sent on 21 Agosto 2024 Pros: Weight balance in reference to the focal length superb optical rendering Cons: Against? the "expert" critics know everything...... Opinion: I state that I had the opportunity to try it well with a friend for a comparison with the 14-30 brother and yes..... It costs what it is worth, there are differences that you pay and this justifies the price but does not make you regret the money spent. Those who define both the 14-24 and the 14-30 of very poor quality must have in their backpack the "monsters" f 1.2 or even f 0.95 but they make comparisons and give meaningless judgments because two lenses rated with 9.6 the 14-30 and 9.9 the 14-24 I don't think they have been reviewed by donkeys so something sounds strange to me. In my opinion, the 14-24 is a professional lens that must be appreciated for what it does and the files I brought home are respectable combined with the Nikon Z8 and Nikon Z6II, then there is always to take into account that it is always the light that makes the difference.
sent on 24 Dicembre 2023 Pros: It is the perspective of miracles, needless to say anything else Cons: Nothing, the cost (decidedly high) is proportionate to the performance Opinion: After having "opened" to the ML world with very little conviction with a Z9, he naturally posed the problem of giving the newcomer a minimum of optical equipment. I initially thought of the f 4 for weight and size but after trying them I came to the conclusion that the tamrons disguised as nikons are not at all level, maybe they go well with the lower models but with the flagship they definitely don't go well. And so, with a tearful wallet, I had to land on the triad of f2.8 zooms assisted by the 400 f4.5 S and the magic pair of f1.2. I state that the judgment I feel I can give on 14-24 applies to the entire triad of f 2.8. They are incredible lenses on an optical level, truly unsettling, and in their respective focal lengths they set new standards of excellence. Because if being able to optically improve the now old AFS 14-24 and 24-70 VR was in the ropes of any brand, it was not really obvious to improve the 70-200 FL. Optically these three zeta series are stone crusher, there is none for anyone and I find it superfluous even to discuss them. I forgot, our 14-24 is equipped with 2 lens hoods, the largest of which acts as an adapter to mammoth 112 mm filters. More performing than the old 14-24, lighter and less bulky. In short, super-recommended, and with these performances even the price becomes a detail ...
sent on 07 Giugno 2023 Pros: all Cons: nothing Opinion: I tried to resist for a while, having the F version that I used via FTZ... But I didn't make it and this morning I got it. Beautiful, superb construction, amazing size and weight compared to the old f version and an optical yield above suspicion. At the moment it is the best 14/24 2.8 in the world and I think it will be very difficult to do better. It is the classic optics that makes you choose a SYSTEM and that is kept on the stock exchange for decades. Indispensable for landscape designers and street has the additional advantage of not being noticed too much. Optical performance is excellent at all apertures. It does not suffer from flares, nor from showy and complicated aberrations. The sharpness is at the highest level and no equivalent of the competition equals it. Another blow of Nikon, of those epic and colossal.
sent on 28 Maggio 2023 Pros: Definition/Flare Resistance/Compactness/Different Filter Solution Cons: Price Opinion: I have heard so much criticism from many non-Nikonists about this lens. Personally (for the use I make of it) has never disappointed me in any situation. Sharpness/Versatility/dimensions and above all the possibility of having different solutions for filters / polarizer: - Possible purchase of circular filters to be mounted in the 120mm hood; - You can buy and install Haida rear ND filters; - Possibility to buy the adapter to use the 10x10cm plates - Possibility to purchase the entire S6 NiSi system for circular polarizer + 150mm plate filters Compared to its predecessor for Full Frame SLR it has a truly enviable flare resistance even in really high backlight conditions. The focus is fast and precise, the sharpness really good. The only negative point is certainly the price (a bit like all Z lenses), but now you begin to find some used in excellent condition. To conclude; A choice that certainly does not regret!
