the good optical performance of this lens at all focal lengths especially if you close a couple of the aperture stop. In my opinion is worth much more than it costs. The focal range is classic and versatile. Since WR (weather sealed) it can be used safely in all weather conditions without any problems.
