Pros: Portability & features

Cons: None so far

Opinion: Have been working with this gem for some months now. Been working with MFT since 2013 besides my Nikon gear and have seen a steady but impressive development of this formula. For me the OM-1 (and its lenses) is all about portability while being able to produce high quality output that can compete with camera's with a larger sensor. In my opinion OM-Systems succeeded to produce a camera that does just that. There is so much to tell about this camera. To sum this review up: Fast AF, doing great on high ISO, customization and creating presets works well. Button layout. Battery life. I can go on and on.

Pros: Tropicalization, lightness, compactness, quality of files, immense and quality optics

Cons: I can't find a cons of this machine at the moment

Opinion: Fantastic machine in all respects, as always Olympus or OM system is able to add exclusive innovation to all its new products, starting from the computational functions and the new stacked sensor, lightness compactness and the possibility of mounting the fantastic lenses of Olympus Pro series, among the best lenses of all the systems I have ever tried if not the best! Lightness, compactness, sharpness performance and tropicalization of both the body and the lenses make it possible to use the system itself in conditions where the others would struggle, having tried almost all the systems except Hasselblad and Leica, at the moment I can say that Olympus with all the pros and cons is the best compromise, even the high iso speech that was the only drawback of the micro four thirds with this new sensor has improved a lot in levels by aps-c Fuji.

Pros: Market-leading Value for Money/Weight&Size ratio; Exceptional construction; Very efficient and certified tropicalization; Perfect ergonomics; Battery life; Smart computational functions that expand its versatility and differentiate it from the competition; Dual SD slots; EVFs still among the best on the market today; Flawless stabilization every time

Cons: Battery Grip with grip not at the same level as that of the machine body; Castrated buffer that limits new potential through firmware update; Keeping rate in AF-C good but not great; Non-tiltable screen

Opinion: I've been using this camera for almost 2 years and I think I know it a bit by now to write down a few lines.. As written, I still find the OM-1 a noteworthy camera today for what it offers overall. To be clear, it's not the best camera the market offers, nor has it ever been, but for the price it is at and what it offers, I think it is a very underrated and underrated camera. For less than 2K (I'm talking again, used we are not far from half in excellent condition), you take home an impeccably built magnesium body, with perfect ergonomics, a true and IP-certified weather seal, a battery that for many can also be enough for a daily photography session (I'm not a Pro, I want to say it, but with a charge less than two outputs I have never done), double SD slot (excellent, because on the one hand it guarantees an immediate backup, on the other it keeps the overall costs of the system low by spending the right amount for memories without making who knows what compromises on performance since we are talking about the UHS-II type), computational functions that make the camera even more versatile, an above-average EVF with a resolution of 5.76M, and a stabilization at the top of the contemporary photographic panorama that makes it possible to use it freehand even with the long telephoto and superzoom that the M4/3 offers. Not a little. On the other hand, there are some aspects that it is good to be aware of when buying, among them I would like to point out the BG which if on the one hand is certainly well built and shaped (once assembled you immediately notice how it was developed by OM System engineers in symbiosis with the machine, and not as a fake thing stuck there almost by mistake), on the other hand, it has a more abundant grip than the counterpart of the camera body, which for those like me who do not have huge hands perhaps tires a little in the long run (but you live with it, it is not a huge problem). More significant is instead the calibrated buffer (probably to justify that something extra that was needed to make the market after the mark II, I add), which strongly limits the expansion via firmware of new features and above all the improvement of existing but not irresistible functions. I'm talking about the graduated filters or the improvement of the keeping rate in AF-C, both introduced last year with the mark II. Mind you, you still photograph as you are now, but it certainly leaves a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth to think that where other brands (Nikon above all) firmware after firmware constantly evolve their flagships, OM System for a handful of memory less does not allow you to take full advantage of the rest of a hardware that on balance is the same as the mark II. Last among the cons I would like to mention the screen, or rather its articulation system: let's be honest, among those who buy the OM-1, how many do it to use it in the video field, perhaps even to record clips to be uploaded to YouTube? I think 0.01% of buyers, though. So why not insist on the solution already seen at Olympus, for example on the OM-D E-M10II, tiltable in axis with the lens, much more functional for a photographic practice? Again, not a cons of those that discriminate between buying and not buying the camera, but certainly it would have been better to have it in the list of pros.

Pros: waterproofing and dust protection, for the use I make of it, retractable rear display protected from bumps and scratches, the best viewfinder I have ever used, so much so that I used it practically without a display, the price, the availability of high quality optics, a very complete menu also for the possibilities offered in digital processing

Cons: with Panasonic Leica lenses a certain delay, especially for landscape or low light photographs, in focusing, an immense vastness of possible operations that I will never learn in the course of my life, the position of the power button....

