sent on 11 Gennaio 2015 Pros: Double the focal length, improved AF performance and quality compare to 2x MK II TC, good quality even in low light. Cons: Canon make very bad move not allowing to stitch the 1,4x and 2x TC, which was possible with the Mark II edition, loosing some light and AF performance Opinion: I use it almost full time with my EF 300mm f2.8L IS USM lens and I am really happy with the results. I recommend upgrade from MK II version of the 2x TC. I guess is much better with the MK II lens, but I am still satisfied with it now. Had to agree the quality is much better with this two on a FF body like 5D MK III, but I am expecting that the 7D MK II will make this lens and extender a hot couple even on crop sensor.
sent on 09 Gennaio 2013 Pros: -Surprising high image quality for a 2X extender -High build quality, water resistant. Cons: -autofocus with the 2x extender is disabled on F5.6 lenses such as the 400mm 5.6L, though you can actually autofocus through live view mode using contrast detection. -strong purple fringing at times when subject is against the sky. You can work around this be turning the saturation down on the purple color though. -soft at the wide open aperature. Stop down one click (one third of a stop) and most of the softness goes away. Opinion: I have a Canon 5D Mark II. Using the 2x extender III on the Canon 400mm 5.6L is the cheapest way to get to 800mm using Canon L series lenses. The 400mm lens can be bought refurbished for 1000$ and the extender is around 450$ on sale. 1450$ for 800mm is very good value. Checkout my eagle pictures on my profile to see the image quality. As i mentioned, I recommend stopping down one third of a stop to get more sharpness. For example, if you are using the 2x extender on a 2.8 lens, the aperature will now be F5.6. Stop down to F6.3 for sharper results. I usually shoot at F13 on my 400mm 5.6 lens. UPDATE FEB 2013: I have been now using the 2x extender with the 135mm F2 and the 24-105mm. Yes you can used the 2x extender with the 24-105mm if you place extension tubes in between. see my macro photo of the wedding ring.
sent on 29 Settembre 2022 Pros: Excellent in combination with the 500 L f4 II IS. Cons: Nothing for the use I make of it. Opinion: I mount it on the EF 500 L f4 ISII and 1DX3 and I'm really happy about it. I get a nice 1000 that maintains a good sharpness and a very good af. I do not use the monopod and the weight is felt, but the result forgives everything. I took pictures in different light conditions (sun, rain, covered) and they always satisfied me. In my MotoGP gallery some examples. I also use the 1.4x and the differences in af / sharpness yield are really minimal.
sent on 13 Novembre 2021 Pros: Well built and tropicalized Cons: Nobody Opinion: I use it with the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS II, the performance I find, at full aperture F5.6 400mm, higher than the "pompone" 100-400, sharp, more contrasted and AF slightly faster than the old 100-400. No AC on my 1DX, very high level performance, paid the necessary to have a level yield and, above all, no mechanical game
sent on 01 Maggio 2021 Pros: Tropicalization, construction, loss of sharpness not particularly marked Cons: A few qualitative decay at the edges, purple fringing on some machines. Opinion: I have had it for about 5 years and have been able to test it extensively. It's almost a fixed pair with 100-400 II. I find it to be a great extender, both as a construction and as an optical quality. Of course, some compromises must be accepted in terms of detail, but, especially in the middle of the frame, quality remains entirely acceptable, not to say very good. On canon 70D the pairing featured purple fringing around certain subjects, on canon R5 I no longer know this problem. Autofocus also works safely on mirrorless. It worked decently even on sony adapted with metabones, now on R5 goes that it's a splinter. On reflex, on the other hand, once the lens was mounted it became practically only manual focus.
sent on 11 Ottobre 2017 Pros: quality, yield, weight, clutter. Cons: nobody .... price? Opinion: taken used ... but equal to the new ... just recently, I took it to match it to 70/200 2,8 is II, I did not notice any differneze rendering or autofocus details when using the 70/200 alone or in pairs. I bought it because I had the old pompone 100/400 but, despite being satisfied, I had to go around with 70/200 and 100/400 to cover the focals up to 400 (hence two beautiful heavy targets + the rest of the etc.), with the 2x 2x extender I solved the problem, weighs a bit, is not very compact and with the 70/200 2,8 series 2 it has a great output with both 5dmk3 and 1dmk3.
