sent on 31 Marzo 2026 Pros: Stabilization, Articulated Monitor, Dynamic Range, High Iso Seal, quality and malleability of the product file, Tropicalization, Simple and intuitive menu, robustness, fantastic grip, price. Cons: Viewfinder can be improved, weight, expensive LMount lenses, Autofocus tracking, energy-intensive. Opinion: Taken on offer with two lenses at an absolutely competitive price. It is worth a lot and absolutely deserves the purchase compared to what it costs. It should preferably be combined with native S series f1.8 lenses (18-24-35-50-85) with which it communicates and works very well. The strengths and weaknesses are those listed, with merits far superior to the defects. It must be a conscious purchase, in the sense that you have to understand exactly what photographic genres you frequent and then adjust your choice. In general, it is an excellent camera for portraits, close up, street, landscapes, still life, minimal, generalist photography, travel reportage, urban photography. The tracking focus limps for birdlife and sports photography, genres that I do not practice at all and therefore did not affect my choice. The single autofocus is efficient and in the continuous one I have not encountered the bumping that others complain about. It churns out soft, malleable Raw files, workable in pp in an excellent way as they are neither rigid nor plastered. It allows for truly remarkable recoveries in the shadows and changes in the range. The menu is child-proof, in the sense that it is simple and intuitive. I set it up in a half afternoon collecting info on the net and without resorting to the manual. In the hand you have a sense of robustness with excellent ergonomics. I found it a bit energy-intensive, the battery drops after intensive use of a morning, nothing that cannot be remedied with a spare battery. It's a bit heavy, like all Panasonics but everything is balanced by the featherweight of the lenses I listed above. Those who buy it as a second body or to enter the world of FF at the price at which it is NUOVA are making a bargain.
sent on 06 Ottobre 2024 Pros: Controls, stabilization, sensor, high ISO Cons: Contrast only autofocus. Embarrassing and annoying in AF C as it moves continuously. Opinion: A machine that makes sense to be taken with the latest sale prices, otherwise the AF, especially in AF-C does not justify the launch price. For the rest it is well built but love has not been triggered after a year of use. I'm not saying it's not usable but with any lens I find AF-C distressing with continuous and frenetic bumping. If you want to use it only in AF-S it makes sense to take it. I would say that it had some flaws as a machine, otherwise why did it have such a low diffusion on the market?
sent on 26 Aprile 2024 Pros: Stabilization, ergonomics, customization, computational functions, high iso hold, shadow recovery. PRICE! Cons: A bit heavier than the competition, I would have preferred a faster burst. Opinion: In my opinion at the price at which it is found it is new, but above all used it is the car to buy! Especially if you want to upgrade from a pentaprism camera or the first mirrorless. Ok, the autofocus is not perfect and if you are a professional you will surely have something to say about it, but for 99% of users it is even too much! I, for example, who come first from a 5d MK2 then from a Gh4, find it absolutely performing. It is often thought that photos can only be taken with top cameras and instead they are all amateur photographers'. The range of optics is not the widest, but little by little it is expanding, and the optics are all very good, even the 20 60 kit is an excellent lens, resolute and with an interesting focal range. I use computational functions like Startrail a lot and I have to say that these functions should be implemented on all modern cameras. One thing I would have liked is more lightness, but I see that ML is moving more and more towards heavier and larger sizes. The battery in my opinion also has a good life, plus the car is recharged via usb-c so in case of emergency a power bank can always come to our aid.
sent on 21 Febbraio 2024 Pros: Stabilized, image quality, dynamic range, colors, swivel LCD, ergonomics, files, video excellent build quality. Cons: don't have it Opinion: purchased new with a pre-Christmas offer at 949,00 EURO !!! Fowa 4 year warranty, buying a full frame at this price new has no rivals, excellent choice finally after so many years I bring home an exceptional camera without breaking the bank, other brands should take an example of how these products are marketed and instead they compete to see who increases the price the most, paying 4000 euros for a Sony is wasteful, The Panasonic S5 does everything and does it very well videos then it is gorgeous, I recommend evaluating this machine before giving money to other brands that I know well, vote 10.