Opinion: I wondered if it would be useful to review a camera that is now out of production and replaced by a newer model which, it is said, has improved some flaws. I think of those who, like me, buy second-hand equipment for work. I take photographs of buildings for which I have to carry out renovation or restoration projects, for appraisals, for site documentation, then with dust from demolitions, excavations and up and down scaffolding. I bought, several years ago, a Canon DSLR, after years of Nikon with film, to have an easily manageable digital archive. Then I switched to Fujifilm mirrorless, in order to have a pair of Zeiss lenses, wide-angle and normal, and, later, always to stay at Zeiss at Sony FF. While the optics were absolutely satisfactory, the Sony body, an a7II, was beginning to show some signs of age. I would have liked to stay at Sony but the costs of the upgrade I wanted to get were really unaffordable for me, unless I went for bodies with over 100 thousand shots. Then some friends told me about the micro 4/3 system. I looked around and, since my instinct always makes me start from lenses, I found three Panasonic Leica lenses on occasion. My choice therefore went to OM-1 which I found at a real devaluation price, with what for me represented an indispensable element, the quality of the 1600 x 1200 px viewfinder, the weight and the protection from external agents. I didn't find anything satisfactory in Panasonic that had all the features found in OM-1, at least in micro 4/3. I am, now a few months later, really satisfied with the change of system, also for the quality of the optics. It may be natural to wonder why it does not use native lenses, i.e. OM System. Well, I tried with a pro series lens of equal value to the Panasonic Leica I use and there is really no comparison, neither in the construction of the lens (wobbly barrel) nor in the quality of the images, always talking about optics under 1000 euros. The menu is exaggeratedly vast but customizable. For those who use them, the main computational functions are present (for now I have only used the simulation of the ND filter for long exposures). Present for jpg shots, the colored filters for black and white. What can I say, I'm sorry for those who bought it new, given the devaluation, but if you find one little used don't miss it. PS: the power button, positioned next to the upper ring on the left, different from all the devices I have used previously that had it in correspondence with the shutter button, is an infinite pain in the ass. Then you get used to it....

Pros: TOP ergonomics and customization, Always perfect white balance and exposure, Monstrous and small Zuiko lenses at a negligible cost compared to the competition, Beautiful color rendering and customization possibilities, Burst. Powerful computational functions with amazing results

Cons: Dynamic range not at the level of the best APS-C, Difficult to get a blur even with the F2.8 zooms because of the MFT sensor

Opinion: I sold the Om-1 to switch to Sony A6700, much praised as the best APS-C out there but between the two in my opinion the Om-1 comes out the winner, even in the noise at high ISO it comes out on top, with a noise that is always soft and pleasant. The only thing where the 6700 is superior is tracking. The Om-1's single-point autofocus, on the other hand, locks on more than the Sony. Overall, shooting with the Om-1 associated with the slow Zuiko 12-40 2.8 or the super-bright fixed is a rewarding experience. It produces beautiful images very easily. Since I got the Sony I've started to worry about white balance again, which with the OM-1 is always perfect by default.

Pros: Lightweight, the best ergonomics I've ever had, lots of cool features.

Cons: Image quality, not exactly high iso performance, high cost in relation to image quality.

Opinion: Beautiful camera, very comfortable but with some significant flaws. At iso 3200/6400 it is already over the limit for me, too much too much digital noise that makes you lose detail and makes it difficult to clean even with the best software. I owned the OM1 and the Z6II, paid the same but in the evening the Nikon is clearly superior in terms of image. Unfortunately it is comfortable but with the FF in terms of image quality there is nothing to do, it is superior and by a lot. Disappointed not to be able to go beyond 3200iso I resold it, it costs too much for the limitations it gives.

Pros: Lightweight, tropicalized, rich in functions

Cons: Non-intuitive autofocus operation. Finding the best setting is a challenge

Opinion: Bought 2 years ago, after having had everything. It's not a machine for all uses, I prefer to photograph events: concerts, cabaret, theater. In such contexts the depth of field is welcome and even in low light I work well. It is clear that the lenses must be bright, the 2.8 pro or even better the fixed 1.8 of the house (17 and 45). The combination with the Leica 25 1.4 is also excellent. The white balance is splendid even in cars with difficult lights. The exposure has to be accurate, I don't go beyond ISO 3,200 and jpgs are perfectly usable. In desperate cases from RAW a couple of stops I recover them without problems. Great battery life, viewfinder vision. I've also tried the birdlife, but in reality the only one I'm really interested in is the female sparrow. Unfortunately, it has devalued a lot with the release of the Mk II, not least because of the feeling that OM Systems' support of this is not up to par with a Pro camera. Let's not forget that it's the last one with the Olympus logo, time will be gentlemanly.

