Pros: All

Cons: Complex menu. Battery life. Lack of a printed user manual in the box

Opinion: I use it mainly for birdlife. The autofocus is really a marvel: I come from a D500 that already excelled but this one recognizes the silhouette of the bird and rarely loses it (it also depends on how much it disturbs the background). With the Nikkor 180-600 it balances very well, which is positive because it tires the wrist less and with the use of the tripod. I don't go into technical evaluations because I wouldn't be able to. The image quality is exceptional, my comparison is with the D500. It is a camera with a menu that allows many settings and can become complicated to use because certain customizations are very specific, poorly explained, and of dubious usefulness (in my opinion). I didn't understand why I got jpeg files instead of NEF: only later did I understand that at certain shutter speeds it only produces jpegs. With the D700 there was a nice user manual, with the D750 this was written in -5 characters, from the D500 it is only online. I find this practice very questionable. The cost and complexity of the camera make it necessary, from my point of view, a paper manual, the old-fashioned way. It is not the same to read it on the screen. They do not do it for ecology but to save money. Overall the best camera I own for the photographic genre I practice. Finding fault with it would be ridiculous. The battery life is unacceptable. dolafasol@gmail.com

Pros: 45.7 megapixels

Cons: Nothing relevant

Opinion: Pros and cons are already widely eviscerated by other more (or less) competent comments. A fundamental aspect for me is to have moved to the world of over 45 megapixels (I had always had "range" cameras 20 or a little more megapixels) An enlightening turning point. Everything changes. Especially the approach to objectives.

Pros: Very versatile, frequent firmware updates with new features, 20fps in lossless raw, stacked sensor (3.7ms) with practically invisible rolling shutter, 8.3k 60fps video in raw or 4.1k 120fps, ergonomics, turns on instantly, very customizable menu and keys, sensor shield, illuminated keys, two usb-c ports

Cons: The eye autofocus sometimes gets wrong and the 3d tracking on distant cars coming towards the camera often fails by focusing and keeping the background in focus, n-raw or prores raw videos in 4.1k at 50fps or more are pixelated (probable line skipping), the autofocus in the videos is quite shit and is slow in following the subject (even setting the speed high), The dynamic range is not the best, pre-capture only in JPEG, black HDMI output when switching to video mode with a 1080p monitor connected, screen not very articulable

Opinion: Honestly I don't have much to add, except for the problem of pixelated videos when recording in nraw (which doesn't happen in normal prores or beggarly hevc), I can say that I'm satisfied with the camera body, the dynamic range and noise at high iso could be better but I think these are problems that go unnoticed if we consider the photo/video versatility offered. The pre-capture only in jpeg is a big bullshit and makes the function useless, luckily the cfexpress b are fast enough to allow me to shoot for a long time at 5fps in raw and then delete the advanced photos. Maybe it's because I'm coming from d3300 but the battery life didn't seem bad to me, it lasts those 3-4 hours of mixed burst photography and video at a rally event, and having a USB-C port for charging I can always bring a powerbank to extend the battery or recharge it during downtime, also I would like to go against the trend and admit that I was fine with the evf (which I recommend keeping at fixed brightness instead of auto, to prevent it from changing brightness constantly that make it difficult to evaluate the exposure), I had tried even if briefly that of an a7r5 and it seemed to be grainier despite the higher resolution, maybe it depends on how the pixels are arranged, boh.

Pros: Autofocus, ergonomics, file quality at low ISO (with good light even up to 3200), functionality, white balance, key customization, precapture, stacked sensor, speed.

Cons: Very intrusive noise at high ISO in low light, battery life, precapture only in jpeg, complicated shadow aperture, price.

Pros: Ergonomics, customization possibilities, autofocus and image quality at not too high ISO.

Cons: Quite annoying noise from 3600 iso upwards. Precapture in jpg only. The closure of the card compartment could be equipped with a safety hook.... it never opened but still it doesn't seem to me to be made up to the rest of the car.

