Pros: Very compact, sharp, well built

Cons: Electronic zoom

Opinion: Taken as a kit with the e-m10 mk 4 it was a worthy travel companion. Its main feature is that in 2 cm of depth you carry a 14-42 with you. It is fine during the day, less so with little light. Personally I took beautiful photos (even portraits). Metal bayonet, manual focus ring (skimpy but it's there) I don't like the electronic zoom, but in videos it works well. Overall a great kit lens

Pros: compactness, construction, good IQ in broad daylight

Cons: bad IQ indoors, only electronic zoom.

Opinion: Although it is not one of the "must have" of the m/43 system it is a zoom that I love either for its compactness, or also for an aesthetic that I prefer to my cousin Lumix in any case every merit and defect I write it with knowledge of the facts having it since 2015 and in that year I took it on holiday in Amsterdam: the photos - clearly taken in broad daylight - I still keep them, the IQ is more than satisfactory, defects such as vignetting and AC can be corrected in post; On the contrary, a short time ago I tried it in a dark interior where kneaded photos came out; So those who aim at this "zoom" already know what they can and cannot do. As for the construction I must say that I find it better than the brother 14-42IIr (among other things with the same brightness), it is felt to the touch and the bayonet is made of metal; In 7 years it has never given me problems but there are specimens that break the flat cable that regulates the focal lengths (a classic of the first olympus zoom like the 9-18): I have an unproven suspicion, it could depend on the menu function that adjusts the zoom speed, I have always selected it on normal, but there are those who sect on High ... moreover, actually having only electronic zoom is not a plus point, but you can not have everything in an ultra-compact lens, while a convenient accessory that serves those who do not want to waste time to remove the front cap is the LC 37C lens cover that certainly makes you seize the moment ... I have the JJC version, cheaper.

Pros: All for me mediocre without any excellence.

Cons: I find it "dark" and "faded"

Opinion: I'll be used to it too well myself, but I find the quality of this lens mediocre. Not usable for my needs: sold immediately. Clearly it's just my experience. Now on my Olympus I put series lenses and it's a whole other story. Rather than a handyman in the kit, I would have put a 20 mm f1/7 and they would have made a better impression.

Pros: Compactness

Cons: absolutely useless goal

Opinion: I do not want to denigrate this objective, but I would like to be useful to those like me who have never tried a Micro 4/3 camera. I had for a couple of weeks an Olympus E-pl8 (same sensor as the new E-pl10) with this 14-42 pancake lens in the kit. Well, I was stunned. It's not like I expected who knows what and of course the camera is cheap (well... the E-pl10 in kit costs 650 euros and the lens not in kit alone costs over 200) but... it's a camera! (By the way, the new 20mpx m43 sensor doesn't seem to be much better.) And the lens as can also be seen from other reviews is not a bottle bottom yet I made a comparison with the same photos made by a cheap smartphone (Xiaomi mi9 lite of 230 euros, to say not a top of the range and that basically costs like this lens) and the photos are qualitatively absolutely similar apart from a little more depth of field, which nevertheless improved them, in favor of the smartphone, and a better (but very little) dynamic range in favor of the camera, while the detail is practically identical. Raw photos processed in LR with white dot in manual against photos taken from the smartphone in jpeg automatically. Yes because jpeg photos directly from camera were really unwatchable. In addition, the maximum opening of the 3.5 lens with the M43 sensor allows you to take decent photos at the maximum around 3200 iso but already we are at 1/30 sec. For heaven's sake, the machine is stabilized.. at least that! because otherwise with little light it would not be usable only with very bright fixes or static subjects. In fact, in my opinion, micro4/3 generally makes sense when used with good light with telephoto jectives. Of course also with quality fixes but at that point you have to evaluate the costs / benefits. While it can certainly have its say in the naturalistic field reducing volumes and weights costs. Otherwise mounting a pancake like this on an m43 for size (e.g. to make street) doesn't make any sense. You get the same or even better photos with a cheap smartphone (or with a compact... they still sell).

Pros: Compactness even in full extension, lightness, good optical performance if the right specimen happens, unexpected resistance to flares

Cons: The construction is acceptable but I would have preferred it all metal type the 12mm f2 or the 17mm f1.8, electronic zoom speed (still improves a lot by setting "High" from Menu), difficulty docking and unhooking from the bayonet due to the ridiculous thickness the die

Opinion: I have the zoom 2.8 triad but I was looking for something extremely compact and light: considering the very low cost I tried this zoom of which I had read unencouraging opinions. I must say that I was surprised, sharpness not at the level of the Pros but very good also at the corners, both at 14 and 42mm. I believe that being a cheap production there is variability between the specimens, if the edges do not satisfy you I recommend you to try with another copy because mine has a definitely appreciable yield

Pros: Extreme compactness when not operating

Cons: Average output of kit lenses, no lens hood, electric zoom consumes battery

Opinion: Looking for a very compact compact:-) that did not make me lose too much in quality and still allow me to have interchangeable optics as on the SLR I took a kit OM D 10 Mark II inclusive of this lens. The result is achieved, camera and lens mounted you put them anywhere, not in a pocket but in a normal pocket or in a pouch without problems. The optical performance of the lens is sufficient, in the average of the kit optics and it really allows you to walk without weights and clutter. Closing the diaphragm a lot the sharpness is good, otherwise the images are always a bit mixed, especially at the longest focal length. In short, a perspective from which not to expect much and to replace quickly with something better if you are willing to give up the ultra compactness of the Camera + lens set. A note on the zoom drive. It is electrically assisted and the ring on the optic does not rotate completely but behaves as if two buttons are assembled: turning it lightly on one side goes in tele, rotating it slightly on the other goes in wide angle. In essence you can zoom manually but the displacement of the lenses is carried out by the electric motor with consequent energy consumption. The automatic MAF is pretty fast. The stabilization is entrusted to the sensor in the machine body. In conclusion A view that I do not recommend to buy alone, better to take something else. If you take the camera in kit then it is highly recommended because you would buy a really compact system and overall acceptable quality.

