sent on 02 Agosto 2025 Pros: Construction, QI, arca-swiss tripod bracket, programmable buttons Cons: f/8, price, length Opinion: A very valid goal. Plastic construction but very good, internal zoom, WR, programmable buttons on the barrel, good IQ (much, much better than the 100-400), collar with arca-swiss bracket (finally, I would say). The AF could be better. For me this lens has 1 real negative aspect and two non-positive aspects (but that you have to swallow, given the choice in the Fujifilm X system): the real con is the price, 2000€ new is a lot for a lens that makes several compromises. First non-positive aspect: f/8; What can I say, in many situations it means ISO from 6400 upwards, on APS-C it is not the best. Second non-positive aspect: the length; and here I connect to the first, the lens is long, a lot, to the point of not being in an ICU medium of f-stop if not diagonally; At this point, in my opinion, you could have enlarged a little more even in diameter and do 5.6 over the entire range, so as to have twice the light (also because the diaphragm closes quite quickly when you start zooming). I'll keep it until the budget allows me the 500mm f/5.6, but I already know that it will leave sooner or later.
sent on 29 Marzo 2024 Pros: Price, weight, internal movement, fast and quiet AF, works with extended, good sharpness (for focal length) Cons: Bezel a bit hard after 400mm, few selector switches, usable only during the day Opinion: Excellent lens, with a surprising weight and size to be internal movement, tropicalized, stabilized. The L-shaped bracket already arcaswiss is convenient. Very fast, responsive and above all silent AF (tested with X-H2). I found colors and sharpness pleasant, the contrast is missing but it is corrected in post, it is not very engraved but it is easy to recover with Topaz AI (especially on birds where the improvement on plumage is resounding) the weight is very good for the type of lens (but being only for asp it is simpler). The very small diaphragm is the big limitation of this lens, if the light conditions are not optimal it forces you to go up a lot with the iso and working on APSC sensors the noise is more evident. The good thing is that the stabilizer is very efficient, so if the subject is stationary, you can stay lower with use and shoot slower without too much risk of blur. we have talked about it in more depth on our YouTube channel Theitalianmaker if you have the pleasure of learning more about this focal length.
sent on 09 Febbraio 2024 Pros: TA sharpness, internal zoom, AF speed, lens pan and balance, arcaswiss foot, weight Cons: Lack of stabilizer selector, distance scale selector makes little sense, blurry Opinion: I've been using this lens for about a year on XH2-XH2s cameras. Purchased mostly to make up for the need to multiply the 100-400 and for the internal zoom, which in my opinion is very performing in the BIF. Starting with the construction, it is well made, soft aperture ring at the right point, large zoom ring, great weight distribution and balance. It's quite solid, but you don't get the same perception of solidity as the 200f2 which turns out to be more solid and sturdy. The weight is a significant plus, swinging 900mm equivalent with only 1.6kg is no small thing, especially for birdlife in flight which makes tracking and tracking operations easier. This, alas, requires you to have a closed aperture (F8) with consequent always high ISO, often over 1600-2000 even in broad daylight. The sharpness is already high at TA, there is no need to close further, and even with subjects at a distance (air and light conditions permitting) you take home excellent detail. The AF speed is high thanks to the linear motor, combined with XH2s the lock on to the subjects is quick, this is an excellent combination for BIF. The arcaswiss foot made is beautiful, it can be removed very comfortably and of adequate length also for use as a carrying handle. Coming to the cons, the lack of the stabilizer selector is annoying, it requires you to use a dedicated button on the machine for the function, or enter the menu, or even create custom C1-C7 memory banks with stabilization active to speed up. The distance selector of maf has a range that does not make sense on a lens of this type, considering that it has the minimum distance of maf at 2.5m, the 5m-infinity step is too long, it was ideal 10m-infinity precisely for birds in flight. The quality of the blur is excellent, creamy and pleasant, but I included it among the cons as the detachment of the subject from the background due to the F8 aperture is not always clear, it is more difficult to isolate the subject in many situations. In conclusion, it is a very interesting and well-made lens for nature photography, you have 900mm that can be used for different subjects but especially birdlife. Unfortunately it doesn't shine in brightness and if you shoot often at dawn and dusk you end up with ISO too high for my taste. If I want to buy a single telephoto for nature in the Fujifilm panorama, I think the 100-400 is more suitable for the role of all rounder, with the possibility of covering more situations, this 150-600 is more oriented towards the BIF. Fujifilm is still waiting for a fixed bright long telephoto to come up with.