Opinion: I have owned it since last October. Coming from the Z6ii (which I absolutely don't want to sell anyway) I found a great step forward on the autofocus side for fast moving subjects. It is not infallible but returns a large number of shots in focus even with very fast subjects. Lately I have had the opportunity to photograph the dipper with many shots even in flight where the af has behaved very well. I got it used for 3300 € with 3 original batteries and I am very satisfied with the purchase

Pros: Autofocus-tracking, burst, robustness

Cons: files, overheating, heaviness, exaggerated battery consumption, price

Opinion: I decided to have my say, after about 8 months of use as an advanced amateur, mainly birdlife. I started with higher expectations perhaps because, reading around, I let myself be influenced a little too much. I am of the opinion that the strengths do not need to be emphasized too much, they are there where before there was nothing similar at Nikon. Instead, I would like to talk about the cons, especially with regard to the quality of the files I get, in comparison with the Nikon D810 that I have had for many years and which rivals the Z8 with its head, often surpassing it. I don't like the feature of the Z8 files because I find in them an excess of digital processing and in the meticulous details you can see a plasticky effect that is not present in the D810 files. The setting I use in editing is the same, I haven't substantially changed my workflow, I use the same lens and often, for the type of photos I take, I have to do very strong crops: the result with the Z8 files is less natural than the one obtainable with the D810. I repeat, I find an excess of digital processing that disturbs me. And I don't think it's my impression at all. Regarding overheating. I am very disappointed that, despite using a professional CF Express type B card such as the SanDisk Extreme PRO 128 GB, 1700 MB/s read and 1200 MB/s write, shooting with a burst of 15 photos per second, in a climate with a temperature of 26-30 °C, the camera quickly overheats, obviously preventing me from being able to manage the situation as needed (being in the middle of nature, on the trail of an elusive animal and then losing the opportunity to take various photos, is simply unacceptable for a camera that labels itself as professional). If I then think of shooting a high-definition video, the overheating is almost immediate. Does it seem like a professional machine thing? Obviously this will force me to try other memory cards that are perhaps more compatible. But from a flagship, we should not expect this. Along with overheating, the enormous consumption of batteries is also felt strongly. It's not good, even if there are those who say it's normal, I don't think so. A professional-grade machine must guarantee a minimum autonomy much higher than that of the Z8. Regarding the heaviness, at the debut of mirrorless it was said that they would be more compact and lighter due to the absence of the mirror and the implementation of electronics and even the lenses would have the same characteristics. From what I see, Sony is respecting, at least for the camera bodies, this concept. Nikon, with the Z8, seems to me anchored to a DSRL concept rather than mirrorless. The price is excessive for the general quality of the Z8 and for its important flaws, first of all I would say the overheating, then the consumption of batteries and for me the quality of the files compared to the D810. What can I say? I'm happy with the autofocus, although to be honest, it sometimes jams and makes you feel like you're not at all at the top of your game. My conclusion, I emphasize mine, is that the Z8 does not have the characteristics of a professional camera, since it greatly limits the field of action due to the problems indicated and therefore the price is also far above its performance.

Pros: Traking - Robustness and compactness

Cons: No mechanical shutter - File quality - Batteries that wear out immediately - Unwatchable viewfinder

Opinion: A great camera for what it costs, solid, compact, fast, has a good autofocus, too bad for the unwatchable viewfinder for a camera of this level, it has a very low resolution and internally very small. Another flaw the files that come out are not up to the 850, too bad for the pre capture only in jpeg ... for the rest nothing to say,

Pros: MAF and tracking, performance, file quality, no mechanical shutter

Cons: Unfortunately it uses 2 types of SD cards and CF express, on an almost flagship you don't understand the choice.

Pros: autofocus, silence, excellent file quality, excellent performance

Cons: To say autonomy at this point is pleonastic. It is like saying that an electric car has less autonomy than a diesel or a petrol car. It's a problem with mirrorless.

Opinion: Coming, among other things, from Nikon D 850, an exceptional camera that not surprisingly beat the competition, I must say that, despite a certain mistrust I had, I did not notice great differences, with the positive note of silence and autofocus and, of course, the negative of autonomy. Rather it seems to me to be at risk of breaking the battery door when you extract it by tearing it out by mounting the battery pack, wasn't a button better?

