sent on 10 Gennaio 2025 Pros: BOKEH, COLOUR RENDERING Cons: P R E Z Z O . . PRICE. (and opinion on sharpness) Opinion: Pros: I bought and tried the lens the day it arrived, and was impressed by the bokeh and color rendition. However, I still prefer the Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.4 G for its soft and delicate colors. I decided to keep both; I will use this Z model especially in contexts such as fairs, where I think it is necessary to use the flash for indoor shots. I receive the accreditation directly from Eicma, Autoclassica and Verona motorbike and it may be that it goes several days, so I have come to the conclusion that I prefer to have less weight on my neck and back and for this I will use the Z compared to the G model, combined with FTZ and the SB-5000 flash. (p.s. the backpack is not empty, there is other equipment and weight). Cons: The weight is slightly higher than other 85mm f/1.8 lenses, but the real sore point remains the price, which I find excessive for a lens of that focal length and aperture. In particular, the cost of this lens is about 300 euros higher than the Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.8 G, which I consider an excellent alternative. In general, my opinion of the Nikon Z lenses of the S series has improved slightly, although I still consider the 50 z the worst of the line, I absolutely do not recommend that. Update: I tested it better and removed more than one point (before I had given 8.5)... it lacks a bit of sharpness, I thought it had more, I noticed that in bright conditions with sun it works very well.. it has sharpness and I said to myself uaoo later I happened to use it on gray days and it struggles a bit in sharpness .. different models but I always shot close-ups, half-length and American shots. It may seem strange and/or impossible to you but it has much more sharpness in photos taken with the sun, for me the Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.8 G is almost a point higher. I will continue to keep the Z in my lens park for now. Paid Nital 734.39. Rating: 7,5/7+
sent on 08 Giugno 2024 Pros: Simply at a high level there are no discussions. Cons: But really? Opinion: I want to point out that comparing this lens to a Sigma I find it out of place as well as to other brands of different brightness, it is like saying that a 500 is slower than a Mercedes.... Having said that, my opinion on this lens is positive on everything, even on price and weight, finding it heavy for a few grams more in proportion to the yield seems absurd to me, also because those who have had the "lightest" version for reflex do not regret it, so I don't see the reason to report it as a con. I was able to shoot at 1/15 without the slightest choppy problem with both Z6II and Z8 so no regrets for the money spent.
sent on 11 Febbraio 2024 Pros: Handy, engraved, easy to use. Creamy nuances and excellent yield. Cons: It's not the F1.2, but it costs a third. Opinion: In the past I've had the 85 1.8 AF-D and the 85 AF-S 1.4 G (and also the 105 1.4 E ED, but that's another story). I liked the first one a lot, the second one a lot less... So I moved on to the third one. In the Z world, the 85 1.8S is a virtually flawless lens, and combined with the autofocus of the ZF or Z8 it doesn't miss a beat! Each shot is three-dimensional, enjoyable, ready to use and with beautiful bokeh. Some say that it doesn't have much personality, remaining a bit "cold" in the colors and in the general rendering. I say that at the price of € 817.00 (with Nital guarantee) you can't get better, even taking into account the fairly small size and weight. Certainly the 1.2 is magical.... But at 3400,00€ what is not?
sent on 22 Marzo 2022 Pros: Great goal. Great blurry. Cons: Nobody Opinion: It is certainly a very good goal. In the past I have always liked to have in my kit an 85mm that I used both on film and on the Nikon D800. I have an 85 f1.8 AFD with which I enjoyed playing using the full-aperture lens taking advantage of the very selective focus and blurring the rest. I missed a native 85mm Z. I must say that it is an excellent lens, pasty colors, soft blur as I remembered with the old and best historical nikkor. It seems to me much sharper than the AFD 85 version I have and definitely superior in everything. I am very satisfied especially for the quality of the colors and for the overall yield. Great bokeh. NB: I have never owned an f1.4 nor nikkor nor Sigma Art or other brands, so my judgment is relative to the previous AFD f1.8 that I own. I am therefore not able to make a comparison with other higher-end lenses, but this I must say that it is still a very good goal, one of the best (or perhaps the best) in my possession. It ranks, in my opinion, absolutely among the high-level objectives.
sent on 27 Settembre 2021 Pros: Image quality, bokeh, AF speed Cons: Size compared to 85 others 1.8 Opinion: I will be very brief. An optics that borders on perfection: honestly I have never had one of this level. No AC, creamy and progressive bokeh, sharp at TA. Really a great satisfaction to use it. Flaws: It is bulkier than other 85 1.8. As for the price, if you look at the quality of the optics I do not consider it high. Absolutely a must have for those who use the Nikon Z system.

