Pros: Focal range, general rendering, autofocus

Cons: weight

Opinion: Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the optics. Used with R8, in my walks it has replaced the fixed ones that have always remained in the bag, probably for the next holidays I will bring only him with at most the 16 to keep in my pocket. The definition of the lens is good (but not exceptional) at every focal length. Compared to the 85 stm, the lower resolving power is noticeable, but only by viewing the image at 100%. For the rest, the images returned are very good, with good contrast and absence of distortions or aberrations (thanks also to the correction via automatic software). The USM autofocus is lightning-fast and makes the lens usable even in dynamic environments. I was able to photograph and track bees in flight that had never happened before with other lenses. The IS is effective, allowing me to get sharp photos with shutter speeds as small as 1/10 at 240mm and subject at a few meters. Among other things, it also has an excellent minimum focusing distance that allows excellent close-ups. The construction is good, while the size and especially the weight are a bit high. The lens is still manageable and quite balanced on R8 (but probably even better on R6 and higher) but a bit uncomfortable in transport. Coming from an almost exclusively use of fixed tires (and previously from an M5) I have to get used to it a bit but in use its eclecticism is abundantly forgiven.

Pros: Good-excellent sharpness at all focal lengths in the center Also excellent at edges from 50mm to 100mm Good blur considering the low brightness Excellent weight and dimensions considering that it is 10x

Cons: Edges at 24mm-30mm are unclear The lack of weather sealing

Opinion: I used it for a few days in practice and I must say that it did not behave badly at all. The large focal range allows you to switch from wide-angle to super-telephoto in an instant. Sharpness in the center of the frame always excellent and at 240mm also an excellent blur. Precise af and excellent stabilizer. It has a huge weakness that made me desist from buying it: the lack of any tropicalization for a travel lens makes no sense and in fact after only 2 days of outdoor use in environments not even so demanding I have already found a speck of dust inside...

Pros: Focal range. By now it can be found used at more than affordable prices

Cons: Not comparable to an L-series

Opinion: As a former owner of an RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, I picked up this 24-240 with the knowledge that if I wasn't happy with it, I would sell it and turn my attention to another L-series. The difference with the L series is immediately felt and it is not necessarily negative: lighter, longer travel and the awareness of having an all-rounder that costs quite little, makes me feel calmer. I use it for trips and sporting events and the rendering of the photos taken, being an amateur, fully satisfy me! I believe that one should always choose a lens based on one's skills and expertise. For this reason, personally, I am very very satisfied and I highly recommend it!

Pros: For me everything.

Cons: Plasticky appearance.

Opinion: I've been using this lens on the Canon R6 mk2 for exactly one year and it's also the only one I have, so I can't make comparisons but it fully meets my needs as an amateur photographer. I bought it used from my trusted shopkeeper, in fact as new, with lens hood and still under warranty. It has an important focal range and I thought worse as a result, but definitely good. The weight is low. I inserted the correction in the machine and even at 24 mm the distortion is more than contained. The colors it returns are beautiful, I did not detect optical anomalies, used at night on a monopod with shooting at 25800 iso, magnificent. I use it a lot in the video field and it is smooth, excellent stabilization, speed of focus. I highly recommend it.

Pros: Good definition at almost all focal lengths, fast and accurate autofocus, relatively light weight, large focal range, excellent image stabilization.

Cons: Medium quality construction, not tropicalized, lacks hood, lacks manual fire selector, distortion at 24mm, high price.

Opinion: Economic lens with an important price: you can see almost immediately that it is built in economy, starting with the packaging of the box, but with the excuse that Canon prevents third-party manufacturers from producing lenses with the new mount, it allows it to offer medium quality products at exaggerated prices. Such a lens should be sold at 600 euros in my opinion, not 1000. The construction consists of a medium-low quality plastic that seems to be easily ruined, but we will see this with the use. For the use that is intended this lens, that is all-rounder and for travel, it would not be bad if it had been tropicalized. The switch to select manual fire is missing, although this is a marginal problem as far as I'm concerned. For the 1000 euros paid, you could also make a small effort to include the hood (it costs 15 euros of competition, Canon certainly less), useful accessory not only to reduce reflections, but also to protect the front lens. But it's not all a con to this lens: the relatively light weight and the large focal range will make it a faithful companion for mountain hikes and travel. The definition is very good at short and medium focal lengths, while towards the upper limit there is a slight loss of detail, but nothing serious. The autofocus is fast, precise and quiet. The optical stabilizer works in symbiosis with the sensor (for camera bodies equipped with a stabilized sensor) and is really very effective. The zoom dial has no backlash, and is pleasant to use; Maybe a bit too hard, but not a problem, and makes the zoom lock switch superfluous. Convenient is the freely assignable multifunction ring, which becomes the fire control if necessary (there is the selector to choose the control, but not the one to choose the manual fire). It should be noted that if you shoot in RAW, it is mandatory to correct the distortion in post production to 24mm (in jpeg the camera already does it automatically), otherwise you can admire the black border of the lens on the four corners. This is another potential lens defect, because the correction leads to a small loss of detail on the edges. In conclusion, the lens will certainly give me satisfaction, but at a somewhat expensive price for construction.

Pros: Focal range, dimensions/weight

Cons: Yield at the edges, 24mm so-so, 240mm a little soft, not very bright and cost.