Pros: Many, and all together allow it to be Nikon's only Z-series prosumer

Cons: Just as many, and they are the ones that certainly do not allow it to be called a flagship

Opinion: I arrive last to spend a few words on this excellent ML and this for two reasons: first of all I love to try a car well before getting an idea, I don't write about it the day after bringing it home. And then I really didn't need the Z8, I already have Zf and Z9 of which I am very satisfied, I bought it for lack of purchase syndrome and for a lot, a lot of curiosity, and now I come to describe what are my (very questionable) opinions. I will not dwell on the merits of this beautiful ML, they have been well described (sometimes with excessive emphasis) by all those who preceded me. I summarize by saying only that it is an excellent prosumer dedicated - in my opinion - to super amateurs, to those aesthetes who really compose a photo as if they were painting a picture, the Z8 supports them in their art and returns files of great value, sometimes unparalleled. It is more difficult to define it as a camera for light rides, in addition to being heavy it is not really ergonomic. And weight and bulk tend to spread by adding the optics which, if you want to make sense of the considerable outlay for the Z8, should be an S series if not even super S. In short, a nice brick for a light exit, but let's move on, can we consider it a camera for work? I would tend to exclude ceremonies and events where the use of flash is not allowed: mathematics is not an opinion and physics is inescapable, with such a dense sensor you can't go up with ISO without paying a pledge, you want to be good-mouthed, I personally don't use it above 3,200. And as paradoxical as it is, with the Z9 (which should have the same sensor) I work easily at 6,400 ISO, mysteries of electronics! In addition, the Z8 is definitely greedy for energy, it is a fact, those who had decided to work on it should never go around with less than three original batteries. In short, let's say that for work - remaining on the Z system - the Z6 III is definitely unreachable. Let's go on again, can we say that the Z8 is ideal for sports and photographic hunting? Well, from a performance point of view she really doesn't lack skills but... Here too some notes must be made. Those who work handheld with medium-long and heavy lenses know how to give the right value to ergonomics, and understand very well that holding them in your hand for half a day with a Z8 is not exactly the same as doing it with a Z9! And again: as you know, unlike the Z9, the body of ours is not completely made of magnesium alloy, much of it is made of polycarbonate, it follows that with the long sequences the heat of the CFexpress does not disperse, the machine heats up like freshly made toast and consequently goes first into alarm and then into block. To close, it remains to talk about memory cards, and let's say right away that having used two different formats was bullshit! The CFexpress has a write speed N times higher than an SDXC so, imagining to set the camera to the fastest shutter rate and the second card in backup mode, how do you think an SD can keep up with a CFexpress without slowing down the shutter rate itself? Ok, enough I'll stop here, I've already earned the curses of the many owners who optimistically define the Z8 as a "flagship". So I won't talk about the two USB-C outputs and how bizarre it is that only one can be used to charge the battery from the outside, nor about other small flaws. All the above critical issues do not prevent me from using this camera with extreme satisfaction, when I am in the mood I load my f 1.2 or the Plena on it and (despite my decidedly mediocre skills) I enjoy like a monkey! But please let's go slowly, as per Nikon tradition there is only one, and the current one is certainly not the Z8 ...

Pros: Ergonomics, high ISO resistance, AF and tracking, reliability. Backlit keys.

Cons: Battery life. Memory card slot flap. Complex menus in my opinion: you have to study them a little before you feel at home (but a subjective evaluation).