Pros: More compact than a fixed lens! Bright enough to be a 3.5-5.6, coupled to the em10 or em5 Pocket machine

Cons: Extends a lot of on (but it is inevitable for the type of goal), has an absurd tendency to balance white towards the gray/beige even under strong sunlight

Opinion: Great lens, it was the first of my fed m43 Kit, and unlike other, a lens that won't sell. WINS hands down on any 18-55 of march more noble, for clarity and compactness. MAF fast enough even in low light, allowed me to take 2 seconds too Freehand into town in the dark by grabbing the moving objects in a precise and clean, I didn't have a real 1:1 comparison but the MAF I think faster than the 12-40 PRO (which is pa ten of my Kit). As quoted in against, pity the absurd tendency to balance white towards the gray/beige even under strong sunlight, nothing irreparable provided you shoot in RAW.

Pros: Compact, sufficiently clear

Cons: In its price range and considered the price, no one!

Opinion: I confirm what was said by the other reviewers, considering the price and compactness the quality is more than adequate! RnAdd that the slowness of the zoom can be exceeded by setting the speed to "high" in the appropriate menu: rnrnMenu -> Utility -> Electronic Zoom Speed -> Still Picture / Movie -> Low / Normal / High

Pros: Compactness, weight, sharpness

Cons: Zoom a little 'lent

Opinion: A good Olympus lens, certainly not excellent (it's a kit lens) but that knows its stuff. Its size is practically nil (it is a pancake) combined with its lightness makes a machine like the OMD M10 practically a compact, which can be in a simple baby carrier. The sharpness is good (especially at 14 mm) and can give beautiful images especially outdoors. To be a kit lens is not bad, especially if you consider its size and weight. Personally, I use it widely in the mountains and everywhere I want a car so light that I forget it. I recommend buying, especially if in a kit.

Pros: Size, weight, aesthetics, colors, quiet AF

Cons: Motorized zoom, slow, diffraction

Opinion: If we consider that is a kit lens, ultra-portable, ultra-lightweight, it is an objective optically good, equal to the APS-C SLR kit for entry-level / midrange. If we want to compare to a fixed or an optical PRO, does not compare. If it's in the kit is a recommended optics, especially for video. If you want to take it on its own, it is not recommended. It is clear from f1: 3.5 to f1: 5.6 over the image pulp, compared to CaNikon kit niditissimo.rn

Pros: Compact size, aesthetics (if it's a pro), good optical quality

Cons: slow zoom

Opinion: I had 14-42 RII, then sold to move to 14-150 (I maintain), I decided to buy the 14-42 EZ outputs "lightweight / compact" and, regardless of whether it is aesthetically perfect for M10 and even if the aesthetic is not the photo, the eye wants its part ... rnNell'uso, however, despite the good optical quality (in my opinion just below the RII), the real penalty is the slowness of the impressive power zoom, if you do not take time to do the problem, but if you want to seize the moment you end ..... rn

Pros: Compactness, weight, size and color quality in general.

Cons: There is no lens hood, slow zoom.

Opinion: I own the Olympus EM10 and serial I chose this goal, I have to say I was positively surprised by the overall quality of the picture, also a 3x zoom into such a small space is to ammirare.rnSecondo me is a goal to have, always carry with you, and almost you do not know what you have so you pocket, for amateur photos of a certain level recommend it, however, if one looks for something professional well have to go through another ..

Pros: It made really good, compact and lightweight, blow up

Cons: motorization slightly slow, no lens hood can.

Opinion: I must say that I took this view in a kit with the Oly10, that is, only pro, really good, very small and with a good yield, if you really want the bother I can say it's just a little slow the motorizazione. A hood could be handy in some cases but I do not think is applicable, that is, optical Highly recommended for the trip or for those who want a nice small handyman.

Pros: compactness and lightness

Cons: poor sharpness, gives the best of himself outside only well-lit

Opinion: I had it in kit with OMD EM10, if I could go back I would not have ever taken. I think is the most scarce, as yield, between all the objectives Oly, better to invest on other goals: a few bright or some fixed lens-end pro. If you want to appreciate the quality of your OMD EM10, unless you have few claims, is not the choice that is right for you.

Pros: Compact and lightweight finish makes a tutt 'one with the M10

Cons: Zoom ring too close to that of maf, when making zooming if you strike the ring maf activates the 'magnification and you lose the' shot, I would have liked a lower resistance of the zoom ring, no hood

Opinion: Rating 6 for clarity and for the rest of the optical performance, valuable to build a very compact system, the machine goes into a pocket, but if you claim some 'quality must choose another, loses much against the 14-42 Panasonic nothing of that modest overall suffer from flare and becomes low in contrast against the light, I expected more from Oly

sent on 27 Novembre 2014

Pros: very compact, focal length good enough if we look compact, motorized zoom for iVideo, three aspherical lenses, manual focus, good minimum distance of focus, in overall good quality

Cons: no hood, no aperture scale.

Opinion: I personally took this zoom lens to its compactness, certainly not to the levels of the most renowned professional zoom, but mounted on E.M5 his work he does, then his real death is the Pen, in my long hikes in the mountains I appreciate very much, but even when they are in town to do some shooting street stands out shortly.