Pros: Tropicalized system. Very high-performance quality lenses. Excellent portability. Files with good dynamic range. I can easily print 200 cm x 120 cm For me it is a really complete and reliable system

Cons: It suffers from noise above 6400 iso buffer a bit slow when I use pro capture, the moving focus lock system sometimes comes off but it is a problem that is relatively important for the photos I normally take

Opinion: It's a great system, at the moment I own 9 Pro lenses, an OM1 and a 1X, I have two dedicated flashes, GODOX V1 The new 2X 90 mm macro lens is something spectacular, I really do everything without problems and I think with excellent results since at the moment I have photos that reach 6000 likes (Venetian New Year's Eve fireworks). The only big limitation is me who has not yet learned to exploit its potential well!

Pros: The advantage of being able to have a lot of depth of field while shooting with fast times, excellent stabilization, well-built camera body

Cons: Good viewfinder but in my opinion not as good as that of the XH2S (of which, however, unlike the latter, it does not have the typical factory defect of fuji of inconstant af with wide-angle lenses and closed apertures)

Opinion: Driven by the bitter disappointment with the fujifilm brand (I refer to my review of the xh2s and to a brief search on the web where many people complain about the serious defects on the af s) and by the forum of the great Andrea Bernesco, I bought the micro 4 3. I don't regret anything, neither the 45 ff and passes mpx nor apsc, nothing. This is indeed an "intelligent system". With the same exposure triad, I have a greater depth of field that allows me to better tell the story of my small journeys. Let me start by saying that I am not a lover of blur, I have owned fast lenses but either because of the weight or because in the end I always tended to close, I realized at my expense that they were not for me. Here I finally have a light camera body, smaller lenses, the buttons are all in the right place and the ergonomics are also excellent. It's just a shame that the viewfinder, although good, is not at the levels of other top of the range but that's okay come on. Another thing that I like less is that in af s if I move the af box it doesn't use all the points but it makes a bit big jumps, anyway you get used to it. The jpeg colors seem beautiful to me, different from fujifilm films but still appreciable. A negative note really is the shoulder strap supplied, it saws off the neck like crazy, as soon as I feel like it I will certainly change it .. Personally, I did not find it difficult to use the rear wheel, which many say is too recessed.

Pros: Solidity, lightness and dimensions even with bg, pro capture with non-jpeg raw files like the other top of the range, price.

Cons: High ISO sealing, so-so tracking

Opinion: Necessary premise: I am absolutely convinced that there is no perfect camera or a perfect lens in the world but that there are different combinations that turn out to be perfect in different situations and OM1 combined with a pro series lens falls into these cases. If you know that the high ISO performance in low light is rather dismal and you know that the depth of field with the m 4/3 system is what it is, adjust accordingly. That said, OM1 remains my first choice (I own Z8) in wildlife photography for the very simple fact that it sizes, lightness, pro capture that makes raw files (The Z8, Jpeg), stabilization and color rendition, etc.. they allow "that AGILITY" and those results that other systems, perhaps more emblazoned, perhaps more fashionable, etc.. Due to their size and weight, they limit the work to be done, making the result more difficult to achieve. OM1-BG-mc20-40/150 2.8 (FF 160-600 5.6) weighs 2160 gr and has a total length of 30 cm. You carry it around all day and you could say absurdly that you put it in your pocket when you're done. My basic settings are to lock the iso limit to 800 and shoot at custom white balance aperture priority. When shooting raw, the photo mode is of little use, but it's basically natural. In post I clean with dxo and then finish in photoshop. I don't bother with the m 4/3 system as others do because I'm not interested in analyzing the details or all those aspects that in the end are completely irrelevant and that only serve to cheer for one or the other, so I just say that if you are aware of what you have in your hand and you know it well, you bring home the results. Greetings to all

Pros: High ISO tightness: yes, I used it up to 40,000 iso. If you want to see the file, I can send it to you. The details remain, with the artificial intelligence of Camera RAW for noise reduction, we break down many barriers but the merit also goes to the file of the machine because it manages to preserve colors and details excellently. 12,800, 16,000, 20,000 and 40,000 ISO with bad light, indeed, I can say even in the absence of light and the little that there was, in my working condition, were colored LEDs .. I didn't miss the FF. WARNING: I am not making comparisons. But I'm saying I thought worse and my thinking was all the wrong points of view. I worked in the same event with both Om and Sony a7iii and I noticed the difference in 3 hours of sporting event, only in some rare cases and only one stop difference. The camera is excellent and the speech lightness, portability, excellent lenses and stratospheric quality, tropicalization ... they do not make me miss the only stop I mentioned above of difference in favor of the FF that sometimes can come out. Ergonomics.. As a whole an excellent machine with which you can do everything: from wedding to sport to fauna and landscapes. If you know how to use it, if you know how to use the m4/3 this machine can be the point of arrival.

