sent on 29 Maggio 2025 Pros: Cheap, better than the EF version, compact, light, sharp (but not as sharp as the other RF 50mm) Cons: STM motor not very fast and noisy, extra lens hood Opinion: Definitely a lens to buy in your kit if you want a native 50mm RF that does its job with little expense. Of course, this lens is superior to the EF 50mm STM version in pretty much everything, and the fact that you can mount it natively on R bodies without an adapter is great! The lens is cheap (the lens hood is always missing, but it is solved with the third-party one that works very well) and is sharp, even if when you compare it to the other two RF 50mm 1.4 and 1.2 the difference is really visible (with open apertures, closing it is really sharp). it's something to take if you don't use fixed lenses much and you want to mount it every now and then for some photos (maybe portraits or something more artistic) Had it for a couple of years and recently sold only to switch to the new RF 50mm 1.4 that beats it in practically everything (I would also like to see since we go from the scarce 200€ to 1600€) Definitely a lens that I would still recommend! if you then use it on recent bodies with IBIS, it also gains stabilization that is not normally there
sent on 29 Maggio 2024 Pros: Lightweight and always sharp. Cons: For the price I don't know, maybe I would have preferred a 9-blade diaphragm. Opinion: I have had and used the EF STM version on the 70D, 6DII and the current R with the adapter and it was simply unique in value for money. I find this RF much sharper at maximum aperture and well contrasted. Considering that it costs twice as much as the EF analogue, I would have preferred a 9-blade diaphragm for a softer blur, but all in all I'm quite happy with it. I definitely recommend it to all amateur photographers who are not too demanding. Those who love this focal length and have the economic possibility, can definitely opt for the more expensive and heavier f/1.2 L version. For me it deserves a 9.
sent on 27 Gennaio 2024 Pros: Cost, size, AF Cons: Sharpness Opinion: For the price it's fine. You have to be aware that when wide open it is very soft. To get some sharpness you have to close down to f2.8 (for the center). Unfortunately for the edges you have to close to f5.6. I also noticed that if you close the aperture more, already at f8 there is a lot of diffraction. Taken used at 160€ it can fit. The 35mm optically is something else.
sent on 04 Gennaio 2024 Pros: Low weight, small size, low cost, decent Af Cons: Poor sharpness, low price but worth the cost, not enough micro contrast Opinion: Unlike all the other RF lenses I've tried, it's not optimized for full-aperture use (not even in the center) and you need to close down to f2.8 for acceptable sharpness in the center and f5.6 for corners. It reminds me of the sharpness of the 50mm ef 1.4 but worse. It also suffers from backlighting. On the other hand, the very small weight and the space occupied in the bag, practically zero. Nice manual focus ring that can be customized like other RF lenses.
sent on 28 Giugno 2023 Pros: Price - weight - overall size - overall quality Cons: No hood - single ring for af/diaphragms - yield at the edges up to f:4 Opinion: I also own the RF L-series f:1,2 parifocal. Needless to make comparisons, otherwise one of the two should not exist: if the 50/1.2 were not perfect, it should not cost what it costs; If 50/1.8 were perfect, it couldn't cost what it costs. But precisely: despite sharing the focal length and despite having only one stop of difference brightness, they are two profoundly different lenses in light of the use that can be made of them: I would never go on the Dolomite trails with the 50/1.2, to say, nor, being able to choose between the two, I would use the 50/1.8 for a ceremony or a portrait session. The little guy actually does well, as long as you take into account that the major openings are "emergency" and do not pretend to adequately enhance all the quality offered by the sensor of an R5. Probably on other less resolving cameras the speech improves more and more. It is light and fits in your pocket, it goes very well with the 24/1.8 and probably even more with the announced 28/2.8 pancakes. It must be borne in mind (at least I am forced to do so) that a small and light lens is always preferable to a massive and corpulent one in all cases in which long stretches are traveled on foot, even more if uphill, even more if under the scorching sun. It's obvious, but I still remember the insane idea of taking 28-70/2 with me on the paths of the Alpe di Siusi. Of course, returning home, in front of the mac, I appreciated its stellar quality: but they were all shots from f: 5.6 to f: 11, that is, in conditions in which even the small and cheap 50/1.8 would have given convincing results, weighing a tenth of the fabulous superbright zoom I had with me. In short, when I know a priori that I will shoot a lot of architecture or landscape, I take the 15-35 / 2.8 L. But if I go out light without knowing what I will focus the camera on, I always add to the basic kit (eg 24-105) the very small and reviled 16 / 2.8, which is not at the level of the other, but still offers a very dignified yield and an angle of field otherwise the prerogative of much more expensive and huge "monsters". The back and shoulders thank you. The same goes for 50/1.8, based on the principle that the best lens in the world is the one you have when you shoot. If you stayed at home because it was too heavy, don't shoot. And it is always better to take home a (good) photo taken with a non-perfect lens than not to shoot at all having left a perfect lens at home.
