sent on 13 Novembre 2024 Pros: Compact and lightweight, solid Cons: Not too effective servo AF Opinion: Used from 2018 to 2024 first by adapting EF lenses (also with speedbooster) then by creating an entire EF-M kit. The quality of the body is very good, despite the minimal size and lightness it is solid and well balanced in the hand (with EF-M lenses, with adapted lenses instead it tends to be unbalanced forward). Decidedly good sensor quality, much better than the 18mpx of the 60D, especially for dynamic range. The isos are also acceptable, especially when working raw with the new AI noise reduction tools. The AF is two-sided, good in single shot a little less in servo, where it still manages to track horizontal but not longitudinal movements with the approaching subject. The locking speed is also not at the highest levels, even less so if you use face recognition. There is also a slight operating delay, noticeable when trying to "freeze the moment", which can be solved by using the burst (a good 7fps) and anticipating the shot. After a bit of getting used to it, the viewfinder also becomes acceptable. So overall a mirrorless of good quality but which suffers a bit from the passage of time, but capable of surprising if it is not required to be too dynamic in terms of capabilities. Now replaced with an R8 (to look for the thrill of FF), but I regret a bit the size of the M kit (especially thinking of the beloved Sigma 56), and if Canon had continued the development I would own an M5 Mark II.
sent on 13 Gennaio 2023 Pros: Materials, articulated screen, intuitive controls, lightness, aesthetics (it's really a nice machine) Cons: Very slow AF in SERVO mode, hesitation af in low light, low resistance to high iso Opinion: The Canon M5 I took some time ago for my son and as a spare forklift for me combining it with a Canon EF 70-300 is II nano USM through the EF-M / EF adapter ring. With little weight and very small dimensions I had in my hands a nice combination using an equivalent focal length of 480 mm extremely suitable for non-demanding naturalistic. The image quality was sufficient but not exciting (clearly if I compare it to my mother equipment: R6 + RF 100-500 L). In addition, the AF system in some cases has proved to be out of step with the times. Therefore, my son began to feel the need for a change of camera body. I wanted to please him by taking a more modern R10 (which will also serve me as a forklift). In summary, I have described the M5 in the pros and cons of this review. I would definitely take it for "basic" use but I would not recommend it to an experienced photographer. I also used it with the native EF-M 18-55 is STM for some landscape, in this case nothing to say considering the limits of optics. Positive judgment but for the naturalistic "serious" need more.
sent on 29 Maggio 2022 Pros: RELIABLE EXCELLENT PHOTO RENDERING Cons: NOTHING TO BE IN APS-C FORMAT Opinion: Excellent lightweight SLR, offers high performance at the photographic level, excellent and fast wi-fi. Fast autofocus, very similar to the Canon EOS 200D and EOS 77d I own. You can push it to high iso although I prefer in landscape photos to use the tripod and remote shooting. I also have an Olympus OMD-10 MARK II and I believe that in terms of ergonomics, grip, menu of use and photo quality is inferior to Canon. (Canon uses in any case on mirrorless the APS-C format and not the micro 4:3 as Olympus). Therefore Canon having the largest sensor makes all the difference.
sent on 01 Febbraio 2021 Pros: Size, Weight, excellent quality Cons: non-4k video, optical park Opinion: Great machine, I have been using it for a couple of years and I feel very good, the pairing with the 22mm Canon is formidable, compact but powerful. I use it in weddings as a second body with adapter and 50mm to have a narrow and bright optics and it never gave me any problems. The batteries do not have an incredible durability but turning off wifi, touchscreen and continuous autofocus the life lasts. I highly recommend both for those who travel and for those who are at an intermediate level.
sent on 05 Novembre 2020 Pros: Aesthetics, Grip, Price. Cons: Sharpness Opinion: My opinion more than a statement is a reflection, because I was not happy with the quality of the photos and I hope to be denied by those who have more experience than mine. I used the Nikon P7700 previously giving me always beautiful photos and I hoped moving to the M5 to take better photos but this was not the case, indeed I found little sharpness even at close range with the 18-150 and also wanting to be sympathetic with all the limits that can have a all-rounder zoom, I can not justify so much difference with a much older Colpix.
