sent on 17 Marzo 2026 Pros: Image quality, quietness, discretion, invisibility. Effectiveness of the interview with Apple devices (Fotos). From fw 4.0, convincing autofocus and increased overall responsiveness. Sensor that grants decent crops when needed (at these levels of quality it's a compelling option) Cons: Only one SD slot; I would prefer that the video mode was not settable from the touch-screen (indeed, that it was not there at all). It costs a lot, but you know. Opinion: Previously I had the Q2, which I already thought was perfect for many of my photographic genres. With the Q3, and especially after the fw 4.0, you appreciate a decidedly more ready and responsive autofocus, even if not at the levels of the Canon RF kit I own. As evident as it is, it is a camera dedicated essentially to reportage-street photography: you can't notice it, it has a retro look that doesn't intimidate anyone, it's very quiet, with a minimum of practice it can be framed without the need for a viewfinder or display, focusing in hyperfocal. However, the stellar quality of the Summilux also allows you to easily take home shots of landscapes, architecture and even portraits, especially using the lens at maximum aperture. You can wear it around your neck all day without musculoskeletal consequences, you can recharge it with a USB cable (although I prefer the double mains charger) and the use of the Fotos application is incomparably more efficient than solutions from other brands. Especially when traveling, with an iPad in the evening it is convenient and easy to view on a large screen, select the best shots and delete the others without even having to turn on the Leica. The "macro" function obviously does not allow high RRs, but "in the field" is enough for convincing details (between the minimum of m.a.f. and the possible small crop in post). At any distance and aperture, the lens is prodigious: from the 24mpxl of the first Q to the current 60 you don't feel the slightest drop in quality. This is no small thing. Battery life can certainly be improved, and the last fw gives an annoying warning when using the scl4 battery instead of the scl6. But the Q3 works perfectly all the same, except maybe in video mode, which I really don't care about. Compared to the Q2 it loses the "panoramic" function that I sometimes used to get panoramic jpgs on the fly; however, it is not a drama, it is better to always use the DNG and stitch later, with the Mac. The crop: I used to demonize it. Even today most of the shots have the native frame of 28mm, which is very congenial to me; however, with such a generous sensor and such a high-performance lens, a crop up to the equivalence of 35 or even 50mm "works", it does not flatten and is not perceived as a force.
sent on 16 Marzo 2026 Pros: Lens, sensor, DNG versatility, firmware 4.0 Cons: Paint, some aspects of firmware 4.0 Opinion: I start with the December 2025 firmware update 4.0 because it changed many things about the machine's behavior. Now the autofocus is decent, in some cases even good, there is recognition of people, animals and objects, the clickable icons on the screen are a great convenience. The freezes of 2023-2024 are a memory. On the other hand, the new firmware has introduced custom profiles that must be set for some functions. For example, I don't like that peaking, if activated, is now visible even with autofocus (a case that can be deselected through personal profiles, on YouTube mathphotogtapher explains how to do it). Another important new feature introduced by the firmware is the speed with which the machine wakes up from standby, an operation that it now performs in a shorter time, also allowing energy consumption to be reduced. Basically, there are many other positive aspects that were already present on Q3 before the update. The lens is wonderful for sharpness, microcontrast, colors and then the control to switch from manual focus to AF is the most practical there is. The dynamic range of the sensor is remarkable, I use it at 36 megapixels. The central shutter is a blessing for those who use the flash but also for the silence of the shutter. The result is extremely workable and usable DNG files up to ISO 12,800. On the other hand, a downside, but for many it's personality, is that the paint on the corners of the car and on the lens rings tends to come off with use in some places. The Leica Q3 costs a lot, it is limited for different types of use but it is a very effective tool that gives joy.
sent on 22 Febbraio 2026 Pros: Extraordinary image quality, punchy 60MP and 28mm sensor, solid and compact construction, very workable RAW files with great dynamic range and good resistance at high ISO. Cons: Very high price, autonomy can be improved. Opinion: For me, the Leica Q3 is, to date, the best compromise between "serious" image quality and the camera that you want to always carry with you. The 60 MP sensor, combined with the 28 mm f/1.7, gives me files that I can work with as I did with the reflex kit, with a wide dynamic range and crop margin that basically makes me forget that I don't have other lenses. It's not perfect: the autofocus does its job but it's not a sports machine, the buffer isn't infinite and the fixed 28 imposes limits on you that you have to accept and "exploit" creatively. But it's a camera that disappears in your hand, simple, linear, quick to use, with a file that holds up well what I do in Lightroom: more than an exercise in technology, it's a tool that makes me photograph more and better, and this is absolutely worth the price for me.