sent on 02 Marzo 2023 Pros: Finish, tropicalization, sharpness at all apertures, speed af, focus preset, internal zoom, quick release plate with profiles for Swiss ark system, low weight, adequate price Cons: Basically nothing, unless you want to attribute the lack of a fixed telephoto diaphragm aperture, which however would discount other dimensions and weights, objectively reducing its use only to fixed positions and / or the use of tripods. Not to mention the huge price differences (we are talking about an f4 of equal capacity a cost of 5/6 times that of the fujinon. Opinion: After a few weeks of use I got an idea about the undisputed qualities of this lens, the first of which is the sincerity of the project. Let me explain: as universally recognized I also find its excellent build quality, so as to make me amazed that someone may have qualified it as "plastic". Also brilliant is the quick release system of the tripod bracket, moreover with swiss ark mount, the best ever for operational use. The internal zoom is then a top-of-the-range choice, as well as the various buttons for the autofocus preset. It is a very sharp lens with good light conditions and perfectly calibrated for the use for which it was designed. As rightly observed by those who preceded me, the technology currently applicable in the photographic field shows objective limits, so we can not expect that at the maximum focal length (we are talking about 900 mm on APSC), which corresponds to 8 as a diaphragm, can give the maximum in the absence of adequate light, even if modern sensors are more permissive in terms of ISO sensitivity and the camera bodies much better stabilized. The comparison with the 100-400 (which I used for years) is then merciless in favor of the more modern "biancone": sharper on all focal lengths, 200 mm of greater "range", faster AF and better balance due to the internal zoom, especially if mounted on camera bodies equipped with battery grip. In a nutshell, a lens that keeps everything it promises. Well done Fujifilm!
sent on 23 Febbraio 2023 Pros: Weight, internal zoom, af speed, finish, full aperture sharpness, tripod collar Cons: new price, not F4 Opinion: I would have liked to pronounce myself more in the trying it even more but I read so many minchiate in the last review that I felt compelled to express my opinion about the lens in question. As construction the finishes are premium, the plastics used and the painting are from top models, just see the video during assembly worthy of a top-of-the-range red badge lens. The tripod bracket is very comfortable, when needed it loosens and takes off to continue photographing freehand. It's F8, you know before buying it you don't find out any time after, if you want to shoot in the dark without raising the iso is the wrong lens, I thought it was an obvious thing to report but it seems not. Compared to the 100-400 of which I had 3 copies in the past the construction is on higher levels, also as precision of zoom ring and focus, not to mention that the first has the barrel completely in plastic not really premium, more similar to the 70-300. As sharpness on a 40 mega pixel body there is no comparison in favor of this biancone. There are focus keys on the front, very convenient when used to return to a preset focus point. I use it on XH2 and as an autofocus it is fast and responsive, much more than on the 100-400. Obviously if you want the top performance better use it with an H2s. For me it is the definitive solution for birds in good light but now with the new cameras and denoising programs I do not see great problems to use it in most of the outputs, as long as you know what you are doing. I had the 200-500 nikon that I used on both D500 and D800 and it was an excellent zoom but bulkier and no better in terms of sharpness and versatility and it wasn't even tropicalized, I would never go back. I repeat for me it is an excellent lens for what it is, a relatively light super zoom to use more by hand than on tripods, I did not notice chromatic aberrations or purple fringe. Anyway I recommend it, on the used now is also reasonably priced . Hello everyone
sent on 22 Febbraio 2023 Pros: excellent sharpness, internal zoom (but now they have all zoommons) Cons: dark, plastic, pachydermic AF on pre-xtrans5 bodies Opinion: What can I say, total disappointment. Pulled out of the box, I immediately heard "cra", lifting it up. Settling noises of the body, which to define it plasticous is to say little. If it didn't say Fuji, I would have serenely thought of some Sigma lens from the early 2000s. I understand it does not belong to the professional series (although the cost of € 2000), but really, here we are at really mediocre levels. The Fuji 100-400 for example is another galaxy. For heaven's sake I do not doubt that the white color helps not to dilate in particularly hot environments, I do not doubt the weight that has gained, but here it is all plastic, at this point I buy a Tamron ... As image quality we are, you will split "the hair" to be honest, but unfortunately F8 feels and also a lot, and although the focal range is a lot on aps-c, at intermediate distances the blur is not rewarding, and you will always tend to work at 500 \ \ 600mm. When the light goes down you will not take pictures, you want for the opening, you want for the focal range, you want for the yield at high periclitante iso of the Fuji bodies, you want many things that sincerely make me think: at this point it is not convenient to buy a used d500 and a 200-500? I leave for last then the sore button, that is the autofocus, absolutely unsuitable and insufficient on pre-xtrans 5 bodies. Used on Xt-3 it was better to stay at home, in fact it accompanied me for a single outing before ending up on the market. Probably the usability on a body like the xh-2 is different, but does it really make sense to invest figures of this kind with all the competition there is? For heaven's sake, this zoom is definitely a welcome addition to Fuji's lens park and will make many people happy in the future, but right now it is a lens that needs a TOP body to be used, which for other brands it is not. Even on "entry level" bodies it is possible to enjoy the "zoommons" with pleasure, with sometimes questionable limits compared to the flagships with super-luminous canvases attached. The Sony 200-600 was mentioned, but I used it serenely with an a7r2, decidedly old body, without missing a beat. Clearly with the A9 it was another thing, but the shots were possible to take home even with the old a7r2, which I often did. With the xt-3 and the 150-600 instead, I really found myself going back and forth to photograph static subjects, a torture that made me return home after a few minutes.
