sent on 05 Settembre 2023 Pros: Colors and of course the blurred ... Cons: The blurred in defocus unmanageable, not having fully understood it in use Opinion: Purchased in the remote 1996 and used both on the 90X and on the F5, I could not make me like it in its specificity of use: I always ended up using it without correction (distortion, better) and therefore smooth was a decent 105 but at the price of a rank lens. Light, well made, a Nikon as expected. To make me reconcile, the thieves took care of it and took it away. Amen.
sent on 04 Settembre 2023 Pros: Quality, yield, construction and obviously blurred Cons: AF not always precise (solvable with mirrorless Z series obviously manual focus) Opinion: It is a very particular lens (like the older brother 135mm), I do not recommend the use to those who are beginners must know how to use and understand, for those who love portraits and blur is a lens that despite its years also holds the 45mpx of modern machines. It has its own poetry and complexity, it can also be used with AF of old SLRs, but frankly I am better with modern mirroless for the simple reason that at very open apertures from f / 2.8 to f / 2 it has very little depth of field and the f / b focus is always around the corner, while with the focus peaking of the ML you can also use at f / 2, unique in its kind with the DC ring (defocus control) that you can intervene by increasing or decreasing the focus in front or behind the subject, moreover using it in the wrong way deliberately (not always) but sometimes you can pull out special effects that make the portrait unique, personally owning them both, I think that in 105 you notice more the DC effect of the ring even if it is easier to get defects such as aberrazzioni or images more Soft. It is definitely a lens that if you try it you will not leave it anymore, certainly it is for a more studied and posed photography, the sharpness is of a high level, below f / 2.8 it softens a little but for those who take it for its blurring it is a softness that does not mind at all, and after more than 10 years I still keep it with me in my kit. As for the blurred is really creamy, and very pleasant, usable also in other areas beyond the portrait type landscape, still life etc. Highly recommended, maybe a little more versatile than 135mm. final result passed with flying colors also in 2023 lens that must at least be tried!
sent on 31 Gennaio 2022 Pros: Particular Optics, colors, construction Cons: Af in the use of de focus. Opinion: For years I was considering the purchase of a DC nikon, undecided between the 135 and the 105 also having the 180mm I opted for the smallest for versatility and perspective vision: the scheme of the 2 DC nikon is practically that of the nikon 85 1.8D (from various readings on the history of these optics) and in fact the color rendering is the same but the project is more accurate and can be seen from the materials used, from the fact that a TA has no particular chromatic aberrations if not a little coma up to 2.5 (something common to almost all af-d and this is no exception), however from the first shots this lens does not suffer from purple fringing like my 85 in contrast areas; 20mm difference compared to the 85 make the blurred more creamy and decisive to ta and you notice, as you notice the weight of the lens a little more important in the materials used; the de focus is very particular... it is a matter of varying in an "incorrect" way the spherical aberration, in the front position it tends to blur the foreground more and become hard in the blurred behind and to blanch a little, rear on the contrary does the exact opposite, obviously this behavior is not exempt from problems such as accentuated coma (in the maximum excursion of the very accentuated de focus) and the af calibration that is missing with front and back focus in the out-of-specification use limiting in fact the use in manual focus or accepting the out of focus used in af.
sent on 23 Febbraio 2019 Pros: Simply Spectacular Cons: Poorly digestes AF of the d610 Opinion: So I've wanted this lens ever since I bought my first Nikon, after so many years I found a used one at a fairly new honest price. Sharpness, incisiveness three-dimensionality construction just plain proud. But alas not having AF ultrasonic you have to rely on AF of the Reflex and here that begin the pains. Then when it works all in all and fast and accurate but alas at a time was Impallava and I had to continually change framing to make it focus. Once I risked (if there had not been my partner) to miss an important shot in a wedding is not a pleasant experience. I tried it and tried it but it seems to be a problem with these lenses with DC in fact I replaced it my despite with 85 1.4 D that works instead a marvel. If you use it on a PRO SLR instead I assure you that you will not have problems and I highly recommend it.
sent on 11 Marzo 2018 Pros: sharpness, particular focus, construction, aperture ring aperture, maneuverability Cons: I can not find it, it's worth all his money Opinion: Taken used, like new, with packaging, etc., I use it on Nikon Df with great satisfaction and not only in the portrait, field in which excels for the ability to make very particular focus once understood, through experiments, the operation of defocus. And in fact, even in the landscape ensures a superb yield in terms of sharpness (even at the corners), transparency of the shadows, color rendering (that typical of the Nikkor). The best performance is between f: 2.8 up to 8. The construction is excellent, of other times, nothing to do with the sensations provided by the materials that today go for the greater on AFS optics. For me, which almost always shot in manual, the ring of the diaphragms is a pleasure. Highly recommended.
