Pros: Excellent image quality, precise focus ring with long travel, solid construction, native tripod collar with Arca mount, excellent working distance.

Cons: Abnormal battery drain when left mounted on the camera

Opinion: I have been using this lens for almost two years, alongside my historic and trusted Canon EF 180mm f/3.5 L. I must admit that the Irix clearly surpasses it both in image quality and in the precision of the focus ring: the travel is very long and allows surgical control, ideal for the most rigorous macro. Already at full aperture the sharpness is surprising and around f/4.5 it probably reaches its maximum yield point; even when the diaphragm is closed, it continues to behave very well, managing the inevitable diffraction problems very well. The presence of the collar with native Arca attachment is a concrete advantage: it integrates perfectly with micrometric rails, a practically indispensable accessory for those who work in focus stacking. The 150mm focal length rating, combined with the minimum focusing distance of 34cm, allows you to operate at a comfortable working distance, reducing the risk of bumping into delicate subjects during setup preparation. Of course, being a lens without autofocus and stabilization, the tripod becomes almost mandatory to take full advantage of its potential. The only real flaw I found — also confirmed by another Canon user — is the abnormal consumption of the battery: if left mounted on the camera, it tends to discharge it within a few tens of hours even when the machine is off. Once you know the problem, just remember to remove the lens or battery to avoid unpleasant surprises. I keep the old Canon EF 180mm f/3.5 L in my kit just to have an autofocus option in the rare situations where I need a macro for faster and less planned shots.

Pros: Sharpness

Cons: Ring nut collects dust and pollen

Opinion: I am extremely satisfied with this lens, I have owned it for three years now, it offers sharpness and subtle details that are not indifferent. The construction is sturdy and elegant. The focus ring is excellent, precise and perfectly frictioned. The support ring is very practical. I have had in the past: the Canon 100/2.8 macro usm, the Sigma macro 180/3.5, the Kiron 100/2.8. Only the latter comes close to the Irix150/2.8, the others he eats quietly. I recently paired it with R6mark2, and here I had the unpleasant surprise that the system went haywire. I had it updated with firmware dedicated to official assistance in Poland, and it came back perfect in nine days paying only the shipping costs. Congratulations to Irix!

Pros: Construction, SHARPNESS

Cons: MF, but you know beforehand, no IS.

Opinion: I already had the Canon 100L and the Sigma 180 f3.5, excellent lenses, but I had read wonders of this 150. I found the used 150 (but it's new) at a price, I took it, and I took two photo sessions: lens with manual focus and without stabilizer, I use it strictly on a sturdy tripod, with micrometric head and millimeter slide, so the blur, if there is any, is due to the movement of the subject. I was impressed by the sharpness and the beautiful focus ring, very well done, much better than the other macros I have and that I have had, you can see that this one is just "designed" to be used with manual maf. Excellent lens that I recommend to those who are willing to use it ONLY for macro and ONLY on a tripod with head and shoe: I consider it impossible to use it freehand, but I took it only for macro, so for me perfect like this.

Pros: All

Cons: Nobody

Opinion: A few weeks ago Irix announced the Sony version of this lens, I who had been waiting for it for a long time did not miss it. There are 4 things I want from a macro lens. Image quality, delicate blur, durable construction and last but not least, the tripod ring. He has all these characteristics, and many more. I practice only macro photography and I have other optics for this genre, I will list a couple to make the comparison with the irix. My macro telephoto lens so far has been the Nikon micro 200 f4 AI, beautiful optics but at f16 it begins to lose sharpness, plus it stops at the 1: 2 magnification ratio. I also use the Sony 90mm macro, the blur of 90-100mm I do not like very much because it is not very delicate. Leaving this aside, the 90mm has a huge flaw, it does not have the tripod ring, which for me is indispensable. Every time I use it, if I have to switch from a vertical to a horizontal frame, I have to detach the camera from the tripod and hang it up to change position. This can be difficult in the wild and animals frightened by too much movement can run away. With the Irix I solved these problems, now all the features I need are finally enclosed in a single goal. The sharpness is excellent and remains constant up to f22, which is very useful for macros. It is quite heavy as I like it, the Sony bodies are always too small and the pair can become unbalanced, so I have always attached the battery grip and the grip becomes much larger and more comfortable. The focus ring is very long and allows you to reach magnifications of over 1:1 without the micrometric slide. I've been using it for a week, it's the perfect lens for me and it's giving me great satisfaction. The lens arrives well packed with a convenient carrying case supplied. Now the macro telephoto lenses are too ignored by the manufacturers, they continue to present the usual lenses between the zooms and fixed 1.2 hyperexpensive that do not serve me at all and have fed me up for a long time. For this I have to double congratulate Irix, who did not copy the others and produced this excellent macro unique in its kind that I had been waiting for a long time.