sent on 28 Giugno 2023 Pros: Practical light sharp and economical Cons: no hood Opinion: Optics that are well suited on FF and Aps-c. One might think, given the low price, of a not good quality and yield, instead it is an excellent optics that for practicality of use and transport should not be missing in the kit of a photographer. A TA already has a good sharpness, perhaps just soft enough that does not hurt for portraits and blur, but just close at f2.8 and the sharpness becomes excellent, even excellent at f4. Excellent color rendering as Canon mom has accustomed us. Chromatic aberration little noticeable and cmq nothing uncorrectable in pp. The only negative aspect is the lack of the hood in the package that if one wants, must be purchased separately. In conclusion, it is a handy lens with excellent performance that for size and weight, you mount it on your mirrorless and carry it around without transport problems.
sent on 27 Aprile 2023 Pros: Lightweight, sharp, economical Cons: nothing for me Opinion: Purchased at 160€ new, together with the R8 is a crazy combo. It becomes a compact. the af is fast, follows very well a child who runs, it is super light and sharp, not at the levels of the L series but we are talking about an economic objective. The hood is missing but I do not see the strict need for it. Even going for a walk put the car and the 50ino in the pocket of the jacket and go.
sent on 25 Ottobre 2022 Pros: Small, light, sharp*, price Cons: Noisy STM, nervous bokeh, lacks hood, blurry edge Opinion: I had this lens for a short time and I must say that it is a best buy, It is small and read it, it has a very low cost, it is robust and you store it everywhere. The sharpness in the center is really very good, but if you also want it on the sides you have to close at least at f4. the STM is fast but not as fast as a USM, and it's a bit noisy. However, it is still an excellent optic!!!
sent on 14 Settembre 2022 Pros: Aluminum bayonet. Really good price. Reduced cost of filters. Light and easy to handle. Better build quality than EF in my opinion. Cons: Slow AF, chromatic aberration. Opinion: Those who buy it already know that they are not buying an L series. But despite this, for the price at which it is proposed, it deserves to have it. As described, slow AF (not very suitable for video use). Despite the RF optical park, I always carry it with me. The compactness is crazy. Chromatic aberration present! However I feel compelled to recommend it, especially for the cost & what you get with it :)
sent on 11 Aprile 2022 Pros: Easily transportable small lens, good autofocus and sharpness from f 2.8 onwards Cons: Plastic and external focus. Closing the lens with the cap sometimes risks damaging the lens (when you do not remember to turn off the machine). Opinion: The lens performs quite well the value for money holds. As for the focus I would say that it is "normal" nothing amazing but not even the opposite. Good sharpness starting from f 2.8 excellent at f 4. An economic lens that for the amateur photographer is fine, also excellent for travel given its very small size. The ideal is the 50 1.2 but it costs a mistake and for amateurs it is absolutely not convenient.
sent on 26 Marzo 2022 Pros: Price, weight, dimensions, optical yield, no flare Cons: Noisy focus, plastic, no hood Opinion: Much better in everything except in af than the STM EF version. The RF croaks and looks like a less rapid thread. Not only mine, I tried 3... For the rest I would say excellent, much better than I thought. Unfortunately it is the realm of plastic. I do not find flare, just soft to TA, blurred a bit 'hard but better than brother EF. In the bag you carry it even for the little weight.