sent on 03 Gennaio 2024 Pros: Dynamic range, ergonomics, image quality, Dual native ISO, tropicalization, stabilization, advanced functions. Cons: Unintuitive AF, burst Opinion: Let me start by saying that I am not a professional, but an amateur photographer. I switched to this camera after using a more modern Canon EOS R10 (apsc) for a year, which certainly had a better autofocus and burst, however useless if you don't practice photographic hunting. Despite its qualities, the plasticky construction, the absence of stabilization and the bad images in low light conditions led me to the purchase of this camera which to date in 2024 I find very valid. For my uses (landscapes, portraits, street, travel and children), in reality, this S5 has no real flaws. Learning to manage the autofocus well this turns out to be good enough for all my uses and, even if not at the levels of the S5ii or other competitors, I have never regretted the purchase. The build quality is excellent, the ergonomics and the position of the numerous customizable buttons immediately give an excellent feeling. The sensor is extraordinary, dual ISO and magnificent containment of digital noise, very performing stabilization. I used it in the rain and in the cold, never any problems. I find the High res image functions at 96 mpx and the live composite very comfortable and useful in many contexts. Lately I've also been discovering its qualities in the video sector, which is as excellent as the photographic one. To date, I consider this machine a best buy.
sent on 01 Ottobre 2023 Pros: File quality, dynamic range, versatility and ergonomics. Cons: AF not always reliable, but nothing dramatic, more limiting the impossibility of deactivating the flash pre-flash. Opinion: I state that I find the camera excellent in everything, both photo and video side, the only important limit is the inability to disable pre-flash flash, this involves the loss of fractions of a second that sometimes make you lose the moment as well as affecting charging times, the only solution I found is to use the flash in manual mode, losing the convenience of TTL mode.
sent on 15 Settembre 2022 Pros: Compactness, manageability, menu not too complicated, excellent display, well stabilized, tropicalized. Cons: However quite heavy, AF not too performing at night even with good light. Opinion: I had it a few months, it was my first FF (6 years of photography almost only street and only with aps-c), I never used the video sector and I am not a professional, so what I write can be refuted by anyone. Files are very malleable with LR. It is easy to handle and looks good in the medium-large hand, but it is actually heavy. I think that for the streeetshooter it is a fairly good FF alternative although there are tendes of more suitable models (almost all aps-c). For those who are also fond of steal and night photography instead is not good even if the sensor is not too dense, because the AF I found that often flickers even with good light.
sent on 22 Agosto 2022 Pros: High quality file also in jpg with beautiful colors . Video quality for an unrivaled FF. Tropicalized machine and comfort of the LCD screen adjustable and above all clearly visible under the sunlight. Lens in kit (20 60) that guarantees shots of the highest level for a lens in kit. I left the Sony world after 6 years (a5100, a6400 and a7III for 4 years) and I don't regret it. Battery of excellent duration Precise autofocus Many types of autofocus (for each type of shot) this is both a merit and a defect Cons: Expensive optics and still little availability of other brands Weighing machine to be a mirrorless. Autofocus not up to Sony but for the type of photos I do it is not a problem . Too many types of autofocus, if I do not know how to study well you risk not getting the most out of the camera. Opinion: I've been using the S5 for 5 months and I'm really happy with the files it can churn out. While with the Sony A7III I was almost always forced to switch from Photoshop for a color adjustment with S5 the file is already publishable after shooting Burst not very high Quality of the beautiful and colorful video file . I just hope that other brands will soon come out with alternative products and at human prices. A 50mm 1.8 should not cost under 400€...
sent on 10 Luglio 2022 Pros: Compactness, lightness, tropicalization, stabilization, features, adjustable LCD, image quality, price Cons: Viewfinder just enough, Burst, AF lower than Canon R5 and Sony A7iv but it is not with these that competes Opinion: I needed a travel kit so as not to carry the Canon R5 and the L RF series boulders with me. Purchased with the excellent "kit lenses" 20-60 and 50 1.8 to have an excellent travel kit, lightweight, tropicalized by the excellent image quality, I was struck by how much it actually is a full frame mirrorless with the best value for money. It holds well in the hand, offers the right amount of rings and controls for quick change of settings, excellent build quality that includes the tropicalization that I consider necessary in a travel kit. Color rendering above expectations as well as the image quality that has nothing to envy to other competitors perhaps more noble. It offers an avalanche of very convenient features such as live composite, an excellent high res mode very useful for heavy crop or huge prints in addition to bracketing, post focus, ability to export frames to 18 mpx from videos etc. The stabilization is really excellent and the autofocus very reliable for my needs and far better in AFC than the Fuji XE4 and XT4 that I had and less reliable however than Sony A7iii and later. The quality of the "cheap" 1.8 Panasonic lenses, as well as the 20-60, is really high compared to the price, excellent color rendering and three-dimensionality, they all have the same filter diameter and the same weight to facilitate those who use gimbals without having to calibrate at each lens change. Plus there's access to the fantastic L Mount world. If I had to choose a first cheap kit or travel kit, I would have no doubt.