sent on 21 Maggio 2025 Pros: Viewfinder, display, autofocus, menu, image quality, video Cons: At the moment none Opinion: I used Q2 for a long time and finally made the leap... The Leica Q3 represents an important evolution from the already excellent Leica Q2, combining Leica's signature classic aesthetics and build quality with a number of technological upgrades that make it an even more powerful tool for demanding photographers. Improved image quality The jump from a 47.3MP sensor (Q2) to a new 60MP BSI CMOS full-frame sensor in the Q3 delivers a higher level of detail, ideal for large-format prints or cropping without significant loss of quality. In addition, the sensor supports pixel binning for better low-light performance. Updated viewfinder and display The Q3 introduces an improved electronic viewfinder (EVF) with a higher resolution and smoother refresh rate. But the real revolution is the new tilting rear display, finally present on a Q, which greatly improves flexibility when shooting at ground level or overhead, while maintaining the minimalist and refined design. Faster and more accurate autofocus Thanks to the hybrid system with phase, contrast and depth detection, the autofocus of the Q3 is significantly faster and more reliable than that of the Q2. This is especially useful for street photography or moving subjects. Connectivity and workflow The Q3 is also much more modern in terms of connectivity: it includes USB-C, HDMI, Wi-Fi 5GHz and supports tethering and direct charging via USB. This also makes it perfect for professional photographers working in the studio or on the go. Improved video On the video front, the Q3 also takes a leap forward: it supports 8K recordings and has a more complete video interface than the Q2, making it also suitable for hybrid photo/video content. In summary The Leica Q3 not only retains everything that made the Q2 a beloved camera – exceptional image quality, bright f/1.7 optics, premium construction – but improves it from every technical point of view. It's an ideal choice for those looking for a high-end full-frame compact, with modern performance but the classic photographic spirit.
sent on 20 Aprile 2025 Pros: Excellent lens, central shutter, color rendering, optical quality of the viewfinder, control ergonomics Cons: Viewfinder electronics not up to par, no grip, in general, slow electronics and not up to date with the competition Opinion: It is an excellent machine in general, especially thanks to the quality of the lens and the ergonomics of the controls. In aperture priority, it is as immediate as an M. Even the fixed lens is not a defect as long as the camera is used as it was designed: travel, reportage, street. Unfortunately, as always at Leica, we have to deal with a long series of frankly incomprehensible choices starting from the lack of a grip and non-current electronics. The ignition time is very long, the viewfinder, excellent in bright light, drops, to the eye, below 20 fps as soon as the light decreases, the optical stabilization is stopped at 2015, the autofocus, even if improved compared to the Q2, is still much lower than the Japanese. A Leica, for better or for worse.

sent on 07 Ottobre 2024 Pros: Immediate and very fun to use. Excellent lens and sensor. Best mobile APP of all. JPG nice and ready. Cons: I would have preferred to have two memory cards Opinion: Premise: photographer for pure and simple passion for over 40 years. I have had various Sonys, from the A7II onwards. I still have a Sony kit, new, complete and for me excellent. And here we are at Q3. I've been circling it since it came out. A full-frame compact with a better sensor than Sony, an excellent lens that performs well even at 1.7. Stabilized, not too heavy. There were many things that attracted me and reminded me of when I went around with my backpack and pashmina, through the alleys of the city that I still carry in my heart. On the other hand there was this 28 mm that I never chose as a fixed (I'm more 35) and also the fact that I never had a Leica before. Taken out of the box and taken in my hand, it gives me the feeling of being less heavy than it is. It is a bit unbalanced forward, due to the weight of the lens. It grips well, despite the fact that it doesn't have a grip and I didn't add it. With one hand under the lens, it becomes almost natural to hold it. You immediately notice the quality of the viewfinder and the display. I can compare it with Sony A1 and confirm that on the viewfinder they play it, while on the display this is clearly better. I really like having aperture ring, shutter speed ring and + dial button for ISO. The manual focus selector of the lens is right under the fingers and the macro mode is achieved with less than a quarter of a turn of the first ring. It makes me think that the lens was designed by "someone who photographs" and not just by a good engineer. The keys are few, enough for me. Everything becomes easy. After my usual shots in the house and garden (always the same, so much so that I compare the results almost by heart), I try it with the first trips. A small village on Lake Como, the city, the peat bogs of Sebino and some alpine panorama. Both the sensor and the lens are excellent. The Summilux is very clean even at TA (1.7) and this made me shoot in the evening with ISO100 and still safe shutter speeds. I appreciated everything about the sensor, including the pixel resampling. I can confirm that at 60/36/18 the images are always beautiful, obviously the possibility of cropping changes. The frames are fun to use but also very useful for me. I often use the 35mm one which helps me to compose in the style of my favorite focal length. On Lightroom you see the DNG in development cropped but it's still intact if you want to change anything. The JPG comes out as expected with the crop. Perspective control is a clever feature, I've tried it with a couple of churches and it's easy to use. There is more that I liked, but I stop and think: is it possible that there are so many idiocies and inaccuracies on this machine?