Cons: The real cons are: 1) viewfinder when the light is bad (Otherwise it is a great viewfinder). It goes jerky and loses so much quality. Even here, once you know about this limit, you accept it and live with it and try to improve yourself as a photographer (problems that I also found with the two Sony mentioned below) 2) in the video field: I did not succeed, so if someone maybe solved, I could re-evaluate this point 2. That is the backup!! Obscene! For videos I did not find any possibility to save the files simultaneously in the two tabs and not even to use the second card when the first is full!! This, those who review the machines should say! Because it is a point that you get there only when you actually run out of card and we could find ourselves really in difficulty. So, in the video field ok stabilization, excellent file that comes out ... Excellent menus... But memory management is WORTHWHILE. Absolutely rejected (I speak video department). For a professional, or at least for me, for my way of operating .. It is unthinkable not to be able to make video backups. Point 3: the rings in which I manage times and apertures... Too recessed, so a bit uncomfortable. When I pick up the X, for example, a whole other world of comfort. Step 4: The joistick. Good but there is better.

Opinion: The AF is not comparable to the FF super flagships but not so much below. More than AF... I correct myself, the tracking is more nervous and dancer. The af as reactivity I can easily place it on a par with the FF flagships (I come from Sony A9ii, Sony A7r5). I waited months to be able to say this and those who say otherwise make me wonder "how did you test the car? Have you really tried it?" And... If we are not yet objective, then I wonder about the quality of the preparation of the individual himself. The car unlike competing flagships, does not forgive you if you make a mistake. While with the others you can afford to make mistakes because there is so much the machine that remedies .. With her you can't. You have to know how to photograph. One stop or two of underexposure, sometimes even three, and one stop of overexposure you can afford. More is a risk. But if you really learn to use it, it doesn't give you any problems whatsoever. On the contrary, it pushes you to improve yourself as a photographer and once you improve, it does not leave you behind. So for me it's a point of quality. Like any product there are advantages and disadvantages. As well as sensors: M4/3, FF, super FF and so on... The blanket is always the usual short blanket. It is up to the professional to identify what interests him and his profession or passion. There is no best or worst, but the best for the individual himself. All the rest is bar chatter that leads to nothing but not improving ourselves. The camera is excellent when combined with pro optics. To really high quality optics. Then you will not miss anything. If you mount enough optics... You will have enough results. Here's how I think about it. Who buys this machine, can not have kit lenses. With lenses 1.2, 1.4, 1.7, 2.0... 2.8... and also with the F4... We can work very, very well. I recommend the Zuiko as a first choice but also the panaleica (the top) are exceptional. That said, I have reduced weights and backpacks a lot. I am a photographer who lives and works in photography from events, shootings and weddings to work around the world for author projects related to flora and fauna. I need the machine to move all round. I need portability. And don't say that the machine is as big as the other FFs. Because it means that you have not understood anything at all. The machine has the volume it needs to have. It's the lenses that really make the difference. And for those who travel the world and need hand luggage and do not have problems with weight and volumes .. This is a great alternative.

Pros: Lightweight, relatively compact, robust, tropicalized, ergonomic with stacked sensor and many useful functions, easy to use

Cons: Noise at high iso, but with the right lenses and a good post-production everything adjusts

Opinion: I come from Canon FF and even before that from Sony mirrorless FF, but the transition to the M4/3 system was not at all traumatic. The machine is excellent from all points of view, even outperforming compared to my needs, which are also quite uneven. I appreciate its functions, size, weight and the feeling of solidity and cleanliness that it transmits. Excellent autofocus, which rarely makes mistakes or sticks. Great high-resolution shooting even handheld, but all the other opportunities (and there are so many, not least the possibility of shooting sumptuous bursts up to 120fps!) make it a real treasure for those who love photography. I appreciate its ductility, its relative ease of use and, of course, the fantastic shots it allows you to make, combined with the excellent and light M.Zuiko Pro lenses, which did not disappoint my expectations in the least.

Pros: The stacked sensor raises the level of performance, computational functions and AI do the rest. Compact, lightweight, ergonomically almost perfect. Weather-proof.

Cons: Noise above 10000ISO, but still better than the other M4/3 I own.