sent on 18 Agosto 2017 Pros: You can have a twin focus with a small object. Great construction, good optical quality. Cons: In addition to those known, the presence of light chromatic aberrations. Opinion: The 2x is of great and undeniable utility, having in its full size, the ability to stretch its optics consistently, has no price. The design quality is great, I personally used it on the 70/200 and the 300 isII. The 70/200 suffers the presence of the tc, the quality drops considerably even in good light conditions, but you do not think to replace the 400 5.6L, which gives the best results for AF speed, no color aberrations and Best optical quality. The 300 2.8 isII also has a loss of sharpness, but the quality is still good, but not excellent. For those who dream of using this tc on a darker view of his, I absolutely recommend this operation, a 400 5.6 would become a 800 f11 with no af and with unacceptable quality (unless you are intent on doing astronomical photos)
sent on 19 Aprile 2017 Pros: Build quality, optical output, and AC tropicalisation Cons: You can not mount it on all lenses as some compatible nor cascaded with another multiplier as did the series II Opinion: I replaced the Canon 2X II series with this series III. Tried to bottom along with the Canon 300 f / 2.8 IS, the new multiplier behaves considerably better than the chromatic precedente.rnL'aberrazione has decreased significantly, almost completely assente.rnLa practical use optical quality is very good and the average of focus shots it is greatly increased compared with the old optics multiplied serie.rnAnche the AF is more reactive than that preciso.rnL'unica thing I would like is to be able to also use other lenses that are currently exploitable only multipliers with third parti.rnAlberto
sent on 08 Marzo 2015 Pros: Build quality, weather sealing. Cons: no one Opinion: I use it for a week with the 70-200 f / 2.8 L USM II.Perde two stops, true, but what about the AF speed, I have not noticed big slowdowns, anzi.E image quality remains at the highest level. rnih conclusion, I am very happy with the purchase.
sent on 23 Settembre 2014 Pros: Quality construction, duplicates the focal-D Cons: price Opinion: I'm not a great lover of focal doublers ... Despite this I have always had one, since I am in Canon ... rnLo kept practically fixed on the Sigma 120-300 OS, one of the few zoom bear it, and I sold as soon as I sold quest'ottica.rnPreso the Canon 600 f4 IS the first set, I had the curiosity to prove it over and I bought the second copy, but it did not go well ... the multiplier worked fine, but on 1DIV and 5DIII the yield of the 600 I was not satisfied and so I rivenduto.rnQuando I switched to 1DX, I have taken back the curiosity and I bought the third Canon 2xIII ... and this time it went! : -DrnNonostante The doubler the picture is very engraved (especially around f13) and AF, although slowed down, it still manages to seguire.rnPer me the Canon 2xIII is a kind of necessary evil: I try to never use it, but when need is great to know that there is, that is as sturdy as a piece of steel, which is weather sealed ... rnCosta expensive, but allows otherwise impossible shots.
sent on 11 Agosto 2014 Pros: quality, autofocus with lenses series II, to tropical Cons: price Opinion: I purchased it for use with the Canon 70-200 F / 2.8L IS USM II and the Canon 300 F / 4 L IS USM. The autofocus on the 70-200 is very fast and accurate returning images really very beautiful and thereby becoming a 140-400 F / 5.6. On the 300 F / 4 I lose autofocus with the 6D (F / 8) but working in manual I can bring home good shots. And 'certainly recommended on all the objectives of series II, alternatively 2x Series 2 costs a lot less.
sent on 11 Giugno 2014 Pros: Sharpness, autofocus, overall image quality. Cons: Nothing. Opinion: Compared to the previous version have made quite a number of important steps, but the differences can be seen well only on very recent paintings. I use the 70-200 2.8 IS II (the only one of 70-200 that digests well 2X) and I must say that the results are really good, there is no comparison with the coupled smooth 70-200 2.8 and 2X II / III. Excellent overall performance, minimum drop in sharpness. The autofocus is slower but when the light is good, there are no major problems. Works even better with fixed (300 2.8, 400 2.8 ... 500/600 f4 for those who have a mark III or a series 1d and then wants to keep the AF). rnrnIl price? I paid 419 euro new, shop and Italian warranty. To double the focal length of your telephoto L series seems OK.
