sent on 04 Luglio 2023 Pros: Extreme versatility, effective stabilizer, good sharpness at all openings in the center Cons: Chromatic aberrations anytime and anywhere if the contrasts are a bit strong, distortion at 18mm on the edges (recoverable in PP), sharpness drop at the edges Opinion: Used for landscapes and city photography it performs well, especially from 24mm upwards. Too bad that the sharpness tends to get lost at the edges and that it is often coupled with chromatic aberrations, (almost) never very evident but still present and annoying. The images it returns, however, are interesting and give their best, in my experience, between f/8 and f/11. I miss to try the night photography to be able to try to exploit (unfortunately only at 18mm) the f / 3.5 which, all in all, guarantees a certain brightness.
sent on 23 Marzo 2023 Pros: Jack of all trades Cons: Master of none Opinion: This is the latest evolution of Canon's APS-C SLR lens kit. The thing that is immediately noticeable is the speed and precision of focusing, like the latest L-series lenses, as it equips the Nano USM system. Used with bodies with Dual Pixel, it is very reliable in tracking subjects, and can also be used for some sports shots. The image quality is what you can expect from a kit lens, so good but not great in apertures and focal lengths, and dropping at TA and in limit focal lengths. If well used and known, it returns sharp images and generally with a good microcontrast, but it is in the video shooting that it makes the best, having also been designed from the point of view of content creators. Without expecting cinematic levels, used for social content, vlogs and similar areas returns excellent shots, also assisted by the stabilizer. The "negative" sides (which are actually characteristics due to the fact that it is a non-specific kit lens) are obviously the brightness, the aperture that varies with the focal length and the build quality, good but that still does not return a feeling of solidity. Overall it was a very good lens, I deliberately use the past because currently despite the features there are currently preferable options in RF counterparts with related bodies.
sent on 30 Aprile 2023 Pros: Very good focal length range for an APS-C (sure, starting from 15mm ... Dreaming can you right?), light, compact, with a reasonable yield. Cons: Both new and used still costs a lot, but with a single lens you do a bit of everything. Opinion: I received it after returning the first version, the one marked simply "IS" and received from a seller who didn't even know what he was selling: this is another world. This model has autofocus, and the MAF is fast and silent even if sometimes it sticks a little and you have to press the shutter button two or three times to get the focus (it happened to me photographing a rapeseed field moved by the wind). It's dark, unfortunately it starts from 18mm and not 15mm, it's a bit plastic, but it still has a very useful range on APS-C, and allows you to do almost everything with a single lens. Accustomed to the FF with L-optics, the difference can be seen in everything, but this, together with the 50D, will allow me to go MTB (in his padded bag), and take home photos even on these occasions. Edit after the first close-up session with the 50D: used to doing close-up with either the Canon 100L or the Canon 28-300L, the difference in use is "remarkable". When the subject is at the limit of the minimum distance of MAF and there is a little air to move the flowers, the AF is no longer effective: it often sticks and cannot focus, and you have to try several times. The only one is to move away about ten cm and then it starts working well again. This could also depend on the AF module of the 50D, but when I wrote it was the only APS-C I owned. Edit after taking an 80D instead of the 50D: AF much faster and more accurate, even in close-up. The uncertainties seen with the 50D disappear with subjects at normal distances, and are greatly reduced in close-up, it is possible that the remaining hesitations depend on subjects below the minimum distance of MAF (I have not measured with the meter).
sent on 13 Luglio 2021 Pros: All-rounder lens with excellent focal range Cons: Not very bright and not very sharp Opinion: Rating 6. This lens disappointed me slightly because I was expecting better image quality. It is definitely a comfortable lens for travel, although it weighs a little too much for my taste. I sold it after a year of use, in 2018 because I switched to mirrorless from Sony and Pansonic. I never regretted the choice.
sent on 22 Giugno 2020 Pros: Good focal excursion - (almost) all-rounder - fast- good sharpness Cons: lacks lampshade - limited brightness (3.5 - 5.6) but understandable, proportionate to price Opinion: I use it mainly in the mountains but I had the opportunity to use it also on the road and solves most situations. the sharpness is appreciable despite not being an L-series lens. It has a considerable weight but is understandable for the type of optics. It has a good stabilization and for me that I take it to the mountains is indispensable (difficult to carry an easel for hours...) - Maybe it distorts a little to the extreme wide angle but you have to consider that it is not a specific goal. Overall in my opinion it deserves a "9" vote
sent on 03 Novembre 2019 Pros: Autofocus really very fast, precise and quiet, also suitable for video, stabilizer, presence of zoom lock keypad, general appreciable yield to be a handyman, images sufficiently sharp from f5.6 to 11. Cons: Wide-angle distortion, weight an excessive but justified hair, not tropicalized with tendency to suck powder also due to the lack of glass in the bayonet, not very bright especially from half focal excursion onwards, flares and chromatic aberrations. Opinion: New taken alongside the Canon 80D, finally a "kit all-rounder" lens appreciable unlike the basic and limited 18-55: this lens is a little more suitable both at the optical level and at the level of focal excursion with its 135 mm, and above all it is a bomb at the level of autofocus: the Nano USM is very precise, very fast and very quiet, therefore suitable for dynamic photos and also for videos, and usable even in the evening. Sharpness and overall yield are also appreciable for basic uses or afternoon outings, good from f5.6 to f11. Chromatic aberrations are everywhere, but especially at the edges, but with lightroom correction the photos are usable, the stabilizer is excellent and allows me to take freehand without moving up to 1/10 and without micromosso up to 1/15. Distortion, especially in wide angles, however, is its weak point combined with the tendency to suck powder. Ultimately it is a lens that for its versatility I love, and I use it as a handyman in the outings where I want to have fun shooting trains, landscapes and occasional photos without having to bring other lenses. For the band in which you place your vote is a full 8! Recommended to kit with machines such as 70D and 80D.