Opinion: I've owned it for about 2 months, so I haven't tried it thoroughly yet. However, I can say that, for photography, it is a significant step forward compared to my other cameras of the same format. Above all, for birdlife and wildlife photos in general, AI AF co is nothing short of mind-blowing. Even shooting at very high speed is. I haven't had a chance to try other computational features like high-resolution shooting, etc. However, it seemed important to me to share these assessments of mine.

avatarjunior
sent on 15 Gennaio 2023

Pros: Operating speed, autofocus, ergonomics, tropicalization, computational functions, stacked sensor

Cons: High iso noise (but this is known and still solvable at the time of shooting and post production)

Opinion: The OM-1 is a really great camera. I was awakened by the pleasure of shooting... I come from Sony (6 years), and I removed all the kit including the A7IV to build me a micro 4/3 kit. No, I'm not crazy, indeed I'm very happy and satisfied with the choice I made because after a long time and many brands (I tried them all except Pentax), I'm savoring again the pure pleasure of taking photographs. The merits have already been written in previous reviews and I confirm them all great ... I just add that shooting at 50mpx handheld only when needed is very cool!!! Another advantage that I found is the dynamic range on the highlights, which stands at about 3/3.5 effective stops against the actual 2/2.5 stops of all other full frame and apsc cameras. The cons I would summarize them with noise at high iso... But if you understand how the M4/3 system works and shoot with a correct exposure, the problem is also solved because in post with proprietary software exceptional results are achieved.

Pros: Compact professional camera on par with the top of the range full frame - Excellent value for money - New m4/3 sensor the first in the world with "stacked" technology - Improved AF system with innovative features for subject recognition - Burst shooting up to 120fps - Improved computational functions such as the High Res Shot handheld - New EVF and redesigned menu more attentive to the needs of the professional - New battery longer than previous models - Improved customization of buttons and functions - Processing of the JPEG file in the machine of the highest quality;

Cons: Firmware (v.1.2) very good but still to be perfected - Uses only SD cards - Lack of integrated GPS - Image buffer just enough for burst shots - Lack of Ethernet network connector;

Pros: Compact and quality lenses. Ergonomics. Total weight. Various bracketing modes. Excellent battery. Impressive stabilizer. True tropicalization.

Cons: Some incomprehensible behaviors (FW 1.2). Some computational brain functions. Malleable raw file but not of great quality. Uncertain AF in tracking.

Opinion: I usually use a Sony A9II with Sigma Art lenses. I was looking for a lighter and more compact solution, but of quality, to always carry with me. When I saw the OM-1 test, I was teased by the promise of focus stacking and freehand ND filters. In addition to the compactness of the lenses and the overall weight, I would also leave the tripod at home. I took body and lenses 8-25 and 40-150 both F4 PRO. I've been using it for a few days and I have a somewhat fluctuating impression of it. The problems of reset settings to the lens change and others that I had I think are related to firmware 1.2 (in fact I read that many others have found bizarre). What remains unexciting for me (for me and for my habits, of course) are the difficulty of understanding the focus stacking in the car (frames and steps I tested them in every way) and a file that is more distant than I hoped from that of my main set (obviously I knew of a result not the same but I hoped better in some situations). What I appreciate is that with a handbag I carry body and lenses (from 16 to 300mm corresponding FF), that I have a very good ergomically good camera, a very nice and uninterrupted viewfinder (the machine has the sensor stacked like the A9II) and still a general result more than acceptable in the images. Finally, I would not like to leave out a mention of the greater depth of field with the same aperture (compared to FF). For me, who tend to compose and make many environments and landscapes, it is an undeniable advantage. Update for firmware release 1.3. Continuous focus has now improved. I like the car more and more.

Pros: Autofocus, sensor, burst, stabilization, ergonomics, design, robustness/tropicalization

Cons: It is no longer Olympus, but at least it maintains (perhaps for the last time?) the historic brand

Opinion: I heard from someone, who evidently did not use it, that it is only an up-grade of the previous Em-1... Nothing could be further from the truth! That is a whole other story. Leaving aside the autofocus, finally at the high levels of certain competitors, the sensor gives files that do not center anything with the previous ones: more beautiful and workable, held at high iso not even to compare with those of before, excellent interaction with the native software. Moreover, in addition to being aesthetically beautiful and to grip for its excellent ergonomics, it is also very robust and tropicalized at the highest levels and this makes it also suitable for intense use by professional photographers both sports and nature. In addition, the endless possibilities that this camera offers make it ideal not only for photo hunting or sports photography, but also for macro (it has an excellent focus stacking), for landscape (it has the high-res option at 50mp or even 80mp) and for any other use that requires speed and performance, all with excellent on-camera stabilization. Ultimately I am very satisfied with the purchase (even if it was made to wait a bit too much ...) and the beautiful optics that you can stick, and says one who in the past has used FF from Nikon and Sony and the best APS-C from Nikon and Fujifilm.

Pros: Small, lightweight, resistant to everything and better than other blazons, improved autofocus, battery life, ergonomics.

