Pros: sharpness, VR, AF-speed in most situations fast enough, WEIGHT!!

Cons: AF somtimes hunts in nervous backgrounds

Opinion: for me, this lens is a dream. After times with heavy 600/4 or bulky 560/5,6 this is the lens I can take with me wherever I want - long hikes, into the mountains, or...just out of the car window. You save many seconds just taking the camera plus 500/5,6PF, instead of lifting a heavy lens out of the window while "driving by". For hide-fotography or when a TC is an option, a 500/4 or 600/4 would be the better option - af is a little faster and the heavy lenses are more "think about what you shoot" and "concentrate on the target". While the 500/5,6 is a "run around and search and have fun" lens :-) Difficult to explain, but with the 500/4 fotography feels a little bit more serious ;-)

Pros: Sharp, lightweight, ease of use, VR, memory recall

Cons: ridiculous plastic lens hood, ridiculous tripod foot, blurred jittery in some circumstances

Opinion: INSANE optics, impressive quality compared to anything I've ever tried (I don't compare it to any f/4 FL since I've never tried them). Its lightness and compactness allows you to use it safely freehand for an hour in the park. The function keys are very welcome, minus the poor quality of the lens hood that breaks at the first blow, and the tripod mount that was not even a 70-200 f4 (immediately replaced with an arca swiss) It has retired my beloved 300 PF (also crazy for how compact, light and sharp), the blur is a bit nervous on backgrounds such as lawn and the like, normal on non-demanding backgrounds. At the moment it gives big smiles

Pros: Sharpness, AF speed, light weight

Cons: lens hood

Opinion: After a year from the purchase I can say that I am fully satisfied with this lens that has replaced the still valid nikon 200-500. Sharp even at full aperture and equipped with lightning-fast autofocus, I place it as a quality between the 200-500 F.5.6 and the 500 f.4 G series that I had but closer to the latter than to the zoom. The difference with the 500 f.4 is only noticeable in the quality of the blur and when the subject is at a considerable distance but otherwise the portability (it is mounted on a D5 in a 44x30x19.05 backpack) and the better AF motor compensate for these differences. Let's draw a pitiful veil on the lens hood that I have already had to change as it broke ...

Pros: Lightness and compactness, easy handling, image quality, impeccable construction, af speed, tropicalized.

Cons: Nothing really relevant

Opinion: Bought new several years ago for light releases, it is really excellent from every point of view, second only to superteles in terms of image quality, for the rest (portability, tilt, weight) it is unrivaled on reflex. It is also very good on "Z", perhaps even better than on reflex, excellent even at full aperture, excellent even with the 1.4x tc and more than good with the 1.7x, clearly losing brightness. You can also take it on trips in hand luggage on the plane without too many problems (already done more than once). On "Z" it essentially replaces both the 400mm f. 4.5 and the 600mm f. 6.3. It also holds up well to the 45mpx of today's megapixelated machines without problems. It has nothing to do with Nikon 80/400 or 200/500 zoomons, nor with those of third-party manufacturers, it is definitely on another planet. At today's prices it is a "must have".

Pros: Sharpness, lightness, bulk, MF speed.

Cons: Nothing

Opinion: I bought this lens three years ago as a replacement for the 500 f/4 which, given my age, had become uncomfortable and unusable especially in use without a tripod. Not to mention the itinerant hunting... The wait before the purchase was long as immediately after the release they were nowhere to be found. It was a total fall in love from the first viewing of the photos! I used it immediately on the D4s and now on the Z9 with adapter and with even more satisfactory results. Now I have ordered the 180/600 from the Z series. I don't expect the same sharpness but I am enticed by certain options that reserve these lenses for the Z9. We'll see the difference...

Pros: Lightweight, handling, sharpness, AF speed

Cons: a notch below the sacred monsters F4

Opinion: I've had a lot of Nikon F lenses now almost all sold, I've left the 500PF and the 300 F/2.8 vrII until now, I got the Z PF series and I hope that the 600PF will be as good as the old 500. The 500 PF coupled with the D5, the D850 and the 500 gave me great satisfaction if I used it well little, compared to the 400 f/4.5 z for me the 500 comes out as the winner

Pros: Lightness and compactness, image quality, impeccable construction, tropicalized. End of back pain.

Cons: Nothing important.