sent on 05 Dicembre 2022 Pros: Tropicalized, zoom / internal focal range, very low weight for the category, just over 1600g, fast focus, fairly precise and totally silent, superzoom with clear optical rendering, sharp even at TA, generous tripod hook, color, built with first-rate material, respectable focal length 150-600mm (229-914mm equivalent on FF). Cons: Probably for some the f / 8 is reason to "cry scandal" from my point of view is irrelevant considering that the diaphragm closes so from 539mm to 600mm (809-900mm equivalent on FF). Opinion: It is a SuperZoom with incredible manageability despite its size, the excellent image stabilization system and the excellent final rendering of the file make it even more pleasant to use. Compared with other Superzoom such as Canon 100-500mm, Sony 100-400mm and Sony 200-600mm, just to name a few and that I got to use in unsuspected times, I would say that this Mr. Zoom (used with due care) has nothing to envy to the competition indeed, if we consider that the zooms listed above are used on FF systems my statement is more justified by the fact that the Fuji XF 150-600mm while working On the APS-C system does not highlight particular deficiencies worthy of note "this is obviously a purely personal opinion and based on the experience gained". The brightness is obviously not from fixed Supertele that above all to have one you have to donate a kidney but, as far as I'm concerned, it has enough brightness to allow you to make excellent shots even in low light conditions, obviously within certain limits! I managed to make freehand shots of birds sharp and without shake with times well below the safety threshold, obviously thanks to the flagship body aps-c "Fuji X-H2S" which certainly helps to further improve performance, on the other hand this optics is associated with this camera body of the latest generation is like saying bread and jam, Perfect combination! As for the construction quality, both the barrel and all the components do not disappoint and I can confirm with flying colors the excellent realization, you can appreciate the quality of the materials used both visually and to the touch as well as the extreme attention to detail. The color is very pleasant, a light and opaque gray / silver, out of the standards of the usual "Bianconi", the only discordant note perhaps is the hood, in my opinion it would have been better in color rather than black. PERSONAL CONCLUSION: In my opinion it is a lens designed mainly for wildlife photos in particular for birdlife, this does not mean that it can be used in other areas but, for birdlife I see this SuperZoom particularly suitable especially when we want to photograph small subjects such as birds at considerable distance. Analyzing more specifically the files produced by this lens, disabling the lens correction both in the camera and on Lightroom, I could see a slight chromatic aberration at TA in conditions of strong light contrast, easily solved in post-production or closing one / two stops. The vignetting is also present especially at long focal lengths (like almost all the Zoom that cover long focal lengths), to completely eliminate the phenomenon just close the aperture at f / 8 or correct in post-production, finally to be picky, you notice a very slight distortion at the minimum focal distance .... practically irrelevant. LAST thing, this beautiful SuperZoom as already mentioned in the Pros, already has an excellent sharpness at TA but reaches the apex from f / 8 to f / 11. Good shot to all!
sent on 22 Novembre 2022 Pros: relatively low weight, good optical yield at all focal lengths, portability, zoom that does not increase in length during focal range, tropicalization, workmanship and color Cons: low light at certain focal lengths Opinion: I have nothing to add to what has already been described by third parties. I am very satisfied with the choice also because I left Pentax aps-c for the manageability of the fuji and because a maxi pentax canvas (I do almost only photographic hunting) cost too much ... x which with this perspective I solved the problem of the long focal length of quality at a reasonable cost ... Greetings and good photos. Angel
sent on 04 Ottobre 2022 Pros: Sharpness, focus, internal zoom, pre-set keys and tropicalization. Cons: In some cases the diaphragm 8 for the rest nothing !!!! Opinion: I use the zoom with an XT4 and I must admit that Fuji has surpassed itself. Excellent focusing speed, excellent preset keys, has an image quality like the 100-400 but with the advantage of having greater focal range, the internal zoom system is fantastic. At the moment I can only talk about it well worth all the money it costs.
sent on 07 Luglio 2022 Pros: Lightness, tropicalization, internal zoom system, focus preset button Cons: The f8 for some can be a limit, unbalance of weights towards the front of the lens Opinion: Given that this is an opinion from "first impressions" after just a week of use, a first thing I appreciated about this new Fuji canvases are the weight and build quality in general. The lens is certainly more bulky than the 100-400 of Fuji, but still with a really low weight considering that it offers 200mm more. Also very convenient is the internal zoom system, which allows you to keep the size and weight distribution unchanged even at maximum focal length. In the first uses with X-T3 I still noticed, in freehand use, a certain imbalance forward that requires a bit of attention and stability when shooting at the limit of safety times, even if the stabilization seems to work very well. Sharpness and image quality do not disappoint and even when shooting with difficult backgrounds, such as foliage, the lens does not knead details. AF performance, for now tried only with XT3, good, but I am convinced that with subsequent firmware updates compatibility will improve (the firmware to make the 150-600 fully usable on xt3 was released in a hurry at the end of June, I do not exclude there may be subsequent improvements). As a sore point out the f8 at full aperture at maximum focal length (but you already know it before buying it!!!), which makes it necessary to go up with the ISO in non-optimal light conditions, a case that in nature photography occurs not rarely. I will update the review later, but for the moment at first glance I would confirm that it is a lens that is worth the money it costs.