Pros: Sharpness, robustness, focus

Cons: Focus ring accumulates dirt, uncomfortable cap

Opinion: I bought this lens after seeing its potential on the net. At the moment I took a few pictures of it but it has already fully convinced me. I come from a Canon 100 f/2.8L Macro IS USM and in the past I have also used other emblazoned lenses. In macro photography, at least as far as I'm concerned, I find the pluses such as stabilization and autofocus completely superfluous, fundamental instead sharpness, resolution and control of manual focus, and this Irix is satisfying me in these aspects. It is a well-built, solid, sturdy lens, the ring is perfect and the hood does its job. A very good case is provided. What struck me most, is the focus ring: fluid, very long stroke and adjustable in hardness. This, as mentioned by others, allows a very precise control of the fire, often making the use of the micrometric slide superfluous. The step from the ratio 1:1 to 1:2 is really long. The same ring that strikes me positively, however, also affects me in part negatively. The plastic used, very soft, provides excellent grip, but accumulates a lot of dirt. After a few minutes of use I realize that it is full of halos due to the dust that "sticks" on the surface, so I am forced to use a cloth to clean it before storing it in the backpack or in its case. It is fussiness, but I would like to make it clear. Another thing I didn't like is the front cap. Really very uncomfortable the shape and position of the closing clips, so much so that I replaced it with a cap of a few euros.

Pros: Sharpness, blurry, value for money

Cons: At the moment I do not detect any

Opinion: From my point of view, I consider it to be one of the most successful lenses in its field. Totally manual (and for that matter on a macro lens that's okay) it returns vivid details of the subjects, as well as producing a noteworthy blur. The progressive focus lock ring is no small plus, which in some cases allows you to replace a micrometer slide.

Pros: BEST BUY property

Cons: Little advertising that the company does in Italy

Opinion: I folded on this lens after the biblical wait to get a laowa 100mm 2.8. In the end I jumped at the offer found on eBay of a gentleman French who sold it for about 370 euros, and I did not repeat it. It's STREPITOSA. I start by saying that I've had a lot of macro lenses (100 f2 zeiss, canon L, sigma 105-150-180-180 2.8, laowa 60 2.8, nikon 60-105-200 ), and I wouldn't be exaggerating in saying that this is the best of all. Of course I take into account the fact that it is a 150mm, which differentiates its use from a 60mm. The "best" is due to the analysis of the particularities and the general synthesis of these. Let's start listing them. The first is definitely the internal focus. A key feature to ensure adequate tropicalization, especially of a lens whose use will be predominantly "wild" (the same name dragonfly implies). The second is the size. 840gr for a lens of its category are very few. I sold the 180 2.8 Sigma precisely because of its abnormal size, which relegated its use to the easel only, which in certain macro contexts is not easy to use. This one is as big as a normal 85mm, with probably the front lens even smaller. The third is the presence of a dial that hardens the focus. Being a fully manual lens it is in fact necessary that the focus is as ergonomic as possible, and irix has studied this system that centers IN PIENO. Depending on our needs, we could in fact soften or harden the focus ring. This at very high magnification ratios, will allow us to have practically a micrometric slide embedded in the optics itself. Too bad only for the absence of millimeter indicators of distances on the barrel. It is true that the focus dial is perforated rubber, and therefore a minimum of reference we can still have it. Fourth feature is definitely the excellent optical quality. ACs are virtually non-existent, a result that had never before been reached by any macro lens above 105mm. The unnecessary sharpness to say is ready to meet sensors well over 50mpx in the range of openings between 4 and 8. The only flaw i can say is that the lampshade is not really granite, and how the case is perhaps too narrow (although welcome addition to the package ). The latter is made of very rigid plastic material, capable of absorbing moderate shocks. It is not (to make a reference) the classic Sigma case, which certainly would not be able to absorb a bump. Basically it's a lens that in my opinion on the 600 th is a best-buy. If it beats it with the laowa 100 2.8 (which sooner or later I will get ), which has from its an rr of 2:1, but a focal length of 100mm and an "internal zoom" not properly engineered.