sent on 29 Luglio 2024 Pros: Many reasons Cons: I don't see any Opinion: Because I liked the car. It is true that the big news of the Q3 are the 60 mpx sensor, the zoom frames that reach 90 mm. and the mobile display. But there is more. First of all, the grip in the hand gives a sense of stability and the mobile display does not alter the aesthetics of the machine. Then immediately an impression of sweetness and silence in activating the shutter button. Again: photos taken with 60 megapixels at 75 and 90 mm. they have an excellent rendering and even seen in the Mac and enlarged to 100% they are very good. Then the impression is that of a car improved in many details. For example: it also allows you to take square photos that the Q2 did not provide; The washer on the top right that in Q2 was very hard, in Q3 has the right softness; the two (instead of one) buttons at the top center allow you to set the choice of frames for zooming and locking the exposure; The lens cap fits well and does not come off. The possibility of shooting with variable resolutions seems excellent to me; I would definitely reserve the 60 Mpx for 75 and 90 mm photos., for the rest I would think of 36 Mpx, but I'll see. The sharpness and color rendition are excellent. In a nutshell, I would say that the Q3 is the same car as the Q2 but with a surprising amount of improvements. The mobile display is a high factor of noticeable improvement....
sent on 27 Maggio 2024 Pros: File quality, compactness, color quality, ease of use. Cons: inaccurate tracking system, unergonomic optical viewfinder (light easily enters during shooting...), only an SD slot, cursor buttons instead of joysticks Opinion: Purchased in March '24, in three months I had the opportunity to try it thoroughly. I immediately bought the "trigger" that adds grip to the camera when you shoot with one hand and that I recommend to everyone. It's exciting to realize the quality of shooting in such a compact camera for someone like me who has always shot with reflex and mirrorless cameras. Ideal for those who want to move among people indiscreetly, and at the same time guarantee a great quality of shot for the rest. The "fixed" 28mm was a great novelty for me that led me to get much closer to the subjects while having a lot of fun. The programmable keys available are very practical and easily customizable, and depending on your needs, everyone can change quickly. Although the possibility of shooting with crops preset at 35, 50, 75 and 90mm has been introduced (it seemed interesting to me...) in reality the function is not as practical as you might think: better to crop in post. I hope they improve this function as well as the tracking ones with the new firmware... I thought I'd use it for a trip to Japan and then resell it, but instead I'm holding on to it, and that's !!

sent on 26 Maggio 2024 Pros: File quality, sensor, ergonomics, ease of use, lens, autofocus, use with flash Cons: A "freeze" every now and then. A certain slowness in starting and starting from standby Opinion: The qualities of the camera are known and punctually verified: construction, ergonomics, ease of use, lens, menu, app (not only for the Q3), autofocus, tilting screen (for me), very silent mechanical shutter. The first thing that struck me about the Q3, however, the one that made me say "wow", was the workability of the DNG files, or the sensor: spectacular. Recovery of shadows, highlights, noise quality, colors, microcontrast. A pleasure to open files in Camera Raw (which unfortunately does not have the correction of the Summilux 1.7, but with the Summilux M it is fine for distortion). I use it, mostly, at 36 mega and I feel very good. The other aspect I want to emphasize is the use with the flash: being a camera with a central mechanical shutter you can do interesting things at high shutter speeds without the need for hss. For my type of photography, the combination with the LightPix Labs M20, or Q20 II, is great. Also with the latest firmware 2.03 the autofocus (I come from years of Sony) has improved even if I have used it occasionally. Out of about 3,000 shots taken in five months three times I had the problem of the camera blocking which was solved by extracting and putting the battery back on after waiting about ten seconds, Certainly the 28 mm must be evaluated very well (in doubt I recommend a ride of a few months with a Ricoh GR III); You can also cut in post but the focal length is demanding about the composition but permissive working in hyperfocal. Putting its qualities together, the Q3 is a unique tool, provided that Sony, already having the sensor at home, does not decide to make an RX1R III.