Cons: It's no longer Olympus

Opinion: I start from the fact that I have an M43 and I know I have it, I know strengths and weaknesses, I make absolutely no comparison with the FF, it makes absolutely no sense and those who constantly insist on doing it, "raga fatevene a reason is another system!!!" Surely the compactness, which then characterizes all the rest optics in the first place, to achieve these measures the other brands have thrown themselves on diaphragms 6.7, 8, and even 11 ... The machine holds well in the hand, compared to the previous ones obviously I have to redo the position on the keys but little thing you get used to immediately. For my work I find it phenomenal, the autofocus for me was also fine that of the M3 or X, the latter however has improved, for noise lovers the Raw works excellently with DxO PhotoLab, leaves literally shocked, nothing to do with any Adobe CC or LR package, and even better than C1 ... For the rest, I promoted the system five years ago and I am fully satisfied with it.

Pros: All

Cons: On video record only on one slot

Opinion: After 5 months of continuous use in weddings (I have already taken at least 60 thousand shots) I can say that I have finally found my room. Fast autofocus, especially in backlight with the flash or in the dark, something that often happened to me with Sony a7iii and Nikon z6 II of not being able to catch fire on these two occasions. I bought two, I usually mount a 17 1.2 and a 45 1.2. I found only one defect, often doing in our studio also video, the recording of the movie takes place only on one card and not on two, which is very serious for a professional machine. On photos everything ok, record on both tabs, do you know by chance if an update will come out for this?

Pros: Autofocus, OLED viewfinder, battery, higher ISO more manageable, scary burst, stabilization.

Cons: Good key position but not as good as those of the EM1X.

Opinion: I have always used Olympus in every photographic situation: still life, portraits, landscapes, normal photos. However for nature photography (wildlife) I have always preferred to use the Canon 1DX and the 500mm F4 IS USM L II. The autofocus, ISO seal and burst speeds of olympus in recent years have never been at the level of the competition. With the EM1X we have come a little closer but still not enough. With the OM-1 I was convinced to discontinue the Canon kit (which I already often left at home in favor of the EM1X with the Zuiko 300 F4). The autofocus is finally reliable, precise, hooks up immediately and well. The 50FPS burst is scary and combined with the ability to use functions like ProCapture, LiveND etc make the machine even more interesting and unique. It's what I wanted, a small, reliable machine, suitable for everything and that allows me to shoot with a light and space-saving complete kit. The compromises that are paid? The ISO and Gamma seal compared to the competition. Even at this point, however, while not making any huge leap compared to the EM1X, the files are easier to work even with a lot of noise (same noise but the fine detail and colors are eaten much less). Han slightly changed the position of some keys compared to the EM1X and perhaps out of habit I did not find myself as well as on the previous machine.

Pros: It does everything the EM1 mark III did but it does it incredibly better!

Cons: It tends to heat like a small oven. Every now and then it freezes and you need to remove the battery.

Opinion: And nothing OM System took an EM1 mark III, added a stacked sensor, an AF module and a viewfinder finally in step with the top ML and improved everything that was already incredible on the Oly. We are talking about functions such as HI RES shooting, even more performing and fast, pro capture and focus stacking, LIVE ND 64, live composite function also freehand, burst from UZI etc etc. Special mention to the menu , finally better organized and intuitive. The cons, once aware that no is not a full frame and the iso sensitivity is limited by physics, are in my opinion related to defects of youth that I hope will soon be corrected with subsequent updates. For me it's 10/10

Pros: AFC

Cons: Dial keys

Opinion: Hello everyone, review after 2 weeks of use. Fast and direct ... AFC exam passed nothing to do with previous versions also holds fast-moving subjects. Ergonomics the keys of the MIII seemed to me better arranged I will get used to it. ISO seal nothing that respects MIII but if you use with the software Olympus magic you have an increase. Software menu as first only different arrangement. OFV very well. Pro Capture from fear. Great job thanks OM Promoted.

Pros: Autofocus, Battery, Viewfinder, high workability at high iso.

Cons: Jpeg still not up to FF after 3200 iso.