Opinion: I took it as a replacement for the Nikkor 200-500, mainly because of the lower weight and bulk. For the type of use (itinerant photographic hunting) it is definitely more suitable, also because I used the zoom almost always at 500mm, often also with the TC1.4III. This lens is giving me better results in all conditions. Only handicap, with the TC in low light conditions the AF becomes slow and imprecise, but this depends on the camera body (I have D850 and D810), and with the 200-550 it was worse. I do not find relevant, in my experience, the criticism of the tripod mount and the hood. The original Cordura case is unsuitable for transport. For cases where I transport it separately from the rest, I purchased a properly protective cylindrical case.

Pros: Footprint, weight, excellent optical quality

Cons: Price, hood, tripod mount

Opinion: Great optics, and said by one who for decades has cordially hated Fresnel lenses is all to say! Incredible portability, excellent optical performance in an absolute sense. Maybe mine will be a lucky specimen but in terms of sharpness it has very little to envy to the 500 FL, against which it loses more than anything else in bokeh. We are therefore talking about a very different championship than the one played by 200-500 or 80-400, and for this reason the price is justified even if high. Wielding it is still a pleasure, VR works wonders and you can shoot quietly freehand. The TC 14 is its natural companion, it loses a trifle to TA but already closing a stop turns out to be transparent. The AF is loose but maybe it's better that way, Nikon's AF engines are either slow or die early. I would not dwell on the hood, that it sucks is established, everyone wrote it. What really me off is instead the attack foot to the tripod: archaic, anachronistic and moreover poorly balanced, to be replaced immediately with an ark swiss foot. The successful upgrade consists in equipping our 500 with a nice lenscoat (the original US one, not the Easy Chinese covers ...). I don't know what else to say, I love this lens (with my little brother 300 PF is among my untouchables), I use it on a beautiful carbon gimbal with the D6 of which it is a natural complement, and every time it gives me a great lust ... Highly recommended, grade 10 laude!

Pros: Weight, blurry, af, sharpness.

Cons: Nothing

Opinion: Purchased for use with the d500 and to replace the sigma 150 600 contemporary. The differences are abysmal! I use it both from the car with bean bag and freehand for stray hunting. Responsive and very effective AF even on subjects in flight and in rapid movement, beautiful blurred, sharpness at the top and here you can see the difference from the most commercial zooms. Very satisfied! It's worth all the money it costs. Rating:10.

Pros: VR, sharpness, weight and transportability.

Cons: obviously not comparable to f4

Opinion: Really remarkable the transportability in relation to the focal length of the lens. Leaving aside the various super artifact or close-range shots that are on the net, my opinion is that the resolve of this lens is more than good, but not comparable to f4. I owned the 500 f4 ISII, the 500 f4 FL, and still own the Sigma 500 f4 OS. As sharpness and resolve, the 500 f5.6 PF is more or less comparable to the 500 f4 multiplied by 1.4x!

Pros: Weight

Cons: Weight

Opinion: It's my opinion: I say that my shots are mediocre so maybe I should not even speak but ..... From my point of view this telephoto objective is too light and this leads me to say that it has its own " delicacy ". Not that heavy telephotos aren't delicate, but I think they're more robust. For years I have been carrying a weight of over 3.5 kg on my excursions between the camera and 2 telephotos and I am fine with it. Not forgetting the mountain sack of about 6/7 kg (I am thoughtful).

Pros: Lightness.....

Cons: Lens hood.....

Opinion: Used effectively with D850 and Z7. For those who have problems carrying weights, there is nothing better; you take it everywhere and you shoot easily freehand; taken in place of the 400 2.8, one of the best Nikon optics ever, without obviously having the claim to get the same quality and sharpness, still reaching a level more than acceptable. Incomprehensible how a relatively expensive lens has such a poor lampshade. Overall recommended.

Pros: Sharpness Mf the stabilizer and especially the weight.

Cons: Paraluce could improve it given the cost of the lens.

Opinion: As soon as it came out and it was love at first sight, I used the Nikon AF-S 500mm f/4 E FL ED VR sold and immediately bought the Nikon AF-S 500mm f/5.6 E PF ED VR. I use it especially in the mountains over 2,000m above sea level for its handling and weight. The AF does not miss a beat and also the VR uan real bomb. I use it with the Nikon d500 and the x1.4III. Congratulations Nikon.

Pros: Portabilities, sharpness, speed of focus.

Cons: It is a 5.6 so, especially with little light, sometimes, you struggle with focus especially when used with mirrorless adapter. I would like to point out that this does not depend on defects of the lens that is spectacular, it is only a matter of how much light it lets pass and the fact that the adapter slows down the focus which, moreover, remains precise in all circumstances. On the D500 the lens is practically infallible even in the dark !

