| sent on 18 Aprile 2021 Pros: Very comfortable to work and hold on X-T body! Cons: The only way to get impressive soft background is to use the lens at f1.2 ... BUT at f1.2 the lens is not sharp anywhere close to alternative lenses. It is also, just like any other half decent Fuji lenses 2x to 3x times more expensive than equivalent (or better) Canon, Nikon, Sony or Sigma lens !!! Opinion: Finally I got to try out the lens. We were shooting : me with my X-T2 and 56 1.2 and my friend with Canon 6DII and Canon 85 f1,8. I discovered two things: 1) Fuji lens cannot get truly soft lovely background, unless you work very close to the model. And I was not comfortable being so close to our model, and 2) The lens is comfortable to use - not very big, not very heavy and has a comfortable shape to hold. Then I swapped to Canon (6D) and my friend took my Fuji, and we agree : Fuji is much more comfortable to work with. BUT And it is a huge BUT - Canon 85 f1.8 came out so much better - better color, better sharpness, better background separation. Everything, just everything related to image came so much better with Canon 85 1.8 lens !!! And let alone the Canon lens here costs EUR 300, the Fuji lens costs EUR 900 ... Summary : an OK lens, but way to expensive, way way way too expensive - vs. comparable and better lenses from other brands. So I am not buying this lens, waiting fro maybe Sigma will start making Fuji lenses this year. PS After trying out 7 lenses from Fuji, I only liked 2 of them : The 2.8 16-50mm zoom, and the 23mm f1.4 lens. They are very expensive, but at least they are very good. My next camera, I go back to FF, and I am not looking back at Fuji ever. I do not care their camera bodies are fine, without good and reasonably priced lenses I cannot work. |
| sent on 24 Giugno 2022 Pros: Full aperture sharpness, weight, blurry pasty Cons: Af sometimes uncertain, AC Opinion: The pros far outweigh the cons. I was undecided between this is the 90 f2. One does not exclude the other and in fact the 90 is already on the list. However, the 56mm from fujifilm is an exceptional lens that if you have enough space is preferred to the 35mm f1.4, which I would not give up. I then found out that with an xpro3 the noise in the focus is minimal. Which also happens to me with the 18mm f2. |
| sent on 09 Maggio 2022 Pros: Color rendering, amazing bokeh, build quality Cons: Maybe AF uncertain on some occasion Opinion: Spatial lens, excellent color rendering, AF uncertain only on some occasions, but still satisfactory. That said, I use it in conjunction with the XT-4 that perhaps makes the autofocus a little more responsive, it is certainly among the must-have lenses, weight and ingrombri are contained, the quality as always in the Fuji house is of a high level, the absence of the WR as far as I am concerned is irrelevant. It turns out to be a funny lens even outside of portrait photography, in some respects a bit of a revelation. |
| sent on 02 Gennaio 2022 Pros: Magic Cons: Slightly slow AF Opinion: As I wrote in the PROs it is a magical perspective. There is no other way to describe it. Vero has an AF not quite up to par but you will forget it as soon as you look at the shots on the monitor. In portraits it is perfect. The weight and bulk are exactly what I would have liked from such a lens. On the T2 it is very balanced in weight and size. The bezel of the MAF is large and rubbed the right. I think that together with the 90 F2 in fuji, for portraiture there is nothing better. |

The overall yield is excellent, such as bokeh, ac seal, ta vignette etc. Dimensions even not exaggerated considering that it is a 56mm 1.2 although for apsc; the real downside is af, especially with little light never hooking on the first shot, very slow; personally on fuji as a portrait lens I prefer the 90 f2, I think for a matter of taste, in any case good portrait lens. |
| sent on 10 Marzo 2021 Pros: Bokeh, sharpness, weight, construction. Cons: Maybe Cost but in proportion to quality it is not then out of range. Opinion: I find that wonderful. The quality of the blurry is exceptional. The clarity even at full opening is remarkable. Closing then becomes a real blade. A great portrait lens. Considering the opening the weight and size are contained and you carry behind an out-of-the-ordinary glass. I use it with the XT-1 and I feel great. My hands are big and with battery-grip I find the balance to be great. The construction is the typical Fuji therefore impeccable. I think it's a must-have! |