sent on 21 Ottobre 2021 Pros: Price, lightness Cons: For the price none Opinion: With the RP, next to the 35RF 1.8 forms an excellent travel and reportage kit. Very light and compact, too bad that they do not include the hood but with just over twenty euros you buy its original. I took it to replace the old EF 50mm 1.4 and at the moment I am satisfied with the choice, both in terms of sharpness with the same aperture and in terms of solidity, despite the plastic shell is still well made. In short, a fifty that given the price is to have on the stock exchange practically always!
sent on 07 Ottobre 2021 Pros: Cost, lightweight, compact, programmable bezel. Cons: None in my opinion Opinion: Bought to match my Canon eos rp, which with this lens becomes a compact. Very light lens, excellent blurred at 1.8. Very sharp. At this price, how not to buy it. I highly recommend it to everyone. Excellent optics to always carry with you and also always keep attached to the REFLEX in street exits or for room portraits. Great great
sent on 13 Aprile 2021 Pros: Like the little brother EF: size, weight, cost. Better than the EF little brother: sharpness at the edges. Cons: Worse than little brother EF: sharpness in the center up to F/4 Opinion: I have the EF version of the lens, to be used with the R system with the adapter. The prospect of having 110g and 2cm less as well as the programmable ring pushed me to invest the exorbitant amount of 200€. When paired with the Canon RP, you get a combination, in my opinion, excellent in terms of weight, handling, clutter, usability: 96x132x87(h)mm / 648g. To be carried in the bag, in the pocket of the jacket. Rf50mm has a slightly greater angle of field than the adapter + EF50mm combination. In the centre, the RF is very, very much less sharp than the EF. At the edges a pleasant surprise: the softness, typical of the fiftieth up to almost F/4.0, disappears at F2.8.
sent on 01 Marzo 2021 Pros: Compactness, brightness, boken, lightness, very comfortable ring to adjust the exposure in an instant Cons: Perhaps a lampshed but because of the cost it has, nothing else can be expected. Opinion: For just over 200 euros bring home a light and efficient light lens that mounted on my R makes it a professional and light supercompatta to always carry behind. Great for everything from the portrait set on the close-ups and why not also to the street. It makes a very delicate blurry with an excellent detachment of the subject. The first tests I did were in AFC servo with eye recognition at f1.8 and I have to say that it does not miss a beat and that autofocus is really fast. He suffers a little only when asked about close-ups when you risk approaching in addition to the minimum focus distance. For those you know better an 85.. But otherwise it is really a must have on which to build a set set set low cost but high performance.. I reserve the right to do more tests by closing a little more to see the sharpness.. although the temptation to leave it stuck at f1.8 is very strong given the results.. Haha.. I can only give 10..love at first shot!
sent on 04 Gennaio 2021 Pros: Size; Price; Autofocus; Multifunctional Ring; Sharpness from 2.2 onwards Cons: Sharpness to TA, Absence of the supplied lampshon, Maybe there could have been a stabilization. Opinion: I tried this lens recently with which I replaced the Tamron 45mm 1.8 SP. Then beyond the usual plastic sensation of this fifty I have to say that otherwise it was definitely surprising. Full-opening sharpness is obviously not the top of the top but with a little edit you can bring out results. From 2.2 onwards, however, sharpness becomes excellent and edge resolution is really effective. I think it is, to date, the mile compromised price quality to start using the RF system without constraints of footprint. The slightest difference especially with open diaphragms with the Tamron is cushioned by the size. The 50mm is really small, comfortable and on my Eos R it is really that gem that makes the car light, transportable and with the mirrorless advantages we know. The multifunctional ring is exceptional and allows you to manage compensation very well for example and therefore have total exposure control without having to focus on anything else. In conclusion, it is an excellent lens that will give you many joys for a truly derisory price
sent on 12 Dicembre 2020 Pros: Price, lightness, size, sharpness from f/2.8 onwards, multi-function ring Cons: Not tropicalized to be RF and sharpness at 1.8 you have edges. Unique ring for multifunction and fire. Opinion: Autofocus really very fast, sharpness from f/2.8 onwards, but still quite sharp in the center even at 1.8. Great bokeh. Perfect for RP. Good colors and good depth. The electronic fire responds quite well, a slow wire turning the ring quickly. Compared to the old 50 mm 1.8 II I had it is superior in everything for both precision/speed and responsiveness, for sharpness at all openings. Obviously the comparison to 90 pieces like the 50 mm 1.2 makes no sense.