Opinion: I have been lucky enough to use most of the brands for work and last, but not least, I find myself working with Nikon now. What can I say: the high ISO resistance, criticized by many, I see as excellent. You can't compare it to a 20, 24 or 33 mpx! Such a dense sensor is normal to have noise and even more than the previous sensors listed, but definitely manageable. Leaving aside the fact that for those who print, up to 12,800 ISO, on paper they are not noticeable, I shot up to 25600 ISO and even if the noise is evident, but the colors remain faithful, as well as the details and sharpness so desired ... With a minimum of posts, every difficulty is solved and the file is truly exceptional. The grain, or noise in my opinion remain very pleasant and what is important for me is not so much the noise (sorry for the repetition), rather it is important that colors and details remain. This way you can save the photo even in the most extreme situations. As for the AF, it's what I was looking for: to date, all the big tops have excellent AF and tracking, needless to say the opposite, where you throw yourself, you will feel good. But with her, and this is a personal opinion, for how she thinks with recognition and tracking, that's what I was looking for. Sometimes he loses the hook or in difficult situations, he can have difficulties, but it happens very few times... If we want to give numbers: he can make mistakes one time out of ten, just to be fiscal and that time obviously does not always happen, but only in situations of high stress with important backlights, or drastic light or really confusing backgrounds. But I always talk about borderline cases such as: sunset in shaded areas photographing small passerines in the middle of branches and twigs and I repeat: it rarely happens. The recognition: impeccable. The camera is large compared to other mirrorless cameras, but once you pick it up you never part with it. Comfortable, well balanced with the objectives. I, who have serious back problems and a broken hand that only works halfway, was afraid of the bulks and weights but paradoxically, they are so well distributed that I keep it with me all day in the forests that there is, it's clear: but I feel absolutely no discomfort. The viewfinder is truly spectacular. I can't find any other words to describe it. The monitor as well. I feel like being essential because I really don't know what to say more than that. I have not yet felt the overheating of the machines and/or memory cards. I reserve the right to add the defect if it now comes up on mine. The machine is complex. At first, because of the menus, you can find it frustrating... But once set properly, the menus can also be forgotten. It is a machine that can give great satisfaction but it is not for beginners with money. Put simply. You have to know how to work with it but in the end, it becomes a glove. For me at least it was like that. The battery is sufficient, but it does not cry out for a miracle. They could have done much better. The card compartment door opens too easily. Sometimes, taking the car out of my backpack, I find myself taking it out and opening it. We have to be careful. I got used to it and it never happened to me again.

Pros: Ergonomics, Video, Burst, Autofocus, Customization, illuminated keys, night profile

Cons: High noise at high ISOs, overheating cards, battery life

Opinion: I've had it for some time, it's a complex machine that once seventy is due to its own style gives a lot of satisfaction. It's really exciting to go out with her in your hands, but that doesn't take away from the fact that she has several flaws. Especially the overheating of the boards, this is really very annoying, it forces us to take out the boards to cool them down. I don't understand how many don't talk about it, I tried two, and I found the defect in both. Yesterday morning 16/09/2024 I went out at 5 AM and it was 12 degrees and yet after a series of gusts and a 2-minute video in 8k 10bit the alarm came out. The machine has never turned off so far, but I have always stopped to cool the cards, I have never continued until I died. Another bad thing is the noise at high ISO, in some situations it is embarrassing, if we take machines from 10 years ago such as the d700 or the d3 they did not have all these artifacts. Mah.... However, the autofocus alone covers all the defects. The only thing given these imperfections I would have lowered the price which for me is high.

Pros: Ergonomics, stabilization, general speed, AF...

Cons: Battery life.