| sent on 05 Maggio 2020 Pros: Sharpness already in TA, wonderful bokeh, colors and reading shadows. Cons: AF not always accurate and not very fast, minimum distance of maf. Opinion: I've been following him forever and finally, found a used in new condition, I finally decided to buy it. It's a gorgeous optics, incredibly sharp already at TA, with a dream bokeh, returns a feeling of three-dimensionality of the subject and has an ability to return the colors of the scene out of the ordinary. In practice optically it is perfect. And despite being light, it conveys sensations of great robustness. And it's also nice to see.... The cons, which are there, are the ones I mentioned, but in proportion to the merits I consider them, for my kind of photography, of really minimal importance. Used on XE3 the AF is still good, while on XT1, when it doesn't work properly, I use the manual maf taking advantage of the excellent viewfinder and its automatic magnification with focus peaking. Final consideration: over more than thirty years of photography and the more than one hundred goals of all the brands and value I have used, this is definitely among the best. Just extraordinary. |
| sent on 20 Marzo 2020 Pros: Optical and mechanical quality, bokeh always gorgeous. Cons: Diaphragms' ghiera too soft, lag manual focus, could dare a little more in the lampshade. Opinion: It was the first lens I bought with a Fuji, why? Because I like the focal 85 and this lens together with the 35 f1.4 is an optical masterpiece of Fuji, each shot at full opening gives beautiful colors, shades and sharp contours. Unfortunately, as with many other lenses the mechanical part is really backward compared to the competitors, the focus is slow and often inaccurate, the lampshade is shiny plastic and scratches right away, I would suggest a scratch-proof finish or rather a gorgeous lampshade as 35 f1.4. |
| sent on 12 Marzo 2020 Pros: Bokeh, beautiful shadows, sharpness in my opinion sufficient even to f1.2 ,construction and design Cons: Embarrassing Autofocus Opinion: I decided to make myself a gift and buy this lens for its opening and focal length. What to say, a jewel! Nice and solid as you expect from a Fujifilm lens. What didn't convince me at all is the autofocus... really bad! I didn't expect from a perspective of almost a thousand euros... in good light conditions seems to work properly, even if slow... but just a little backlight and the moped starts to go back and forth without ever hooking... it's nerve-racking! As soon as you figure out how to make the most of it, the fun begins. It's crisp, bright and blurry is really nice! |
| sent on 24 Dicembre 2019 Pros: Painting yield for APSC, well-readable shadows, blurred Cons: Aberrations, flare, sharpness, AF Opinion: I had taken it especially for full-length portraits to decently detach the subject to TA. I returned it after 2 weeks, I gave it every chance but it's not for me. The sharpness at 1.2 is insufficient, even at F2 is literally humiliated by the small 50, the AF is embarrassing in continuous, it goes discreetly only in singles. The merits are a good shadow reading and the soft blurry, sincerely after trying the 90 I was literally shocked and I took that, play another sport! |
| sent on 05 Dicembre 2019 Pros: Sharpness, rendering/look of images , bokeh Cons: it's not tropicalized Opinion: on XT-3 is just enough to make street and unlike other not known big noises for photo use, I would use it in manual for video . The rendering of the images is sharp already at 1.2 with an excellent microcontrast and the colors are pasty and recognizable compared to the same photo made with another newer lens, here goes to taste . It is very susceptible to flare and if you do not notice it kills the contrasts, but if handled well allows portraits in backlight in my opinion fantastic. One flaw for me is that it is not water resistant, so I would be very careful to shoot in the rain or in a desert, beach etc... It is relatively compact even if it weighs enough, especially for those with an Xt-3 or X-pro3. |
| sent on 04 Dicembre 2019 Pros: IQ, size and weight Cons: AF: Slow, noisy and inaccurate in low light, minimum high fire distance Opinion: The first thing that struck me, just pulled out of the box, is its weight that I imagined well higher. Mounted on my X-T2 immediately manifested its perhaps only negative aspect: the AF. It is particularly noisy and not too precise, especially in low light situations, rather slow and, evidently, old school (i.e. old tech). Too bad because the lens, which does not cost very little, then literally leaves you speechless for the quality of image it makes and for its now famous bokeh. Well balanced as size and weight, comfortable the wide dialing dial, as well as the diaphragm diaphragm diaphragm diaphragm, is definitely a lens to promote even if it loses the praise because of the AF. Another small flaw is the excessive minimum focus distance. Perhaps a Mark II version could remedy these small gaps and bring a truly perfect lens to market (and in our bags). |

Cons: AF on old gen, maybe lack of WR Opinion: great nice lens. the packaging is respectable, sold with lampshade, case and microfiber cloth. The weight of 400gr is a fair balancing compromise with all ùfuji machine bodies. the AF performs well on all newer Fuji, especially xt-3, xh-1, xt-30, ex-3 while with previous systems it has a few more attempts. very comfortable the diaphragm diaphragm diaphragm land physically present on the lens. IQ is remarkable even at TA and blurring is very pleasant. the focal length makes it, in my opinion, one of the best portrait optics around, especially in relation to the really competitive price. a lens that is easy to fall in love with and that would be too reductive to use only for portraits. it also lends itself very well to street and, with extension tube, I pulled out macros more than dignified. in short, a piece that can not be missing in a kit worthy of the name. |

Beauty, certainly does not help to make better pictures, but satisfies the eye and this is always nice! It is built well, like almost all Fuji optics; so "cold" metal so pleasant to touch. It's solid, and it feels. The ring of MaF has the right resistance, there are no games or strange noises and conveys a pleasant feeling of robustness.rnIo I find that it is very clear already from 1.2, provided you use it WELL and do not cannare the focus, but it is difficult because in any case it is very precise. Almost infallible. I read some who complain slowly ... I consider it more than "normal". But it is certainly not so slow that you miss a shot! | sent on 03 Aprile 2016 Pros: versatility, f 1.2, optical quality Cons: Minimum focusing distance Opinion: I had this beautiful slow for a few months, then I sold it and replaced with 90mm. The 56mm is better than 90mm for: versatility, size, maximum opening, "dreamy effect" of photos, three-dimensional (perception and personal opinion) The 90mm is better than 56mm for: sharpness, auto focus, bokeh, minimum focusing distance and resulting in higher reproduction ratio (0.2 vs 12:09). This last point is the main reason why I replaced the 56mm in favor of 90mm: too often, in tight close-ups, the minimum focusing distance constringeva me to move away a few millimeters. With 90mm you can stay further away (especially useful in the early levels of children) to obtain a final magnification increased and this, paradoxically, makes it 90mm longer usable for me, despite the 56mm is on paper a more versatile lens. For full-length portraits, or better yet a half-length, especially in low light, the 56mm produce wonderful results. |