sent on 09 Dicembre 2017 Pros: Sharpness, precision, image quality, speed of focus Cons: At the beginning it is difficult to understand the function of Defocus Opinion: Objective that I think is suitable for different photographic uses. I've been trying it for a few months for Still Life and Food, and I have to admit that it gives me more satisfaction than other so-called "food or stiil life" lenses. The only thing that is not easy to understand at the beginning is the special defocus function. The construction is excellent and on the d500 you leave well to handle.rnPrice - Quality ... scondo me right! There are lenses around that have a price totally disproportionate to what is then the quality. On this high-end lens the price is worth.rn
sent on 17 Settembre 2017 Pros: Strong construction ergonomics also pleasing to the touch. Cons: insufficient compared to what I expected. Opinion: One of the first goals I have used in the past with the Nikon D3, along with an AF-S 14-24mm f / 2.8 G ED. For me it was a great disappointment at the time, perhaps because I had too many expectations about that. At the same time, I also had a Canon kit (1D MK IV and 5D Mk II) with several L optics including 85 f 1.2 and 135 f 2, I expected 105 F 2 Defocus Control, wrong, something like a middle ground that would do it it looks like a potty at the yield of Canon 135 f2 L and 85 f 1.2 but I was illusing. From the very first results I immediately realized that the approach was unpredictable for both the focal length completely different from that of its intrinsic quality that I am very disappointed with. She gave me flat pictures, with no depth of volume and a blur that I could never let it go down. rnrnVisually direct comparison with more powerful optics has played an important role in forming my personal opinion on this lens, which I find unjustifiably exquisite with respect to what is in gglad to return.
sent on 16 Settembre 2017 Pros: Constructive and optical quality Cons: It should be used from f / 2.2 (I use it on D810) Opinion: At f / 2 is not great, 2.2 things change completely and becomes clear, at 2.5 even better, I usually use it at 2.5. Given its long focal length and the absence of VR combined with a AF that is very good but not comparable to the new AFs (professional ones) it is quite difficult to have perfectly still images in poor lighting conditions but when it stops is crazy, sharp not in the way of new goals because it is not ultra-contrasted so it is a "latent sharpness" however with minimal post processing it comes out all and really amazes. The blur is soft and the soft colors of this lens create in the blurry areas of the beautiful pastel colors, the light spots come bellerrimi! I use it almost exclusively for ceremonies and even in those only in conditions where the subjects are fairly static. rnrnE 'a portrait optic, this is undeniable, but used for closed diaphragm views is a blade, af / 11 has a quality%3B superlative, is practically free of vignetting and optical distortions are zero. Is not an optician for every day? No, it is not at all. Have you tried other 105 unstable and believe they are stupid and think you can use it in critical light without any problem? You are terribly wrong, this does not forgive any mistakes in your own, or in the car! But when the pictures that come well repay all the effort they need to accomplish them. Not recommended for those who do not have much experience and are highly advised to others, one of the optics you have to have. RnrnThe defocus ... bah, never used unless for testing.
sent on 27 Novembre 2016 Pros: Made in Japan, Sharpness at the center already f.2, boken, AF precision, colors, solid body from the ring to the lens hood integrated metal Cons: AF should be made a fine adjustment in the car, then it's perfect Opinion: arrived two years ago with a trade-in for a Sigma 70-200, immediately amazed me the solid construction as old Nikon School, unfortunately I used initially only f2.8, convinced it was a bit 'soft, then I calibrated +7 af fine and there only positive note is the favolosornsinceramente Defocus never use it, but most do not know usarernBelllissima lens, rimarraà life in my kit
sent on 21 Agosto 2016 Pros: Flawless construction, built-in lampshade, excellent sharpness, but "discreet", not as aggressive as some newer optics. Cons: Needs careful focus calibration. Activating the defocus unfortunately the sharpness is also affected on the plane of m.a.f. Opinion: I used it earlier on the D700, and I loved it. Very sharp, but made "delicate", very pleasant, never "aggressive". The D750 I own now is much more demanding... and I struggled to find an acceptable fine-fire adjustment. I almost always use it with the defocus in a neutral position (disabled), because some home tests have shown that the drop in sharpness is conspicuously noticeable even on the focus plane. I have no idea if it's a common feature... or if it is a problem of the specimen in my possession. I'm going to have to know... UPDATE.i.A. I recommend, to those who plan to buy it, to try it on their own camera, in order to ascertain the presence of front /Back focus. For this reason I highly recommend its use on cameras with fine calibration, since otherwise any problems mentioned above, are difficult to solve even at the service centers (reliable source: technician of Nital origin) Fortunately the specimen I currently have is perfect. even on the D850, very "demanding" camera.

sent on 29 Giugno 2016 Pros: defocus, good even at room temperature, built-in hood, excellent portrait lens, solidity. Cons: It requires practice defocus but is used well without. Opinion: With 135 are the only lenses that allows to fade back and forth to soggetto.rnMeglio close the iris with defocus to keep incisività.rnForse a bit long as the focus on portrait, a 85 would be better but having used not rimpiango.rnSolido and well fact, used to be a bargain. A little slow happen in my opinion.
sent on 22 Aprile 2014 Pros: Excellent sharpness, strength, brightness. In addition, the Defocus Control, although I have not used much. Cons: I can not find fault. Opinion: At the time I preferred to His Majesty the 85mm 1.4. I have not ever regretted it because I consider it excellent, especially in the portrait. Over time, the price has remained stable, while 85 reached high prices. Joyful Mysteries of the market. A DC off, has excellent sharpness, a real blade. Another strength is its color rendition. And then the robustness: no plastic, only metal. Nevertheless, it is not heavy.