Opinion: I state that I am the owner of double system both FF (Nikon d4s + 750) and 4/3. I had ALL om-Ds and now I've switched to OM1. I use the 4/3 because of the weight in my camper trips where I consider the car an ideal companion for landscaping and street. But I am also a sports photographer and when I travel, where the situation allows, I prefer it to the FF and the heavy 400 2.8 + D4s. I am perfectly aware of the limitations but also of the advantages of this system. The OM1 "finally" aimed to break down the gap towards the full format thanks to the new stacked sensor and there is... "Almost" successful. Up to 3200 the difference is really minimal if we talk about JPEG, if we refer instead to raw wings, then there is to discuss for hours, because this machine can "play" with the much more expensive flagships winning on the weight and also on the autofocus with many of these. I'm sorry that they did not use the AI technology of the proprietary program directly in the car but to get a jpeg without grain it needs to process the raw file from a computer (compatible and not all are) which makes it impossible or very limiting the use of sports at high iso (amateur sports and not well lit arenas). If you work with large amounts of files such as in sports, know that this machine will make things easy for you up to 3200 iso, which on a 4/3 can very well be compared to a 5000 iso of an FF because of the PDC. In fact, I remind you that with a 4/3 you can safely shoot at maximum aperture without too many "problems" and without fear of the deformations of the optics. The quality is much closer to that of a full format but still not the same thing, at least if you compare it to FF like Nikon d4s or 750 (with which I compared it) obviously I repeat I speak of JPEG. The viewfinder is much improved but only during the day, in the absence of light in fact I spread a pitiful veil. The autofocus is scary and the sharpness and quality of the photo is even better than the Em1 MK3 especially on the shadows made big steps forward. Still talking about Autofocus finally hooks well even in the dark. Removed also that annoying saturation that the old systems possessed us knows well. On the raw there is yes and no half stop of difference but the usability of the files is phenomenal if combined with the use of the OM Workspace program even at high iso and for high iso means 8000-10000. The battery is much improved, charging is very fast and the autonomy has a 30-40% more. The second battery promised in the pre-order has not yet arrived I had to buy it separately together with the charger that is sold separately for another 129 euros ... That also does not seem to me to be the right policy. On the "series" optics or 35-50-85 those 1.2 to be clear, competes quietly with FF where it detaches something in sharpness and on some bodies even on the autofocus wins hands down. Only Sony, Nikon and Canon with the recent flagship models can boast such a thing. Personally I also tried z6-2 and the autofocus for example is from another planet. What don't I like? He inherited from Sony the same "complexion" at least that's my feeling. Anyone who has switched from Nikon/Canon to Sony knows what I'm talking about. I expect great things from the new firmware, especially on the SH2 burst (the one that starts shooting before the actual press of the shutter button), something that makes you understand that you are "TAKING PHOTOS" because otherwise because of the incredible burst and the electronic shutter of hangouts full of files or worse with the SATURATED BUFFER (90 photos). Overall very satisfied, I would redo the purchase especially in relation to the cost of the system.

Pros: quality - price.... Versatility... Lightness.... Power.. Battery (lasts practically twice as long as before, finally an excellent autonomy, about 2500 shots)

Cons: viewfinder still improvable - high res still slow and not very effective in the field

Opinion: Let's clarify immediately... The OM-1 is a machine designed for those who do sports and photographic hunting, also made especially for those who use bright telephoto lenses, in particular the 150-400. It is and remains a micro 4/3. Those who think of taking it to use it as a ff (thinking they have 2 stops of gain on the file compared to before) stay away from it and use FF.... First impressions after 25 days of use (not after half a shot in the store). First of all: I paid for the car !!! 2200 euros!! No one gave it to me or lent it to me and for any purpose.. Compared to the previous Em1ii / iii X (given that the raw file has remained practically identical) for everything else there is an abyss of difference obviously in positive in favor of OM1 .. Three aspects above all: -Autofocus: finally a modern and competitive autofocus, ultra powerful with 50 fps (exploitable only with fixed lenses) with a good recognition of the subjects. Very good recognition car / motorcycle. Good one for birds, but only if they are large enough in the frame, and unobstructed in between. the dancer and inaccurate behavior of the autofocus of Em1iii and Em1X has been almost completely eliminated, the deviations are really minimal ... In my opinion we are above the best apsc and a thread below the sports ff (R6 / A9) but we are there ... -Viewfinder : clearly better than the previous ones, very defined and fluid when there is light, blackout still present in various modes but you notice very little and does not create annoyance, and in sh2 disappears altogether. But the definition alone is not enough. When the light goes down, the sorrows come out... so much fluidity and pleasantness of vision is lost, it is still usable in any context but there is an evident worsening. The overall quality is still quite "television" and not entirely natural even in good light. - Jpeg : on the jpeg they did a great job !! The jpegs are beautiful, balanced quite well, keep shadows and lights in gamma better than before and especially at the other iso sensitivities you notice a clear gain on image quality. Doing sports with little light you can shoot at 12800 / 16000 / 20000 iso without problems, the images remain usable for many needs. Apart from the impressive power of the burst (afc 50 fps without blackout in sh2) for the rest the operating speed is the same as before, and even the shot in high resolution high res is still slow and not very usable, it makes you miss the highlights because slow. In my opinion it is a camera with an incredible value for money if used in sports and nature, the comparison with apsc is totally in favor of om1 and the one with FF is nice tight ... In short, I'm happy .... Finally even with the micro 4/3, unless you have incredible pretensions, there are no more limitations ... I no longer feel the monkey having to spend several thousand euros more and carry me many extra kg for an FF kit .. to take home the same photos...