sent on 08 Gennaio 2023 Pros: Optical quality, build quality, weight and compactness Cons: Price but in line with the competition, oled screen for my use I find it completely useless Opinion: I sold the 14-30mm S and the 20mm S to take this one, not to be able to follow too many lenses and have an ultimate lens. The optical quality is excellent, the construction beautiful massive despite the weight is very low. It is very sharp and honestly on the field I do not see differences with the 20 mm S in terms of sharpness, while compared to the 14-30 at the corners it is superior. It has a better flare seal than the already excellent 14-30 and a more beautiful light point. Zommando does not extend and is not collapsible, which as much as it reduces the bulk I always hated on 14-30. The third ring is very comfortable while the oled screen I find it useless, what's the use??? if I focus by hand I use the camera screen I certainly do not start to read the distances on the display ... Since there is the third ring I would have preferred to have had the mechanical focus ring and not by-wire, it does not convince me but it is so in all Z. They provide 2 hoods, well one would have been enough and in its place they could provide a case worthy of an optics of that price, instead I had to buy it on amazon (obviously they are subjective considerations, I do not use the hoods always using the plate filters). Finally, you can not put 82 mm filters as with 14-30 but with the NISI holder you can use 100mm plate filters (which cost less than the 112mm circular) and it pairs perfectly without passing a thread of light, so great! In short, it is a very good goal, which behaves exactly as a lens of that level should behave!
sent on 27 Dicembre 2022 Pros: Optical quality at the highest levels, no flare, compact, granite construction. Cons: Hood and price... price! Opinion: Finally after so much I managed to take it, it is really an amazing optics, at the top of the category. Compared to its big brother F is another planet in performance but also in compactness, carrying it around is a pleasure even in less committed outputs. A blade at all apertures and focal lengths, from edge to edge, an optics with fixed performance, even at TA, practically non-existent distortions. No compromise. Very useful in my opinion the upper oled display, which allows indications in total darkness, convenient for astrophotography. It can mount 112 filters, which are not cheap, but it is a possibility that in my opinion allows you to save something even on the dimensions compared to holders + plates. Defects? For me, the hood could be a bit more protective and robust as well as better seal possible infiltration of light. Another flaw is the zoom ring that I would have made a little more fluid, but maybe it's just my specimen and anyway with time it should soften. The price is very high, but we must consider that it is a definitive perspective. One of those glasses that remains in your kit for at least a decade.
sent on 18 Giugno 2022 Pros: The King Is back Cons: Any product can still be improved Opinion: After so many years of waiting it is finally back in a completely updated version with Z attack. It was not my intention to take this splendid perspective at its release (I wanted to wait for the first cashback or discount at the Nital cash desk) but, thanks to the tempting devil (who took on the guise of a user of this forum who sent me some RAW), I took it practically a few days after its launch on the market. Amazing optics, sharpness at all focal lengths, always very contrasted, very low optical distortion and practically absent on the entire focal range. Very light, excellent construction, superior OLED display useful in various conditions (especially at night, digital scale of the perfect maf (at least on my copy). It comes with 2 hoods and, the larger one, allows the mounting of 112 mm filters. Hood that can then be used on other Z optics (tested on 24-70 f 2.8, 70-200 f 2.8, 50 f 1.2) and this is a great thing. The only disadvantage is that it does not allow you to mount more than one filter at a time but easily solved using the clip filters in the room or the rear filters (solution that I have embraced since the first hour). Flare resistance never seen in such a lens. Needless to say, in terms of coma, in the 14-16 mm range, this lens is undisputed and probably will be at least until the next generation of ultra-wide anglers. Over the years I have purchased, used and / or tried all the most famous lenses for astrophotography also of third-party manufacturers and also of competing brands and much more expensive than the 14-24 Z (also thanks to friends and various associations of amateur astronomers that I frequent and that I have attended) and no one can keep it up in astrophotography (especially in the range indicated above) where it is, without a doubt, the top that the market today offers.
sent on 20 Febbraio 2022 Pros: size and weight, optical qualities. Cons: to name one, the only fact that on the hood it has a small slot that in long exposures can be subject to light infiltration. Opinion: His for a couple of months and I must say that compared to his older brother for SLR has improved in everything. Weight and dimensions with the front lens no longer protruding, flare resistance to the condition that at night you use its hood to avoid the flares of street lamps for example. Excellent sharpness and very controlled distortion make this lens a MUST HAVE for Nikon ML owners. the price I do not find excessive. Possibility to mount filters more comfortable and slightly cheaper than the 14-24 v2.8 G. Rating 10 without reservations
sent on 02 Dicembre 2021 Pros: Sharpness, weight, handling, tropicalization Cons: cost a bit 'excessive Opinion: Recently purchased, I have to try it with the starry but based on what I see, it does its job very well. Obviously being a particular target, its use is quite limited (it is not a 24-70 all-rounder, here) so it is required in particular situations. From the first moment I was amazed by its sharpness, it simplifies post-production so much. It can always be used with a totally open diaphragm without giving any problem or disturbance. Highly recommended, if you really need it!