sent on 04 Settembre 2021 Pros: Image quality, af speed, sharpness, good blurry but not at the levels of sigma art. Cons: Price, size. Sharpness is not all lacking a bit of character Opinion: I agree with the reviews of other users. An excellent optics. Nice blurred even if not at sigma levels, fast and quiet af. Bought, sold, at the beginning I preferred sigma art, then for a matter of weight I bought it back and now it is my favorite optics. Perfect for portraits, but I also often use it for street. I took it used but new costs maybe a little too much.
sent on 21 Agosto 2021 Pros: image quality in all its aspects, price Cons: minimum focus distance, vignetting at maximum aperture Opinion: Exceptional for sharpness, contrast and chromatic aberrations where it matters most, at maximum aperture; perhaps I would have expected something more from the blurry, which is better than the similar F-mount anyway. Maximum opening aside, it has a higher quality level than the Zeiss Milvus 85 f/1.4, so I say that the price is excellent, and with a little technical mastery you can make up for the 2/3 stop less. Vignetting a bit irregular, but maybe it's my specimen. From a portrait lens I would have liked to be able to get a little closer to the subject. Ah, Nikon! the rag you pass off as a case is indecent.
sent on 04 Giugno 2021 Pros: Image quality, blurry, contrast, correction, speed af, silence... a little bit everything Cons: is important enough in weight and size to be a 1.8 Opinion: A really successful lens. It costs a little but in line with other similar products that it outperforms the huge. It's not just crisp in an extreme way. It is also a lens with a very pleasant blurry... soft, progressive. A feature that is usually found only on 1.4. I've tried so many of 85. For me this is behind only sigma art which is a macigno unmanageable. I am very happy with the purchase and I can say that it is not only the price but also the transition to the Nikon ML system (along with other decidedly excellent lenses).
sent on 19 Marzo 2021 Pros: Sharpness, absence of chromatic aberrations, very pleasant, fast bokeh Cons: minimums, all those common to almost all z objectives: bywire focus, made in china, case, price Opinion: Great goal! Pros: extraordinary sharpness already from t.a; chromatic aberrations almost non-existent; the bokeh I like and the maf is quite fast; the construction is mixed metal-plastic but it is well done; also great for astrophotos since it has practically zero coma. Cons: Made in China, but it is done well so amen; like almost all z the focus is by wire, convenient automatically, although it is perhaps too sensitive, but in manual mode the feeling you have I do not like (it is subjective); the case is indecent, it is an irrelevant detail but they could have tried harder; finally size and weight but well the quality is great so that's fine so
sent on 29 Gennaio 2021 Pros: Sharpness, blurry Cons: price (but the price is paid) Opinion: After so much thinking I decided and took this lens that I consider magnificent, I allow myself unique and very but very TOP, sharpness, colors, and at maximum opening a crazy blurry (perhaps better than 85 others on the market of other brands) is a lens that I use for portrait both in the studio and outside, makes its best in the studio from F9 to F 13 in my opinion , and excellent in maximum aperture of F1.8 diaphragm for portraits where you want a real blurry behind the subject, I can only say that it is really an excellent lens and one of the best ever used and bought.
sent on 12 Dicembre 2020 Pros: Image quality, blurry. Cons: Price Opinion: A great goal, the sharpness at 1.8 is excellent, and closing the iris to higher values is to be used if you need more PDC. Aberrations absent, AF precise and fast. Lightweight and grips well combined with the Z6II. Together with the 50 S it is my perfect pairing for portraits. The price, in my opinion, is slightly high.
sent on 07 Settembre 2020 Pros: Sharp already at 1.8, non-existent aberrations, very nice blurred Cons: Maybe the price but the quality you pay Opinion: Passionate about portraits I could not miss this little gem, I use it on Nikon Z7 and it's great. Stunning sharpness already at the maximum opening of diaphragm, soft blurred with excellent detachment of the planes. I also had Sigma 85 1.4 ART, but this does not make me regret both quality and lightness. Solid construction and well done. If you are passionate about the portrait I highly recommend it, of course the price is still high but for me the money is worth them all.
sent on 05 Dicembre 2019 Pros: Sharpness, lack of AC. Cons: Price still high Opinion: Taken in place of the 85 f1.8 AF-S that I used on FTZ as a portrait medium I can only talk about it well. Nitida beyond any need on Z6 has a great yield. The only one is a tendency to counter and close the shadows more. Weight-to-volume ratio with the perfect zeta. It can give a feeling of lightness to those who are used to heavy zooms and metal optics. However a bets buy for the portrait, especially when prices have fallen to more normal levels.
sent on 30 Novembre 2019 Pros: Blurred, size Cons: Nobody Opinion: Taken for a week and I'm falling in love with this goal. Engraved as I like, precise and with an exceptional blurry rendering. It doesn't make me regret the Leica goals I had in the M10 kit. It joins the already excellent 50mm f1.8 and shares its portability, much appreciated in street sessions, and at 24-70mm f2.8. I think we'll do a lot of shots together with this jewel.
sent on 07 Novembre 2019 Pros: Blurred,No AC, Sharpness Already at TA Cons: Price, size Opinion: I have recently owned it but I can say that the differences with the "old" 1.8g are there. The lens is already clear to TA with a very pleasant blurring, in addition the ACs are practically absent; very valid the AF; in short, it proves in line with the other objectives of the S series. As defects I point out the fact that it could have been slightly more compact and the price per hour is slightly high (until January however there is cashback of 100 euros)
sent on 07 Novembre 2019 Pros: image quality, build quality, lightness, blurry Cons: Price Opinion: The lens is characterized by wide brightness that gives a pleasant blur. Extraordinary sharpness and very low weight. In overall terms it is in no way comparable to the yet excellent 85 f.18 G.Excellent in every respect, except the price that remains high, but perhaps commensurate with the quality and taking advantage of the promotion Nikon takes home with 100 euros discount.
