sent on 28 Gennaio 2026 Pros: File quality from iso 100 to 800, construction, ergonomics, battery life, optical viewfinder, low light AF, current price (01/2026) Cons: Speed of use, ISO 800 to 3200 sealing Opinion: For many years it was a chimera: it cost a lot and only real studio professionals could afford it. Then time took its course and today with € 700 you can find a specimen in good condition and with the right shots. But at this price today you can find the D810 which is and still remains one of the best cameras ever produced. All right. So the question is: why buy a D3x? My answer will surprise you a bit: because it is a piece of history. But not only for that of course... Having the good fortune to have owned and used intensely practically all Nikon bodies from D2h to D4s I can say without fear that the D3x comes out of the chorus, it is a truly niche product that if used in the right conditions is not comparable to anything else. Leaving aside the obvious things related to construction and ergonomics that are almost perfect (it is the same as the D3) I would like to focus on the sensor and on the comparison with the D800/D810: this, unlike the D8xx series, churns out more "material" files: a much more classic look, less loaded, practically like comparing the Nikkor D series line with the G series. Between iso 100 and 800 it is a miracle, I have no other words. Everything, from colors to grain, from pure resolution to the possibility of recovering light and shadow, seems miraculous in fact. And my assessment is made today, let alone in 2008! Now I understand why two random names, Oliviero Toscani and Steve McCurry, used it as their art tool. Beyond iso 800 you have to use something else, but it is still more than excellent up to iso 1600. That said, for all-round use the D810 is certainly better and to those who ask me for advice I continue to support this: if you need a real camera (with a mirror...) I don't think there is a better choice than the D810, currently. But if you are lucky enough to be able to have many bodies, perhaps to collect them, then the music changes: the D3x remains to this day a real rare jewel, unique in its kind (remember that it continues to be the Nikon pro with the highest number of MP ever built) and absolutely does not look bad with much more recent sensors. The only sore point is the lack of responsiveness in use, especially in viewing the gallery and the photo just taken, but I would say that we can safely pass over it ... Long live the D3x!
sent on 24 Novembre 2024 Pros: Professional and indestructible Cons: Too many mpx for a 2008 project. Better D3 / D3s Opinion: Exceptional machine to say the least! It performs great in all vampires except sports and birdlife where the two D3 / D3s sisters are much better! Tropicalized, beautiful and almost impossible to find today! At the time Niko. He thought of increasing the mpx and lowering the iso and fps hold. Machine dedicated to landscape painters, studio photos and portraits/architecture. Personally, as a general balance, I prefer the D3 and the D3s. To date, if you happen to have one well kept at an honest price, I highly recommend buying it!
sent on 27 Maggio 2024 Pros: All Cons: No one except that when I'm walking around with D3x and nikon 24/70 f2:8 everyone looks at me in a weird way... Not even if I were McCurry Opinion: Taken a year ago I find it the definitive camera (x as a photographer I don't do bursts... No birdlife... No sport... It's a pleasure to hold it in your hand... beautiful... Massive... It exudes robustness from every side you look at... I'm not interested in Fotoshop or Pro programs for PP... I photograph like when there were the dia... One click and go... and fantastic files with great cropping possibilities
sent on 09 Dicembre 2022 Pros: Machine body PRO Cons: All if we consider the technological gap to 2022 Opinion: If you buy a D3x in 2022 it is because you are not really interested in all the good of God that can be found on the latest SLR and ML to current technology, you buy a pro, ergonomic camera body that churns out very workable raw files of excellent quality (in raw 14bit uncompressed are 50Mb per file); Regarding the nominal ISO at 1600 are not so poor as I read on the net but for the high ISO I rely on the twin D3S to which I could not reunite regarding the noise tightness (especially chromatic) even today; That said I found it at € 600 with 100 thousand shots, at this price I did not think too much.
sent on 04 Dicembre 2022 Pros: Super photos, a tank, focus almost always accurate, great colors and more than enough resolution Cons: Lack of flash (whatever they say... sometimes you need), poorly defined LCD screen and colors off (but I lose it since it is now 15/16 years old) Opinion: Taken alongside my D810 even if I did not really need it because this goes from god, I immediately found myself at ease despite the imposing bulk compared to the not small D810. I've had it for a month and it looks new, it has very few shots, less than 10 thousand and it is complete with everything. As a photographer I do not notice great differences between the two cameras as a final result, one is worth the other. The difference lies in the date, modern the D810, obsolete the D3x (screen, memory cards, few iso, maybe the lowest resolution, batteries, keys set differently etc. etc.) but perhaps this is its beauty.