Opinion: I also have Z9, which I am very satisfied with and I consider Z8 a more compact replica, but also cheaper, of course. I won't go into the AF, I just say that I consider it of a quality similar to that of Z9, which for me is excellent. I needed a second body and I waited to try the new Z6III first, which is certainly a good camera, but I preferred the 45 mpx of the Z8. The ergonomics are excellent despite not having the body of the flagship, but being used to this I still added the very light L bracket by Leofoto, which has the QD system. The only perceptible difference in use and comparison with Z9 is in the quality of the rings and the switch, which are not as pleasant fluidity. However, nothing limiting. Using two very similar cameras and with the same file is particularly convenient, in my opinion. As it is obvious that both the battery life is evidently different, between the two cameras. I think I'll take a third one to avoid running out of money on some occasion. I used it in a birdlife session under the sun and with temperatures around 34 °, releasing intense gusts for a few hours, but I did not detect alarms of excessive temperature. Heating is a peculiarity that many high-performance cameras have and is complained about as a negative feature even on the Z8, but I think that there must be more extreme conditions than those to which I subjected it. I don't think I need to worry about it too much. I add on the subject of heating: going out with friends who use cards different from mine, always on Z8, we noticed an evident difference in heat of their cards (Angelbird) compared to mine, once extracted, so it would seem to me that the choice of the card can be influential for the purposes of heating the camera. For info I use Prograde Cobalt and Lexar Diamond. Z8 balances very well with the 400 f/4.5, which in kit with Z9 is less comfortable to use, especially on Gimbal. It also balances reasonably well with the 180-600 for which I found a ring with Arca foot and alternative QD mount, finally up to par (Leofoto NFC-01). I am convinced that I have made a good purchase, for what my needs are. In my opinion this Z8 has a decidedly interesting value for money.

Pros: Sensor, Files, AF in general, build quality, protect sensor, responsiveness, viewfinder experience, shadow recovery

Cons: Not great battery life. 30 fps only in jpg, pre-release capture only in jpg, in low light the AF with subject recognition sometimes not flawless.

Opinion: Taken at the beginning of June 2023, just released. Super ergonomics (coming from D500 I felt at home), exceptional file quality even at high iso and cropping (my main genre is birdlife). The absence of the shutter is something I immediately fell in love with. IBIS excellent. Used with the 24-120 it churns out nice and sharp files, very workable, the same with 105 macro F, 20 mm S, 180-600, 300 PF. In low light conditions (indoors, soft lights) sometimes the AF with subject recognition is not flawless. Too bad for the pre-release only in jpg and max 20 fps in raw. I trust in the fw upgrades which always seem to be nice and substantial. With FW 2.0 the bird AF and pixel shift are really two nice additions.

Pros: Ergonomics, viewfinder, low iso files

Cons: Underperforming battery, embarrassing high iso hold

Opinion: I bought it and resold it after a very short time. A nice camera with finally a high-performance af, even if I didn't need it to be so lightning fast for the use I make of it. As I said, the high ISO sealing, and by high ISO I mean above 1600/3200, is embarrassing to say the least. Muddy files (used with the 24-70 f2.8/ the 50mm f1.8 and the 70-200 f4) and not very detailed. It's really unbelievable that for the cost they didn't improve the sensor. Which may be 45mpx ok, but it can't perform so badly in low-light situations. Even the low-light AF is not performing. The rest, although good and improved, has no value in the face of such a poor quality of the files above 1600/3200. Rating 4,5/10

Pros: Ergonomics, operating speed construction

Cons: Absolutely nothing

Opinion: Busted a few days ago by changing it with a ZF that despite being a great car, has disappointing ergonomics compared to today's modern stains. Operationally very fast, very fast settings and quite intuitive if you come from the Nikon world, what to add is a great machine built like a tank and beautiful and fast, the noise of the shutter makes me laugh a bit but this was inevitable with only the electronic shutter. We'll see how it behaves in use, for now let's give 10

Pros: Ergonomics, speed, image quality, possible customizations, buffers, firmware updates

Cons: Battery definitely not at reflex levels but with a couple the day is taken home, I think it's physiological of ML. Ditto the price, it costs but it's worth what you pay

Opinion: My first camera bought new, after other nikon cameras always used. I came from the Z6 II (which was still excellent) and you can see the jump. First of all in the body, large and almost reflex-like, with many more keys than its little sister, well positioned and customizable for every need, a substantial camera in the hand that fits like a glove. There are also differences in the general responsiveness, in the 20 fps which for the shooting is more than enough, the banks to create pre-set settings for four different scenarios and above all the autofocus, which is really and finally reliable, as well as being able to focus even at night (almost). Obviously there is also a difference in the price, but I think that given the quality of the product, it costs the right amount. It has a lot of scattered goodies, for example I find very convenient the STAR function that allows you to illuminate the scene even in the dark so as to allow easier management of the scene with very little light. The firmware updates give hope that it will get even better, version 2.0 has added dedicated bird af and pixel shift, just to name a couple, which makes me even happier with the purchase. I spend very few words on the image file which is simply gorgeous, as nikon has accustomed us, and I find the 45.7 mpixel a perfect point.