Opinion: I took thousands of photos with this gem, first only with D500 then with Z6 and adapter. Extraordinary lens for sharpness. If you then use the range limiter to zoom, the autofocus becomes instantaneous. Compared to a traditional zoom, 150-600 or 200-500, the sharpness at the edges is another layer. The portivity is extraordinary, with laughable weight. I tried for a while the Sigma 500mm F4, great lens of its own, but then considerations related to weight and footprint led me to choose the Nikon 5.6 PF. One of the most innovative products Nikon has put on the market for a long time. It is not cheap but: recommended without hesitation.

Pros: almost everything

Cons: paralights, short tripod bracket.

Opinion: I recently bought this lens, I find it fantastic with a superlative sharpness already fully open, has a fast and precise autofocus, light even after a day you do not feel tired, I use it on the nikon d850 and I'm very happy, tried with the tc 1.4 III it doesn't lose anything in sharpness, it becomes a f8 so it takes a lot of light, the autofocus remains good, it improves if we use the limiter.the major defects are in the lampshade too thin and plastic, and in my opinion also the bracket for the tripod and too short for the tripod that for hand transport, high price but quality is excellent, rating 9.5 for the flaws I mentioned, otherwise this" optics for quality deserves 10.

Pros: Weight

Cons: none of the relevant

Opinion: As I wrote for the little brother's review the 300mm f4 AND PF ED VR this 500mm f5.6 is finally the ideal solution for long hikes in the mountains thanks to its low weight. Obviously not as bright as a 300 mm f 2.8 (which I owned) but if you want more in this area the price and weight rise exponentially and therefore to be taken into account according to your pockets and your needs. I use it with D850, satisfied with the purchase!

Pros: Very light, compact, very well balanced, extraordinary sharpness even at full aperture and fast AF

Cons: Lens hood of questionable quality taking into account the price of this lens that is not given, VR sometimes noisy but effective

Opinion: I use it with great satisfaction both on FF bodies (Nikon D5, D850, Z7) and on the Nikon D500, with which it makes perfect torque, for handling and balance. With the TC14E III the quality remains excellent, pity that you lose a stop and so if the light conditions are not optimal, you are forced to work with higher ISOS. The fuzzy is very good although not comparable to that obtainable with a classic tele that does not use Fresnel lenses. The fact of being able to use it freehand (weighs like the 70-200) with ease for hours is worth only the price, especially since the overall quality is very high. Let's not forget that on a DX body like the D500 is worth 750mm and, with the TC14 even 1050mm). Ultimately I am very satisfied with this supertele! The VR is effective and with static subject you gain up to 4 stops.

Pros: Sharpness, autofocus, weight and manageability

Cons: The stabilizer is sometimes a little noisy

Opinion: I bought this lens after watching and covered the few American reviews I found, but in the end I think I made a very good purchase, even though the weather was lousy I did some test shots and I was impressed by the sharpness of the lens, but especially from its autofocus, coming from the 200-500 is really another planet and, for what little I used the 500 F4 seems to me very similar as an answer. You lose a stop compared to the older brother and of course you can detach a little ' less the subject from the background, but instead you take pictures from impossible positions and you can keep it in hand with a facility unthinkable, I have not yet got to make an exit In the mountains but I think traveling 10 Km with this lens will be much more enjoyable than before. The autofocus in some situation seems a little noisy, if you really want to find a flaw. The price is not very low, but I think it is worth them all and anyway it is always a much more affordable figure of 500 F4

Pros: Sharpness Mf the stabilizer and above all the weight

Cons: The lens hood is very plasticous could make it a more professional given the price

Opinion: They handed it to me two days ago and immediately, even if the weather is not the best, I already took a hundred photos and really bewitched me. Mf as fast as its older brother, versatile and lightweight which means a lot for those who want to photograph wildlife during a walk. The final verdict is very very interesting only one flaw in the price that is too high. Soon I will publish some photos taken with my Nikon d850.

Pros: Handling/Weight, AF, Stabilizer, Blurred, Sharpness

Cons: The only flaw I found at this lens is the excessive noise of the stabilizer and the Price

Opinion: That was the lens I was waiting for! I gave away the still great Sigma Sport, but this lens, combined with the D4S, is really balanced to the maximum, you forget about the easel in the photo hunt. As mentioned in the pros, the speed of the AF is really very good, which improves using the limiter. The stabilizer allows you to descend with the times to remarkable values (photographed a sunset at 1/80 freehand without support). Crisptoness to TA great. The only defects, as mentioned, are the price, which I still consider excessive (in my opinion the correct price could be around 3k) and the noise of the stabilizer, in fact in the sessions in the shed I keep it off because it annoys me! In any case I consider myself really satisfied with the purchase. Nikon made a really good product