sent on 02 Luglio 2022 Pros: excellent files and colors, body quality and tropicalization, adjustable and resealable lcd Cons: unworthy viewfinder, second SD slot not like the first, some control placed in a really uncomfortable position Opinion: I bought the S5 after selling the entire Nikon FX kit I owned. I wanted something lighter, less bulky and that would also guarantee great footage with autofocus. I must say that I got what I was looking for. I have not yet had the opportunity to try it with really worthy optics so I can not make great comparisons with my "old" D750. The biggest effort coming from a Nikon FX was getting used to the viewfinder... Ergonomics don't convince me much, but maybe I have to get used to it a little more. I'm eager to test it with the latest sigma optics, for now I noticed some really interesting features and the baked files are very workable. I do not regret the passage.
sent on 24 Dicembre 2021 Pros: Lightweight, good grip, fast ignition, excellent image quality in photos, video quality at the levels of cinema cameras. Cons: For the price, none... maybe some small defects of ergonomics and controls in the room. Opinion: I have been using it for practically a year for work, both for videos and photos, and I find it excellent! Obviously the S1 is much better than the S5, in fact I took the S5 as a B-cam for the S1. In this link you can find a video review in English, where I also explain how to activate the internal 5.1k video recording and how to improve battery life. https://youtu.be/uyv8Cj6U0sI
sent on 04 Dicembre 2021 Pros: Exceptional stabilization, gorgeous sensor, resistance to splashing water, value for money. Cons: For now nothing. Opinion: I have been using it for a month, various shots and I must say that it is very balanced, good level auto ficus you can use it for any area, it does not have the maximum current performance but calculated that it costs new 1690 euros, and I challenge anyone at that price to find better, the image quality for me is equal to the current competition of 24 mpx, also the iso seal, a very valid camera even in the video environment, I combined it with sigma optics, I think that those like me who want a camera not to spend too much is the best choice, it offers everything but with lower performance but offers everything, stabilization, shooting at 96 mpx, 6k photo, post focus, all simply in the car, the file is very natural is very modifiable, remarkable recovery of low light and high light, in short, I am very happy with the purchase, many merits.
sent on 06 Novembre 2021 Pros: Body, file quality, neutral colors, excellent video section, tropicalization. Cons: Nobody Opinion: Taken a few days ago as the second video body compared to the Lumix S1h, I must say that the S5 immediately made a great impression on me. The files are rich in detail, the ergonomics are excellent and I also find it more responsive than its older sister. Great AF with prime lenses, 85mm, 50mm f/1.8.At the current price it is the best choice you can make. Highly recommended
sent on 24 Ottobre 2021 Pros: All Cons: Nothing Opinion: I am a Nikonist, but I have used, and use, all the systems. This machine amazed me because, without pulling too much as other brands do, it offers a very high technology, partly conveyed by the too underestimated Micro4/3 system. Its color rendering, especially at high iso, is among the best I have ever encountered, the ergonomics are excellent, and as a nikonist I am quite demanding, and the camera fits like a glove, and then the stabilization at the top, the adjustable display, the high-resolution shots, a boon for landscapers, the dual iso, the exceptional video qualities that make it in fact the best hybrid on the market for me. And the price, which now makes the purchase of an aps rather strange, certainly not very convenient. And again the L mount mount that places it in a pole of absolute level, with Leica and Sigma, and allows it to use the new Sigma DG DN C optics, such as the 24, 35 and 90, small metal jewels of exceptional quality. I had the opportunity to compare the 35 with a Leica for more than four thousand euros mounted on an SL2 and I did not notice appreciable differences. I read about criticisms of the viewfinder, which will not be stellar but nothing that does not prevent you from seeing the masterpieces, and the double speed of the cards, completely irrelevant in practice for me. If it gives me so much, when the S2 arrives, the real professional after the dress rehearsal of the S1 and derivatives, there will be fun.