Pros: Ergonomics; Speed: Almost immediate ignition; Autofocus a step ahead.

Cons: You have to have a lot of money set aside for both you and the Z optics. The battery in my opinion is undersized, it drains too quickly for those who do sports or birdlife.

Opinion: After years of golden service with the D800, I bought the Nikon Z6II, an excellent camera, compact, light and of great quality, but it lacked that feeling of professional body and "flab" in the hand to which all of us marpoons of the brand were accustomed. And finally Nikon woke up from the coma and pulled out the Z8 and Z9... THANK YOU NIKON. Now here we are.... Coming from Nikon Z6II, I can't help but notice, in addition to the aforementioned superior level ergonomics, a finally decent speed in turning on the camera (now it's fast). Also, from a technical point of view, it's scary both for AF and fps in continuous shooting. Shooting at 20fps you don't notice it and you take 1500 shots. On the video side, same story, crazy. Finally N-LOG profile and so on and so forth put as options, codecs etc., something that was absolutely missing on the Z6II that forced me to use Sony for the video side. The only thing I can't understand is why in the latest firmware update they didn't include the birds option like on the Z9. This bothers me a lot because seeing the difference on z9 between before and after, there is an abyss. Why not give the Z8 this update as well? In general, it is really a machine that will last over the years and will give us a lot of satisfaction.

Pros: Really Everything, a beautiful Nikon ML

Cons: Maybe the battery life.. but no worse than other MLs on the market

Opinion: It took me a while before I could write anything about my "definitive" purchase, which completely distanced me from even my beloved Nikon APS-C ML. Astonishing autofocus, speed and safety in locking on to moving subjects, to tell the truth no uncertainty shown on all occasions used, stressed with marine birds both in close mode and with telephoto optics. Intuitive menus, but I expect updates that complement the promised features. It churns out some really nice Files, excellent impact even at high iso despite the many Megapixels. I'll be brief..... It has everything you could want in a camera. Heavy enough, initially I was scared brandishing it, because I don't use a shoulder strap, I like to grip it with a safety strap on my wrist and to tell the truth it was not felt very much in all the excursions made, and above all well balanced even with the 70-200 or with the 100-400, two optics that enhance the speed characteristics of the z8. Received already without the recall of the flange, but with the recall of the eyelets, in 4 days sent and received, just to have no psychological qualms. I really like !!! Update to 20/05/2024 With the new update a superlative machine !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros: Autofocus, ergonomics, aesthetics considering it's an ML, excellent files as a range.

Cons: Ouch...... Batteries for those who do birdlife are never enough, a few episodes of loss of focus in the tracking field but when it locks on it is always on the eye.

Opinion: After a couple of months I think I have acquired a minimum of useful information to say what my completely personal feelings are. The least appreciated thing was the autonomy of the batteries in the birdlife sessions with moving subjects, very poor too much I would say but I hope for a firmware update since the first one did not give any effect. The autofocus is magnificent but not infallible, you have to make an ideal configuration for every situation but in some cases it happened to me that it did not perfectly lock the subject on the eyes but most of the time it does its job well. Those who say that at high ISO it is like the Z6 II perhaps did not do comparative tests on the exact same scene at the same time, having both bodies and having taken the same shots to verify the differences I can say that the younger sister I find it "cleaner" after ISO 6000 where the Z8 makes the files plasticky and unpleasant for me. At the moment I'm ignoring the question because all the optics in my possession have never had any hooking problem and I don't use the strap rings because the camera for most of the time remains fixed on the gimbal therefore without strap. For hand use I found the handle very ergonomic, in fact at the presentation at the end of July, where I picked it up for the first time, it took a couple of minutes to decide that it would be my decisive choice. One thing I found really annoying was the fact that both Capture One and Photoshop with Lightroom and Camera Raw didn't read the files to me. NEF, downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw now works as well as co Lightroom are waiting for updated C1. In my opinion, since there is no perfect camera, I evaluate this one with a score of 9.5, maybe a contribution from Nikon at the firmware level will raise the prices, but this is already a lot of stuff.