sent on 28 Ottobre 2021 Pros: Sharpness, Resolution, Weight Cons: Shinshiods to forget Opinion: At a first examination, to be deepened, the optical qualities are significant: much better than its homonymous F mount and also of many fixed optics; plastic appearance, like all Z's, but still functional. Brainy choice to provide two plastic shiners, despite being the construction of the lens already petal, with several unreasonable drawbacks. The larger hood is needed to use 112mm filters; in fact it is not possible to mount a fixed protective filter (essential for a curved lens) but it is necessary to fix it on this hood, with the consequence that the size of the lens and what you need to carry with you significantly increases. I do not understand why the thread for circular lenses on the petal of the lens and / or on the smaller hood has not been prepared (it seems to me quite possible). The use would have been more effective and the overall cost reduced (a 112mm protective filter ranges from 150 euros to over 300: an absurdity). I am amazed that other reviewers have not noticed the problem, which is evident to those who use filters and need to contain the size of what they carry around.
sent on 04 Ottobre 2021 Pros: A razor, very sharp, very high quality Cons: dimensions towards fixed lens lenses, price, not free from distortion Opinion: For me who come from the so-called analog, the photos with rolls in short, having such a marked sharpness in a non-fixed perspective was a very pleasant surprise. The lens is really sharp and pleasant, the files produced are definitely beautiful and need minimal pp, this is a personal point of view of course but objectively the files are really good. I understand those who call it small and handy... compared to the fixed lenses from analog photos I see it huge but I appreciate the point of view of those who have a different perspective. Just a consideration from this point of view, alternatively I had assumed the 14-24 Sigma that costs a lot less, here is that weighs almost twice as much on its own and for the Z attack you need the adapter. A drawback that I would like to point out is that this lens is not free from distortion, at the minimum focal length and for very close subjects, you have to pay attention to it.
sent on 08 Settembre 2021 Pros: Weight, bulk, optical quality, filterability, data display at night. Cons: Price, just wanting to look for the defect Opinion: Purchased in place of the glorious old 14-24F and replacing the 14-30 that did not really convince me, despite having stayed with me for a couple of years. I would say that it is basically perfect, optically without defects, incredibly low weight considering the optics, not small dimensions but definitely inferior to the predecessor. Having an endowment of 100mm plates I bought the NiSi holder, which works perfectly. Nikon has definitely pulled the rabbit out of the cylinder.
sent on 27 Giugno 2021 Pros: Weight, portability, sharpening Cons: nobody Opinion: Taken as a replacement for the old 14/24 I can safely say that it is a spectacular lens. The first thing that comes to the fore is the weight and size, which now makes the lens very comfortable to carry. Flare problems are an old memory, and even in the backlight it is very easy to shoot. Possibility with adapters to mount 100mm slab or 112mm screw filters that help in portability. The quality rendered by the image then is incredible, a lens that costs but that is at the top of the category. A must to have.
sent on 14 Aprile 2021 Pros: Very light, small size, great sharpness, removable (double) lampshed. Cons: Only the price Opinion: Happy owner of this magnificent lens for a few days. The thing that immediately impressed me by opening the package was the very small size and a much lower weight than the predecessor of the F series. The lens in the front does not protrude much, indeed say very little and is supplied with a double light shield, one standard and one to use circular filters Ø122. The old 14-24 also had the odious problem of not being able to disassemble the lampshed, as well as an embarrassing weight. Now paired with my Z7II I find myself a much lighter backpack, for me this is a really important thing. Great sharpness, I still took a few shots to be able to fully judge his surrender but do you hear ? I made enough countersuns to understand that the flares problem that plagued the old 14-24, has almost zeroed. Something remains if in the frame the sun is lateral but always very controllable and circumscribed around the sun itself. For now I am very satisfied, soon I will test it (if they remove this cursed curfew) at night at the maximum opening, I am curious to see if they are manageable coma effect, astigmatism or other typical distortions outside the frames.