Pros: Viewfinder, operating speed in general, ergonomics, .....

Cons: non-configurability of a button as on EM1X

Opinion: I started using Olympus just 4 years ago after buying an EM10 mkII that I always kept in the glove box of the car. So I used it only for landscapes that suddenly presented themselves to me. Since 2005 I have been dedicated to photographic hunting and since 2011 I have been doing it with the use of Nikon cameras. Just 2 years ago I came to try, in my favorite genre which is the photo hunt, an Olympus EM1 mkII, bought used, with the 40-150 f2.8 + MC14, and I was thrilled. Later I bought an EM1 MKIII that I used with the 300mm f4, again after an EM1X. For a few days I have been in possession of this OM1, a real pearl! As much as I have been able to try it to date, I can firmly say that it is a real jewel both in terms of AF, very fast and precise, for the dynamic range and in a small part for the High ISO. The viewfinder is gorgeous, it does not make me want that of the D850, almost as if I do not realize that I use an electronic viewfinder! In conclusion, I am a happy owner of the OM1 that together with the beautiful Olympus optics provides me with superlative images.

Pros: Viewfinder, tropicalization, stabilizer, battery life and improved high iso yield.

Cons: excessive use can be addictive

Opinion: I have been using Olympus for almost 20 years, from the E1 so I am absolutely biased, but for work needs until a couple of years ago I kept my foot in 2 shoes. I used Olympus for my personal photos and used a Canon ff kit for work. A couple of years ago I decided to abandon Canon and keep only Olympus for both my photos and work photos, after 2 years I can say that the choice turned out to be a winning one. With an m43 system you can work very well, and today the new OM1 confirms my choice even more. It is an excellent machine from every point of view, the new viewfinder looks like that of an SLR not a mirrorless, it has a very fast processor and churns out ORF (RAW) files that are so beautiful that they almost do not need post production, and this sorry if it is little means halving the hours of work at the computer. Finally, the iso yield has been improved compared to the previous model, not by much but by what was needed to take excellent photos (if you use the appropriate lenses of course) even in low light situations. Excellent machine.

Pros: Light, supertropicalized, much improved menus but above all SUPERLATIVE VIEWFINDER

Cons: If you are not used to "having it small", it may be that you do not enjoy it. Eye face recognition not up to Sony

Opinion: A GREAT step forward compared to the already good M1 MkIII. First the viewfinder, just for that, if you are over 50 years old, it is worth the upgrade. In the store when I went to get it I looked inside the GH6 and it looked like when you watched the matches NOT in HD. It reminded me of the magnificent one of the Leica SL2-S. The machine has a very fast operation. It is ergonomic and easy to handle and those who come from Oly are immediately at home. Menu MUCH easier and more sensible. Face-eye recognition NOT up to Sony, but still VERY good. The noise "seems to me" very reduced and the new workspace feature does a great job in a few seconds (on my notes about 4/5 seconds) without compromising the definition. Very nice JPEGs. I tried shooting in stores with neon lights and I didn'T have banding, but maybe I was lucky. It seems to me that for a brand that by all accounts "was dead", it has demonstrated a vitality and an ability to produce a technologically advanced machine that responds very well to the criticisms that were made to the System. IQ is NOT and will NEVER be at the levels of a good FF but those looking only for that, turn to the FF. Those who buy M43 do so for a whole series of other reasons, which are MANY and VALID.

Pros: Price

Cons: no one, if one buys it hopefully knows what he needs

Opinion: a 10 for the fact that despite the crisis crossed and the still difficult moments OM Digital has brought out an innovative product in its sector and economic if you consider in addition to the size of the sensor what the body offers, for example not all manufacturers declare the IP degree of protection, they limit themselves to saying tropicalized ... As an OK price, as a performance for 95% of THE OK genres, small size, for me the perfect machine :)

Pros: All to be discovered, the beauty is yet to come....

Cons: All to be discovered, but, from what I am told by those who are using it, the negative points are very few.

Opinion: Juza still has not received the OM1, for now I have the 1X, but I would like to know who are the 9 phenomena that gave a rating of 8.3 without even having tried it! It would take a little more seriousness. As the flagship of the OM System mirrorless range, the OM-1 is equipped with the most advanced technologies in the industry to realize your most creative ideas. Grab it and let yourself be conquered by its compact size, its ergonomics and its lightness. Free yourself from heavy, bulky cameras and tripods and rely on the world's best image stabilization system to take sharp, freehand photos, even in low-light conditions. Thanks to the weatherproof structure, you will no longer have to fear extreme weather conditions. You'll have the speed and precision to capture what you didn't think possible and create superb quality photos and videos.