Pros: Having tried so many of them, I think this one beats them all.

Cons: battery life a bit poor nothing else.

Opinion: I try to keep it short, it's going to be my ultimate camera. I've had a lot of them, from the analog F series to the digital, not least the D850 and then move on to the Z6 and Z7, first and second series to get to this Z8. For my needs it satisfies me in everything, it doesn't take better photos than the others, it works like a Z7ii but it helps a lot in all phases, from the focus to the 3D tracer to the stabilization to the adjustable display which in landscape photos is a boon and to many small tricks that make it a machine that I would call Useful is the minimum. It doesn't work miracles like no other machine does, but I can say that I'm fully satisfied with it.

Pros: Files, autofocus, ergonomics, speed, Nikon of those done well!

Cons: Not having it or finding faults due to one's own inability (or simple lack of reading the manual) -.-

Opinion: Premise: it was given to me. I already own a z7 ii which I'm extremely happy with, this z8 represents another Nikon shot to raise the bar of quality / brand experience. It is a reactive bomb and performs great in every photographic genre, the gap shows it in action photos where the z7II (obviously) remains to watch enviously. It requires (like its sister z7 II) quality lenses, but still manages to do well even with poor lenses. It is not a machine that you can pick up if you are a "Sunday photographer". Ultimately: z8 10+, Nikon has reiterated that it knows how to do well.

Pros: All

Cons: Batteries and autofocus in special conditions (see text)

Opinion: Even the undersigned shoots with Nikon for some decades and therefore part ?... F2, F100, D40 D7200 D700 D800 D810 D850 for SLRs and Z6 and now Z8 for mirrorless... I loved them all and all always fit me perfectly and for each of them I found many merits and few defects then came the D850 a perfect machine, in my opinion, useful on every occasion, but mom Nikon has not given up and since the margin of improvement could only be to veer forcefully towards the world Z at that point it launched on the market first Z9 and then Z8. Z8 is an excellent machine that is not free from defects even if it touches perfection ... One of these is given by the batteries that have a somewhat short duration and force you not to use the convenient communication options with other open devices slowing down the workflow a little (unless you have the possibility to connect it to the mains) but with a software or hardware update you can buffer. The autofocus compared to what Nikon has proposed to us until the appearance of the Z9 that has given a focusing system with artificial intelligence really level ... Excellent tracking of the subject and eyes (although every now and then "barella" a little if there are movements too sudden improved via software) even in low light conditions, almost magical. For the rest there is little to say the machine has improved and speeded up the workflow, allows me to spend less time in posts and to have a reliable means for any type of work from portrait to sport to ceremonies to travel! My car today 24/08/23 left for a small trip to LTR to remedy the defect of the poorly fixed hooks (in a month of use I did not notice any problem but the risk is not worth the candle ...) and we hope that the 4-day estimate for the return are real ... I will update you on this. Update the machine returned to me from LTR assistance today 29/08/2023 so 2 working days of work and 2 of travel!!

Pros: Ergonomics, file quality, autofocus, speed.

Cons: Nobody

Opinion: I have been a Nikonist for almost half a century, so I confess that my evaluation could be a little bit conditioned by my unwavering faith. I fell in love with it because it is the only machine that sticks to the hand and does not come off anymore. For ergonomics and for the sake of holding it, qualities that I have not found in any other machine, not at this level of pleasure. And yes, I have had, and used, several. Just to say, the Sony in my opinion, certainly technically advanced, in the hands do not fit: bite. I was, and still am, a loyal D850, certainly the best DSLR ever built, but I had not yet made the jump to the Z series, except for a Z6II that I still kept and use with Voigtlander lenses. The Nikon Z8 is in my opinion the equivalent of the D850 for mirrorless, a bit as if Nikon had decided to put the arrow and leave them all there. A bit late, perhaps, but that's fine with me. There is this story of calls, not too pleasant, but the rainy season will come and I will also be able to do without it for a few days. It will be like buying it again, but this time without spending a euro. Small update: I sent the machine to service for the recall of the rings. Returned after the strictly technical times, collected on Tuesday and returned the following Tuesday, the invoice generically indicates the revision of the belt attachment. In my opinion, as in most cases, they simply subjected the attacks to a tensile test that evidently showed no anomalies. On the net I could not see a single video that highlighted the defect, but I must have been careless. In any case, the machine is formidable.