Opinion: It is a fairly compact size lens for a 10x. The yield in the center is good, at 24 it loses a lot at the edges: deactivating the lens profile on camera raw you notice a lens wider than 24, a little fisheye, which is stretched and cropped by the software correction to obtain the final result that we are used to seeing. Between 50 and 100mm is pretty good; between 100 and 150mm gives its best, from here on it starts to drop until it becomes a little soft at 240mm. From my impressions in the wide focal lengths this super-zoom is poorer than the various 24-70/105 but at 70 and 105 beats them being halfway through its excursion. The convenience, however, is that compared to them the 24-240 reaches much further .. it's like having a normal zoom and a tele-zoom combined. I did some tests comparing with the 24-75 of the Panasonic lx100 (which I use on a trip) and beats it despite the greater focal range. Obviously it helps the FF sensor of the R against the 4/3 of the compact. Being a fairly dark zoom in the evening outings with the tip and shoot you go up a lot of ISO: I recommend for this to bring a tripod or flank a bright fixed. In my opinion it is the ideal optics for travel / trip because being able to shoot between 24 and 240 without changing lens is priceless! Being a handyman I also tried it in portrait and at the focal canvases manages to blur despite the dark diaphragm isolating the model. I am combining it with my set of fixed for travel use, reducing the use of the compact to the bare minimum, to take more advantage of the EOS R.

Pros: Versatility, more than discreet optical yield discreet at all focal lengths, surprising for a super zoom

Cons: Reduced brightness, lack of hood, mandatory digital correction at 24mm, at 240 mm lower yield than shorter focal lengths, lack of any form of tropicalization

Opinion: Taken for a landscaping workshop with the intention of reselling it as soon as I could take the RF 24-105 L, unavailable at the time. The problem is that compared with other lenses (EF 35mm f2 IS, EF 50mm f1.8, EF 70-200 F4 IS L) and with the same RF 24-105mm F4 L on Canon EOS R, well the RF 24-240mm is not bad at all: it managed to undermine my prejudices about super zooms. Certainly it does not have the same performance as fixed focal lengths, certainly zooms with lower excursion are better, but the differences are no longer as macroscopic as they used to be. Even compared to the RF 24-105 mm F4 L the differences are not huge. The resolution in the center is more than decent on all focal lengths, at the extremes of the range (24 and 240 mm) are the edges to suffer a little. In the central focal lengths the situation is not bad, so for example at 105 mm at TA I can not say that the RF 24-105 mm L is better, indeed: at 105mm the 24-105mm is at the upper limit (which in itself has a lower yield than the shorter focal lengths, at least on my specimen), while the 24-240 is in an intermediate area of its range, where he gives the best of himself. Even when compared to the EF 70-200mm F4 IS L the differences, in the equivalent focal lengths, are not evident except when comparing the images at 100% or 200%, with the advantage of the edges for the EF 70-200 F4 IS L. For design choice it is necessary to use the digital correction of geometric distortion (otherwise enormous) and 24mm vignetting, a choice that obviously penalizes the yield at the edges. The color rendering is good, as well as the contrast. Effective stabilizer. The prerogative of having in a single lens a wide range of focal lengths, with a weight contained in 750g is a huge advantage, especially when traveling or hiking; In such situations, often not having to change the optics is also an advantage, limiting the dirt that ends up on the sensor. In this regard, the lack of any form of tropicalization is an important limitation. The biggest problem I've encountered is the limited brightness that pushes to use high ISO (especially at longer focal lengths, f 6.3 at 240mm!), and this reduces the image quality in low light more than the resolution limits. For the purchase price (1000 and more €) the lack of the hood is scandalous. Moral: not only did I not resell it, but very often it takes the place in the outputs of the RF 24-105mm F4 L.

Pros: Very versatile and lightweight.

Cons: Diaphragms that force you to use ISO cars recklessly

Opinion: Used as a forklift for 10 days waiting for another lens. I was surprised at the lightness and optical hike. Also shot the interior with ISO up to 6400 with RP, the results were good. For outdoor shots it shows its true value, excellent colors and details. An optics to keep as a reserve of the L series, or on trips to unpleasant places.

Pros: Versatility, good image quality to be a 10x. makes it better in canvases than in wide-angle. acceptable size and weight.

Cons: lack of the standard lampshade. On a cost of 1000 euros we could put that piece of plastic of the lampshade , it is not made of gold!

Opinion: Taken from a couple of days and tried on the fly with mundane photos just to compare it with RF 24-105. I must say that I expected worse for a 10x , in direct comparison with RF 24-105 loses quality at the edges in the focal courts, but not dramatic. Very good yield to the long focal points, compared with the EF 70-200 f4 is last series holds him almost head. the problem is that you have to use the new digital photo professional of canon because at the moment the raw files on raw camera are not correct , you can use but for example at 24mm you see at the corners angry the edges of the lens. in Practice shows a photo more than 24mm than the same in jpeg. More information will follow in the field. But it's crazy to go out with the only car around your neck with a lens that does pretty much everything, leaving the heavy duffel bag at home. It's only been a few days and the raw camera update has arrived, I say right away that it's a strange thing, applying the lens data corrects well and the black corners disappear, but giving the correction 100% on the distortion that makes the photo change a lot, but straightens the lines to perfection. With other 24 mm lenses you do not see the black corners even without applying the correction. Boh...... However, I confirm the decent overall quality. He loses a bit of sharpness at the edges in the focal courts, but I'm a good judge. Going around without the heavy duffel bag pleases me and I think in the end that if you don't have to do professional photos for advertising can go well. Ps tried at a wedding for the outside....... Never had so much fun! Great result!