sent on 08 Febbraio 2020 Pros: Great files. Balanced in weight shapes and distribution. Cons: Nothing Opinion: Taken to replace the D750 with which I never had a feeling. With the D3x it was love at first sight. Mine has 30,000 shots. Perfect in everything but has a dot in the sensor that you can not remove. Patience. I told myself... and if I had the dirty sensor... what would I do? Lighroom was the tisposta. And I keep taking pictures. I would never, ever sell it. . Beautiful reflex that I use with 28-70 f/2.8 (nice pesantuccio...) sixe D and the brother is 70-200 D f/2.8..satisfied
sent on 07 Febbraio 2020 Pros: It's a flagship, security, great files... high ISO suppers as I judge them Cons: Nobody Opinion: It is the last of the D3 series that was missing and now I am affixed for many years and will join the D3 and D3s for work. Taken at no cost because I did change with my D800 that I was not there and used with the flagships looked like a toy, I regret dynamic range and crop and against the heavy files. I shot at 3200 and 6400 ISO and the difference with the D800 is not much perhaps a bit sharper. Even though she is 12 years old it is still a super flagship for me and since I will have to work there I am very happy because it give me an indescribable feeling of security.
sent on 10 Luglio 2019 Pros: Reliable, do what you want. Cons: Comparing it to modern reflexes or ml, it would have dozens, but it would be a nonsensical comparison. Opinion: Good morning, I've owned this car for a year. I find it perfect for me, yes the weight is relevant but comparable to a D850 with bg. So, the D3x is a machine that I find fun to use, it's my first ever flagship, and I have no previous comparisons to do either as a body or as an mpx, my previous ones were at most 16 mpx in apsc or 12 mpx format in ff format, so what this machine gives me back, for me is fantastic. It has all the controls ready, it's quick to do what you set it to do, yes yes the burst at maximum raw resolution is a sloth, but in the studio with flashes is sufficiete. There are so many admirers of this camera and I understand them. Compared to modern machine bodies, it lacks many things, be it physical, the joistick for focus points, the non-tilting monitor, stabilizer on the sensor, as for software, does not chase the eyes, does not have Focus Stacking, does not get to 102,000 iso and many other things. But for what she owns is a machine lady, the end result, which is what we should all aim for, to me satisfies 100%. I mainly do studio photos, easel use or monopod because holding it for several hours I fatigue and then tremble, which does not happen to me with the Fuji X T1, but it is another speech. I use it with the 50mm 1.8 G, the 85mm 1.8 G and the 24-120 4 G, the latter almost never in the studio. I love the b/n and if imodifyed with this age-changemachine comes out something remarkable like this (https://www.juzaphoto.com/galleria.php?l=it&t=3199113). I am very satisfied but it is not said that I will not switch to a lighter body that can give me the same type of file, but if it must be an ml, that it is really light, otherwise I keep the D3x
sent on 21 Marzo 2017 Pros: File prepared in jpeg without pp, rugged camera body, great af, ISO 1600 seal. Cons: He suffers the tungsten lights, not great rear display. Opinion: Excellent machine despite being in 2008, produces fantastic files especially in the range 100 -400 iso that are in my opinion superior to the d800-D800E which also possess so I could compare them and at least in this range seem migliori.Il body then gives a feeling of solidity 'exceptional .Sotto the tungsten lights better to use the manual white balance as it suffers a bit' like all, needless to say, and 'heavy because it is a highly pro body. In short, overall a great machine.
sent on 20 Settembre 2015 Pros: Pro body and produces fantastic pictures Cons: To be able to exploit it has a 100% Life is not 'enough Opinion: In the end I managed to sell my whole kit format right body d2x macro 40 dx f.2.0 ZOMM 18,300 all strictly Nikon and I made the quantum leap 'I made her Majesty the Queen' Nikon D3X, boys nacchina. ..potrei use it to break the nuts as much e'robusta and powerful ... and then the picture that turns out to 24 .5 MPs are fantastic and the format FF and 'another planet. Soddisfatissimo are my choice .Now I'm reading the manual but once I know 'not enough' to start to exploit it properly ...
sent on 11 Aprile 2015 Pros: Exceptional image quality. Impeccable construction, viewfinder and autofocus excellent and reliable, low noise for use in ISO 1600 and beyond. rn Cons: High price although well built. Opinion: Reflex very valuable despite the years of hard time competing with the most modern; better use for portraiture, studio work, landscape photography and everything you want to do, even for sports photo where you do not require a burst over 5 frames per second. The sharpness of the images is impressive as well with color and contrast optical adequate. Ease in obtaining good images than the D800. From 100 to 1600 ISO clarity of files it is unmatched !! Hotel is certainly one of the best FF SLR ever produced. SLR photographers for real, is to have in your kit. Highly recommended.
sent on 14 Settembre 2014 Pros: Files exceptional quality construction by reference, viewfinder and autofocus clean, excellent noise management in Jpeg, easily usable iso 1600 and beyond if necessary. The weight does not see it as a disadvantage, since that gives great stability especially when using long telephoto lenses. Cons: High price even if the substance is really great. Opinion: Despite his age, stands very well compared with the more modern competitors; finds its best use in studio and landscape photography without disdaining use in all of the circumstances in which you do not require a prolonged burst. The sharpness is extraordinary as well as color and contrast in optical coupled to appropriate. Greater ease in obtaining good images compared to the more modern d800 that require greater caution. 100 iso is practically perfect !! Definitely one of the best FF SLR ever produced. I consider myself very lucky to have found a copy in perfect condition at a price accettabile.rn