sent on 08 Ottobre 2020 Pros: - Cons: - Opinion: PRO: - many physical controls (4 rings!) almost fully customizable - the same good 24mpx "second version" sensor of the various M50, 200D, 800D, 77D and 80D - fast and precise dual pixel AF - very fast burst (7 shots/second with afc) and "huge" buffer (17 raw) for non-specialist uses - very small weight and size, wanting more ergonomics resolves with a smallrig cage (it almost becomes a reflex, as a handle) - very comfortable touch screen in general, and well used as a joystick replacement to move the AF point even in viewfinder - perfectly compatible with efs/ef optics thanks to the adapter. CONS: - the ring around the shutter button for me is uncomfortable, nothing to do with that of the SLRs - AF not particularly lent in low light (comes "only" to -1EV): in such a condition the continuous af becomes unreliable, sometimes it goes hunting and even when it does not happen the machine could "refuse" to shoot for a couple of seconds after pressing the shutter button. It is as if he is still processing something despite the fact that there is confirmation of the focus on the screen. The strange thing (equal behavior in the M3) is that in a single the problem is very mitigated, the machine sets in focus and shoots in not excessive times (I repeat, only in very dark environments... I took pictures in church for a baptism, I was afraid of problems with the AFC and instead it never had any uncertainties) - there is no eye af (available on newer versions of the dual pixel) - poor battery life
sent on 08 Giugno 2019 Pros: AF speed, possibility to use the touchscreen to position the MAF point, sharp viewfinder, customizable ring nuts, possibility of speedbooster adapter for EF optics, compatibility with Canon Optical Park, practically pocketable with EF m 22mm Cons: Does not hold up well the high ISO, lacks focus on eye, few lenses EF-M Opinion: Light, ideal for travel (especially where it is not possible to carry bulky hand baggage). With the 22mm it finds its raison d'être. Nothing to envy to reflex APSC, but does not stand against the 6d. Compared to this produces larger files but noisier already from the 400 ISO. It is compatible with EF lenses. I'm also trying the ef m2 Viltrox to adjust the lenses I already had and reduce focal and increase brightness and it seems to behave very well with canon lenses, less with Tamron. But this is to be attributed to the adapter. Video compartment I don't know why I don't use it.
sent on 09 Aprile 2019 Pros: Lightness-Super Compact optics-quality Cons: APSC-All too small in hand, but still good ergonomics Opinion: Ideal Travel Machine. The image quality is great, the lenses are very fast. It has No compromises, it only makes extremely sharp photos. If you want a room to always have in your bag or backpack is this. Light practice and comfortable. The limits: Not at the top of the APSC, other brands certainly have done better in the numbers but in practice I would not be so sure. Are you a photography enthusiast? It's Not for you! Do you Want a machine that makes perfect shots without putting too much head? To buy right away, the used one has a ridiculous price for what it gives you! Will The EF-M system die in a few years? Whatever. If you want to invest and have used value is the wrong choice!
sent on 17 Febbraio 2019 Pros: Portability, performance, compatibility with Canon EF-EF-S lenses via adapter, construction. Cons: Battery Life (I think it depends on the touchscreen of the screen, maybe it is better to deactivate). Opinion: Purchased on the Internet at an advantageous price, next to the old 60D and EOS lenses that I possess, as a second body. I like it, it is light and manageable and I chose it prefering it to the M50 that has in addition the 4k and more points of focus, but a constructive look more plasticoso. In my Opinion among the Canon Aps-C mirrorless, is the best.
sent on 07 Maggio 2017 Pros: Use EF kit, compactness, weight, many ring nuts, very "macro-practical" Cons: compactness, weight, autonomy, lag viewfinder Opinion: After 7 months of use in a purely naturalistic field (avifauna, macro) I can express an almost definitive judgement. I took it mainly to do macro but I could not fail from trying it even where you need speed and where, I cmq brought home something, but aware that the 7d2 that I have is of another level as to ergonomics, speed, and accuracy. The lag of the viewfinder (typical of mirrorless) when you need operating speed really becomes a problem. A different story instead in macro, where the M5 is really preferred especially for the convenience of a touch and tilting display and a focus peaking that cmq useful. I put compactness and weight between the pros and the cons.... it depends on the use that it makes: it is a problem in the genres where you need a firm ergonomics and balanced Freehand.... is an advantage in the most "reasoned" on tripod. As a sensor we are on excellent levels and in processing you have no problems whatsoever if you work well in the shooting phase (as always on the other hand). In the gallery I have now several shots in high resolution to be seen... On A constructive level does not disappoint. Overall it is a very nice mirrorless that maybe it is out with a slightly excessive price but that I recommend to all those who are interested in such a machine, especially to those who already have a Canon SLR kit that wants to exploit via adapter (full Compatibility with everything for me) adding a light body to be used maybe with the 22 mm pancake for a quality and pocket configuration.