Pros: Autofocus speed, file quality, body ergonomics

Cons: Some uncertainty in the more dynamic focus

Opinion: I bought the Z8 about a month and a half ago and so far I can be more than satisfied in every respect. The files are detailed but at the same time light thanks to the new compression algorithms, practically with twice as many megapixels the weight is slightly higher than the file of a Z6II... Not bad!! Yield at high iso excellent and equal again to the Z6II which has half the megapixels so in theory a machine with more megapixels should generate more grain and instead is equal and indeed it seems to me that the Z8 generates a more pleasant grain than the Z6II. Dynamic range, perhaps I would have expected something more but it is still very high and comparable to the other mirrorless Z. Battery life well beyond expectations, I made a service at the theater taking 4000 photos without problems ... The important thing is to disable the various connections that knock down the battery. Fast autofocus and with many options, perhaps it has some uncertainty with fast-moving subjects but nothing so problematic. Last note, my car is in stock of the Z8 with the problem with the attachment of the lenses and the eyelets of the belt that could detach. So far, neither problem has arisen. I doubt that the lenses start from nothing not to hook properly, while as for the attachment of the strap at the moment I'm not experiencing problems but obviously I keep an eye on the situation.

Pros: AF system, customizations, viewfinder

Cons: For now nothing apart from the cost of CFexpress

Opinion: Taken shortly after arriving in stores I'm discovering it with use. I had already tried the Z9 several times so I was not surprised by the quality of the viewfinder and the AF system, in my opinion more than up to any need. The body is heavier and slightly more voluminous than the Z6 had to date but it is not a limit; For example, I did not take the additional base having a more than adequate grip already so. The battery does not give a sign of excessive consumption, just disable the wi-fi connections and the duration is fully comparable with that of the other Z (Z9 excluded), for those who intend to make a professional use it is certainly advisable to always have a second spare battery with you. Taken in kit with a CFE Lexar Diamond I do not have the slightest slowdown, neither with bursts at 20 fps nor with 8K video, I have not tested it under the direct sun but, for now, I have not noticed overheating or safety warnings. I will continue to update my review with use, but still found no compelling reason to complain about the purchase. PS: Lens mount and strap hooks all ok.

Pros: Weight

Cons: Price. Focus subject recognition is not as perfect as advertised. Very serious defect the breakage of the belt attachment

Opinion: I have this machine for two months I'm not very satisfied is not really as it was advertised but the most serious fact is that they have problems with the hook for the belt breaks and the machine can fall as it has already happened to several people mine falls into those of the possible defect I'm waiting for them to give me answers but that surprises me is that they do not replace anything use glue at least hearing voices of those who had the problem. Very very disappointed. ATTENTION Those who have to order it are better to think about it a lot.

Pros: All or almost, Weight, ergonomics ...... Top!!

Cons: Lack of GPS (although easy hooks Snapbridge), to check the battery life, lack of some programmable key compared to the z9

Opinion: I'm thrilled!! everything like Z9 that I will not sell (for now). 2h with 70/200 f8 freehand and do not feel it, for the batteries we will see in the daily sessions of Avifauna with 2000 shots (many gusts) how many batteries it will take ... (I have 2 older ones). In the first output I was excited, true that I tried it with the maximum of my lenses (24/70 2.8 and 70/200 f 2.8) to check the balance with the 800mm s I add a note, compared to the z9, which is redundant for programmable keys, here there are fewer and maybe a couple I miss (eg Fn-3 in front).