sent on 03 Febbraio 2024 Pros: Viewfinder, LCD, AF, Sensor, Design Cons: AF can be improved, viewfinder that shoots a lot in low light Opinion: As the owner of many Leica M and the first Q, this is certainly a big step forward for the whole ecosystem. Nothing new on the lens front that is always excellent from every point of view, despite the fact that it is still the usual 24mm digitally corrected to about 28mm, much faster AF than the previous one (inherited from Panasonic S5II) but still far behind Sony, so to speak. On the other hand, this kind of camera should be enjoyed for its relatively slow nature that helps to weigh each shot. EVF and LCD viewfinder improved a lot but as soon as the light is low everything becomes jerky (the 120fps, when set manually, is obtained only in broad daylight otherwise in low light conditions it can even reach 10fps at a glance). With new firmware (2.01) AF and power-on time has been improved. In general I am very satisfied, being used to the pros and cons of this object which, if used in the right way, turns the cons into further advantages. The sensor, apparently derived from Sony, is excellent in every respect and the stabilizer has been improved compared to Q and Q2, but not yet reaching the levels of Sony and company. The battery drops quickly in "normal" use but guarantees those claimed 350/400 shots (always take two). The USBC charge is excellent, for me the wireless one is not useful as well as the inexpensively expensive accessories to be able to take advantage of it. With the original charger, the charge takes place in an exaggeratedly slow way: I hope everything will benefit the life of the batteries themselves, given the cost of 180e each. If a certain type of photography is what you love (reportage, ambient portrait, street photography) this is a possible definitive camera and the typical Leica user experience is always there.
sent on 09 Giugno 2023 Pros: Robustness, focus, colors, easy handling. Cons: Nobody apart from the price Opinion: I had the opportunity to try it for an hour thanks to the Leica Store in Florence, it was love at first contact. The camera body returns a feeling of robustness and quality. The summilux 28mm 1.7 now has no secrets, it is an exceptional optics, beautiful colors and no chromatic aberration. The 60 Megapixels are really many, maybe too many for my type of use. The tilting screen goes a bit out of the style of the brand, but it is really comfortable and allows shooting from new points of view for a Leica, like ground height. The buttons behind are minimal but there is everything you need, compared to Q2 they have all been moved to the right so as to use only one hand to photograph and manage the controls. They did a really good job, but the Leica quality is charged.
sent on 01 Giugno 2023 Pros: SL viewfinder, new sensor and processor, dual focusing system, possibility to choose between three file sizes, wileres charging, excellent tilting monitor. Cons: Nothing Opinion: I was among the first to have the Q2e also to have the Q3, I absolutely do not regret the Q2 (beautiful), I shot a whole day with the Q3 for Burano and I was really enthusiastic, I think its new handle makes it very ergonomic, in addition to allowing fast charging, the connection with Leica Fotos has also improved. I will take it with me on all my trips, I will test it well, but for now, I am very happy to have it. Value for money, great.
sent on 30 Maggio 2023 Pros: None in my opinion compared to q2 Cons: tilting screen Opinion: Tested for an hour at the Leica Store. As a Q2 owner I can tell you that I did not find any improvement to justify the switch. Indeed I can tell you that from the point of view of design, the tilting screen is an eyesore I did not like. They added wireless charging, let's say that in my opinion it does not serve much, they put an increased battery, but the battery of the Q2 was already enough. In conclusion, after seeing the files in the evening on the PC, I can say that in my situation it makes no sense to change, I prefer the Q2 in everything, which in my opinion is splendid.