sent on 13 Marzo 2017 Pros: size, weight and speed focus Cons: battery life Opinion: The size and reduced weight are a great benefit both those traveling on excursions. The possibility then you can use the kit already own objectives represents a further considerable advantage. Operationally, it is very convenient in the 'use even sfruttamdo the tilting screen and the focus touch screen. The M5 mounted 55-200m still has a small size and is not flashy favoring also the shot of street photos. I use it for a couple of weeks and total I am very satisfied of 'purchase and I give a judgment definitely positivornrn
sent on 07 Febbraio 2017 Pros: Mirrorless, Reflective Body Complement, 2nd Best Body, EF Optical Use, Precise and Fast Autofocus, Touch Screen, Electronic Viewfinder, Quality Files, Articulated Screen. Cons: No remote snapshot via USB. Battery life. Battery other than FF and therefore need a double charger Opinion: According to me it has 2 functions: rn1) ML portable with 22mm - street exits or events with friends.rn2) According to the body of a FF which, with EF lens adapter, multiplies by 1.6, extensively extending the kit. RnrnM5 has several advantages, especially as second body. Rn- Continuous AF in video stabilizers and stabilizing AF-level body, higher than 6D. Safer and faster. With an FF body in the kit and two lenses (35 and an 85mm EF) on M5 actually become a 55 and a 135mm equivalent. This only with 450 gr. Rn- connectivity nfc, bluetooth, wifi. RnrnIt does not have remote snapshot with usb. Function usable in wifi with tablet or smartphone. RnEsthetically it's great. Dimensions not as compact as the 2nd body due to the EF adapter, can become compact with the optimal 22mm. rnrnVeloce. Intelligent. I really liked it. Rationalize the kit. RnNot a first Canon body I might prefer Olympus, maybe OM-1 mk2.
sent on 30 Dicembre 2016 Pros: Compactness, ergonomics, touch screen, AF Cons: dynamic range Opinion: now after a month of using this new Eos M5, now is the time to draw some conclusions. I bought this after ML experience in Sony (wonderful sensor, but total system cost too high) and one in Fuji (the development problems with adobe, I, I found them), and when Canon has released a mirrorless that he promised a good AF, small size and total compatibility with all Canon the world, did not I think twice before giving her a chance. The car looks good, built in polycarbonate rather than metal, but now it seems that the trend in the canon is that. The dimensions are extremely compact, which, however, does not involve an awkward arrangement of buttons, in fact, ergonomics is very good even for those who, like me, has great hands. of the button Honorable Mention "dial func." I wonder why no one thought of it before. The touch screen and is extremely convenient not only in the experience of use in live view, but also when con the eye to the viewfinder using it in style joystick to change the focus point. Fire that then the car hooked very quickly, both with EF-M lenses with both EF lenses (with the original adapter, I have not had a chance to try it with third-party adapters). In conditions of good light focus is lightning, when used with USM lenses then not much difference with 5d2 I had before. The dark slows down a bit, but between the auxiliary light, and some care is still a good standard. Making a comparison, I would say that is the same level of what I had on 5d2.rnNei against, but it is not a machine problem because the entire ecosystem Canon, the sensor seems to be a generation behind the equivalent sony regarding dynamic range, the lights will break through with just a couple of stops of underexposure, and you can not recover even the shadows lot, 100 iso over 3 stop recovery appears enough noise. In any case, these are impressions of use and not technical data, there will be on-linemany other authoritative reviews and more reliable from the point of view of "scientific". rnConcludendo, the machine is an excellent solution for those looking for a lightweight and compact body that allows to not give up anything, and always brings good results at home. Why buy this, and not a a6300 or t2? For the Canon ecosystem that between lens and flash offers much more choice than they can do Sony and Fuji.
sent on 27 Dicembre 2016 Pros: Building Smaller, faster, Cons: rec button position for videos. Position of the slide button for diopter adjustment viewfinder. Opinion: I have purchased the M5 to have an updated APSC body and, at the same time, exploit the optical canon kit. I bought the kit with 18-150 and I immediately purchased the 22 fixed. The quality of excellent image seems to me, as well as speed. For those who have normal or large hands, the arrangement of the small buttons on the back could present problems of inadvertent operation. I find the position of the button slide incredibly uncomfortable for the diopter adjustment viewfinder, under the rubber gasket and hampered in the drive by the upper edge of the touch screen. But a simple wheel, the side of the viewfinder ???
sent on 27 Dicembre 2016 Pros: build quality, compact and lightweight, layout of controls, ISO held, AF fairly quick and accurate. Cons: few, perhaps the quality of the optics "M", the display Opinion: I have the M5 for a month and I did some test shots, if you need a compact and lightweight body is the one that makes the case vostrornribadisco everything I wrote in the PRO, add the battery than Sony Mirrorless lasts something more and that the touch display, after a little 'practice is really comodornnei against over to what is written add that the movable display has the positions that are uncomfortable, for example for self-portraits on easel ends there davanti.rndiscorso latter in part for the optical park it is true that Canon offers the adapter for the EF set to the camera, but if you want to keep the concept of compactness and lightness should use his "M" series that are valid not exceptional