sent on 24 Maggio 2019 Pros: Autofocus, Construction, quality Cons: Length at 135mm, Lens hood Opinion: It is a lens that, in spite of everything, I love it. I got it in the Kit with the 77D and I use it for over two years. He always gave me good votes with excellent colors. Unfortunately the aperture of the diaphragm is the only thing that limits it... As soon as the light decreases a bit, the best thing to do is to remove it from the machine and put something brighter. The autofocus is a real bomb.. No mistake, it is very fast and ultra quiet.. Also recommended for those who want to make videos, since there is also the stabilizer. As I wrote above I think 135mm is a little too long.. And unfortunately like all Canon lenses excluding L-series, the lens hood and to buy apart.
sent on 09 Maggio 2019 Pros: -All make light, stabilized, excellent sharpness for a whole do, imperceptible focus silent! -with dual pixel of the M50 goes to the big stra. Cons: Let me think.... Nobody! It is clear that it is f/3.5-5.6 But it is born not to be compared with the 17-55 f/2.8. Opinion: If I had been told that it was so I really would not even believe it, to date I have 3 objectives: 22mm F/2, 50mm f/1.8 and this. To date if you ask me what goals would you recommend x APSC canon? The 18-135 is USM is the first on the list, an all make that was my biggest surprise (paid on the new €259 Bay with 4 year warranty!!!!!!) I did not have high expectations, but cabbage in outer I will hardly use another goal! I use it with the M50 + adapter, it is less cumbersome d than you can think and it is also very light! I'll give you a simple example, I got the EF-M 18-150, well I think it's bad in comparison, at the outrageous sides and the central sharpness gets to F/8. This on the sides is really really good, and a f/5.6 does its duty!!! It is clear to Ta do not ask too much, but in external will be my first lens to 100%. Effective stabilizer, and autofocus is the quietest ever heard. I will use it at 100% also for videos in the pool, recite and skating. Rating? As everything do to APSC I do not know if there is any better, for what is designed so do not compare it to the 17-55 f/2.8 eh (this is for little light), I give 9 definitely.
sent on 12 Aprile 2019 Pros: Excellent Construction for an EFS Cons: I Don't see any... For Adesoo Opinion: I Use this lens for a week on 7d Mk2 and Eos Rp.... For me it is fantastic especially on EOS Rp... For now I have not put it to the whip in particular light conditions... But also in the evening at dusk and fantastic... Thinking that and a whole do and use it on Ape C is full frame I can't say it's great. The smoothness of the zoom is equal to the L-series.... Fill it
sent on 14 Novembre 2018 Pros: Image quality, excellent stabiliser, AF Lightning Cons: Not very bright. Opinion: Taken in kit more than anything else for the curiosity of the Nano-USM. I was pleasantly impressed by the quality of the image, I feared the usual optics from kits, to try and resell after a few weeks, instead I decided to keep it. Great to go out with camera and only one goal. The Nano-USM surprised me, it goes from very close to infinity in a fraction of a second. In short, for what you pay in kit, is a lens to have absolutely.
sent on 03 Gennaio 2018 Pros: Value for money, focal excursion, stabilizer Cons: maybe a little 'bright from a certain point onwards, for the rest ... excellent Opinion: My first lens, mounted as standard on the 60D gave me the opportunity to look for my point of view. The amplitude of the focal excursion made it easy to understand if I liked being in the scene or taking it from afar. Used in Africa for street and safari (although with many limitations in this second situation) has really given me beautiful pictures, not of the highest level, but always very clear.
sent on 20 Novembre 2017 Pros: Wide focal excursion, excellent stabilizer, relatively low weight, value for money Cons: Light distortion in wide-angle, slightly bright from mid-focus onwards Opinion: After the full frame transition, a young girl in the family asked me if she could use her "old" 1200D: the project to sell everything has changed to "I sell all aps-c fixed optics and look for a versatile zoom." I found it at a price that said "now or never again" and I took it on the fly. After the first shots with chandeliers, furniture, paintings, and wherever the enthusiasm was brought, I brought the new "pupil" in the middle of nature to start making some more reliable proof. Even after a few dozen freehand I really enjoyed an extremely effective stabilizer, a very quick and silent autofocus, a flare-resistance more than satisfactory, an unexpectedly good sharpness (especially a little bit of the diaphragm). There is a slight distortion at 18mm and just over, nothing since lightroom corrects it in a click. Light chromatic aberration at the ends, especially in the presence of strong contrast, even qit can be resolved in a moment. Good wide-angle brightness, which, like most "normal" zoom, decreases to 5.6 zodiac. I miss the hood (at least in my case, probably because I took it in "white box") but I solved buying one with just over one euro!
sent on 26 Giugno 2017 Pros: Good image quality Cons: Heavy and not very bright Opinion: I bought this lens for my Canon 100d to have a non-bulky lens with a good focal length for travels. As long as this is fine, however, the lens is a bit heavy and unbalanced in the car and needs to play a lot on the big Iso . However in the correct exposure the lens returns great quality images and 135mm magnification is more than satisfactory. They also have the autofocus that proves quick. For those who like me a Canon 18-55mm IS STM is a leap of quality In the image and sharpness ..
sent on 14 Febbraio 2017 Pros: Stabilizer color rendering sharpness Cons: maybe a little dark ... Opinion: I took this lente..e mounted on eos 70d, and I immediately saw the quality of the picture, good quality color, making the accurate colors, good sharpness, the only comment I can make is that there is a "light" but perhaps it is a feature of the aps-c .. even the stabilizer is very good lens funzionale..un handyman, a good traveling companion ...