sent on 23 Ottobre 2021 Pros: lightness, grip, dimensions, adjustable LCD (and resealable if necessary) Cons: noisy, long shutter button stroke, dual slots with different speeds Opinion: As an S1 owner, to rationalize the equipment I gave back the Fuji kit I had and I took an s5 precisely for the measurements and weight. As soon as you open and taken from the package you can clearly perceive that the S5 is a good car but that nothing has to do with the older sisters in terms of perception of quality of materials, just open the door of the Sd accommodation or the battery compartment that you realize that the S1 is a whole other world, anyway the sensor does its duty very well, Raw excellent, made high iso more than good and perhaps even better than the S1, Autofocus the line with that of the S1 I do not notice any increase in speed at least with the optics in my possession, I do not like the sound of the shutter, a very annoying tlac similar to that of the glorious D700, it has excellent ergonomics, falls well in the hand and the buttons are all easily accessible, I do not like the position of the rec video on the shell, that of the S1 is very comfortable next to the eyepiece. Ultimately it is a great car that with the discounts of these days at 1690 is attractive while at full price, on 1990, if you do not have problems with the weights and dimensions the S1 with your eyes closed. Rating 8.5
sent on 08 Aprile 2021 Pros: stabilization, quality and raw workable, menu', evf, adjustable LCD, video quality. Cons: I would have preferred double slots with the same speed... Opinion: I've had quite a few machines, I like to change and so I can say I've tried almost every mirrorless of any brand. My last were a z6, a canon r6, s1, xt4. Before taking the s1 I had purchased the s5, but, wanting to try the top of the s1 range, I sold the s5 and bought the s1, waiting for the adjustment to arrive that would take it to the same level of autofocus as the s5. The day of the highly anticipated update has arrived and this has not happened, the s1 has improved a little, but it is not at the same level af as the s5. therefore... I took back the s5... I love this car, so much so that I bought it back... has an extreme raw work. Extreme shadows can be recovered, unthinkable with other brands... In the z6, for example if you pushed a little on the recovery of shadows, the damn banding popped up... The r6 didn't get to these results, also because the sensor works better on the recovery of high lights... Not even with the s1 could I recover the shadows like this. Often it is often felt that it is not necessary to have all these possibilitys, just take a well-exposed photo... but... I don't think so... Personally I want to have the opportunity in front of a scene with a wide dynamic range of subexpose so as not to burn the lights and recover later in post. You don't always have a flash at hand and you don't always want to use it, so, this is a possibility I don't want to give up. The autofocus for me is exceptional: I often hear bad talk about the autofocus of panasonics. Probably on the micro 43 there was a fund of truth, now for me (especially on the s5) the af is the best I have ever tried. Obviously I talk about my needs and my way of photographing: it is precise (more than machines with phase detection), it is a rocket in single focus (there are machines that have a scary AFC and a single to throw in the toilet, like the a7iiii) and it gives me a feeling of safety that makes me feel comfortable. When I focus (unless I make mistakes) I know, with certainty, that the photo is in focus ... I like colors a lot, they have a very leic character (and I personally love that color paste). On the video side I don't want to talk about it... in its price range there are no machines that approach us: 4:2:2 and 10 internal bits. I I'm excited about this machine (I think you get it). If I have to find an aspect that I would change it is the second slot not uhs ii.

sent on 25 Novembre 2020 Pros: stabilization, ergonomics, video side really offers so much Cons: small and poor quality viewfinder/evf, burst, not very reliable af c, unseparated photo/video settings, micro hdmi Opinion: Great for video, definitely the best of the average difascia machines, a little less good for photography. Apart from the flurry, only 6fps, and AFC lagging behind the competition, to the poor quality of the viewfinder unfortunately I could not get used to it. If with the Z6 my eyes never get tired, with the S5 but also with the Sony A7iii after half an hour they start to tear. The perfect hybrid under 2000 does not yet exist.