sent on 27 Maggio 2014 Pros: speed autofocus with new super telephoto camera bodies and Cons: for use with older model or super telephoto camera bodies, the price. Opinion: During a quick test done during a journey through the Canon 2x tc (2nd and 3rd version) and the Sigma, I noticed that with a friend at the center of the frame sharpness was better than the Sigma then in my possession. Tests done on a tripod, the same conditions, but with autofocus enabled, and for lack of time I checked the accuracy thereof, it shall yield the edges. From that test, I changed my camera, leaving the asp-c and arriving at a aps-h (1D Mark IV) and a FF (5D mark III). I preferred, however, migrate from Sigma Canon this, especially for the speed autofocus with the 5D mark III. And trying the 1DX a friend of mine I had the confirmation of the visible and appreciable improvement of this combination (1DX tc + 2X 400 f2.8 IS II + III). PS: If you do not have the combination of new and new super telephoto camera, rate it for quality / price ratio plus a compatible (Kenko / Sigma), rather than this model.
sent on 13 Agosto 2013 Pros: Minimal degradation of the image quality of a closing stop, tropical conditions drastically reduced chromatic aberration. Cons: You will lose 2 stops of brightness, in some lenses the autofocus slows down considerably. Opinion: I use it often on 500 f 4 is and the image quality is very high returns (closed at least af 9), l 'f slows down significantly: with the airborne it takes a little handle to get good results. Mounted on 70-200 2.8 II instead, the af is very fast, the degradation in terms of quality is little, but still greater than in the 500 f 4 is probably due to the different risolvenza of 2 ottiche.rnIn Ultimately, the board strongly to those who have high-quality super-telephoto (400 2.8, 500 f 4, 600 f 4, both series 1 and 2) and those with a 70-200 f 2.8 II for occasional hunting or photographic outdoor sports.
sent on 18 Marzo 2013 Pros: Sharpness, vignetting and chromatic absence of abberazione Cons: Price Opinion: I soldered the 2X extender series III to my Canon 300 f 2.8 for pictures of birds, and the only caosa that I can look in the negative, is the normal slowdown in focus. The multiplier is weather sealed and rugged construction. In cobinazione used by me (with both APS-C and FF) closing at f / 8 there are abberazioni color, vignetting, and pictures are very sharp. Worth all the money it costs. Very recommended!
sent on 30 Settembre 2012 Pros: data transmission between camera and optics, little loss of sharpness, impervious to water and dust ..... a perfect radoppiatore x who has to run and can not afford to carry around lenses fixed to 2.8 Cons: I have yet to find any defect Opinion: If you are not fixed lenses from 2.8 (300-400mm), and you can not get close to the subjects that interest you, then he is the perfect compromise x derived from a 2x doubler. The loss of detail is minimal compared to the previous model and is able to make good performance even in low light. Solid and well attaches to the car to look like one with it. Stuck between the 7d and 400 2.8 (mine is not the latest series), reaches the focal length of 1100mm and over only f5, 6 ... is the stuff of pure chills if you think that the canon 1200mm weighs 16kg .......
sent on 22 Agosto 2012 Pros: Total lack of aberrations and vignetting, much less the other 2x. A hair sharper especially at the edges. Cons: The price. Fortunately some sample used is. Opinion: It 's the best 2x multiplier never tried it, but as obvious as it is, does not do miracles. Always a 2x it. Its construction is excellent and also to look inside you immediately notice that the work done by canon is good. As I said, has the great merit of not adding any type of aberration and does not increase significantly vignetting. Already these two small attentions that make your photos look like sharper and more microcontrastate especially compared to those made with the previous series 2x II. Of sharpness in the most effective, though there is not much more, a hair yes, but not enough to justify the outlay double. Obvious that if, like me, you find it used and if you're maniacs IQ, this 2x compared to the other something more from him. Of course, it should be used with lenses of a certain caliber, or it will cost more than the multiplier that lens!
