Pros: Compactness, lightness, ridiculous price (used), unexpected optical quality.

Cons: Relative to my sample: at 2.8 it underexposes by 1/2 stop, need for autofocus calibration due to visible back focus.

Opinion: I bought this lens exclusively for its negligible weight and size, replacing it (coupling it with the 50 mm 1.8 stm) to the 24-105 mm L series even though I risked, reading the various reviews, to meet an optical quality that was not the best. Still having the 24-105 L series I was able to do a test, from which it emerged that at 24 mm the zoom gave a definition to the corners much lower than those of the fixed, and this to all apertures, making the angles of the fixed at aperture 2.8 higher even than those at aperture 5.6 of the zoom, which, however, proved to be slightly superior to the center. The speed of the autofocus is, although noisier, perfectly comparable (but perhaps higher) than that of the 50 stm, and the color rendering is nothing short of exceptional. I don't understand why any test or review I've read on the net everyone agrees in defining this lens as obsolete, antiquated and not at all reliable in terms of sharpness. As mentioned above, and in agreement with some test results found online, the only negative point I found is that the lens needed to correct the centering point of the autofocus, making it immediately evident a back focus problem on short and medium distance focus (on Canon 6D). For the rest, I find it the only product equivalent and comparable in price and quality to the EF S 24 mm STM, which, however, is not usable on ff. The alternative could have been the EF 24 mm f/2.8 IS, but in the used the latter you can find it exactly twice as much as the non-IS version, which is also very little available compared to its more recent brother. I can only evaluate this perspective with a full 9.

Pros: Lightweight, compact, economical and discreet

Cons: Maybe it lacks a little in fluidity of the AF, it is not exactly the latest generation, but it does not suffer.

Opinion: I have been using this little "gem" for a long time and I am really surprised. I say "gem" not because it can be combined with the super emblazoned L series, we would miss them (there are very different costs / weights / quality / targets) but because for what it costs it objectively has a remarkable quality / price / usability ratio. Specifically I really like its portability, when I travel you do not feel in the backpack, and falls into that category of objectives that you can use "battle" because if by chance it is ruined while looking for that shot that at all costs you want to take home, peace and amen, a more than digitous end. I recommend it to all those who need to have minimal optics in size, very light and portable, which do not engage you so much when you take them, for example, on the road (I believe that no amateur would take the L series on trips at risk of "theft" or "loss" when he has objectives like this available) For me to have in the kit

Pros: Lightweight, good quality materials, contained distortion, good yield at medium aperture.

Cons: "Old-fashioned" Autofocus, made at full aperture.

Opinion: Bought used by a forum user. My experience is mostly on FF but it remains optics widely usable even on Aps-C. It is a lens that from its best to medium aperture, at f 2.8 in little bright places does not satisfy me. Lens hood indispensable given the focal length. If you find in the used a good copy remains a good option even if you have to keep in mind in case of breakage the availability of spare parts. Light and very practical, the autofocus is that of those years.....

Pros: Quite clear, imperceptible distortion, controlled vignetting, is small and light

Cons: Colors less saturated than other Canon, and a bit cold, loud noises

Opinion: Taken used many years ago, it gave me great satisfaction and opened a world on film. I did some trips with me only this 24 f2.8 and 50 f1.8, with my trusted Eos 50E (prehistoric!). The Eos 5D Old has been heavily penalized by a rather marked back-focusing, which in practice has led me to limit its use to closed landscape diapers (f8-f11). The problem is fortunately solved with the 5D MkII, on which the BF was immediately revealed to be more content (mysteries ...) and in any case it was totally correctable with the micro-regulation AF (-7, and now it's perfect). Loved just now, like 50 f1.8, because of the Lilliputian dimensions, which make it stand in a pocket and when you mount it on the car many look at you strange as if missing something. Unlike 50, however, necessarily requires the hood (its dedicated is petals, very nice), which reduces its punctuality. The yield is already discrete in TA, where it is actuallyUsable, although the best comes to f4, where the engraving is really great, as well as f5.6, where they further improve the margins. A f5.6-f8-f11 detail at a frame angle (if not completely out of focus) on 100% pc monitors looks as sharp as those in the center of the frame. In fact, the best quality of this Objective is the uniformity of rendering and the excellent correction: the distortion is virtually imperceptible (not bad for a 24mm designed almost thirty years ago ...), and it is surprisingly limited also the vignetting, already in TA, so that it disappears Totally f4rnThe AF is dated, slow and noisy (cric-tic), but for me this is not a problem. RnPace for color rendering, visibly less saturated and somewhat cold than Canon standards (in fact It may depend on the front lens, which is visually slightly blue), which according to my tastes forces me intoPlan to PP on this aspect in almost all shots. How do I vote for 9 and not 10 for this, and how much did I make back-focusing with the 5D mkI: I was used to focusing on a point closer than the subject ... rn

Pros: Lightweight, acettabile sharpness and low cost.

Cons: is only a 2.8, resistance to flare, AC

Opinion: Bought used to explore the 24 mm on FF. Do not regret it, I got to try it durnate two outputs and it does its job. Mounted on a 5d2 sharpness is good even at room temperature. It 's small and light, the construction seems solid, excellent ring MAF with the scale of the distance to work in iperocale. Low distortion is removed easily. Blurred soft and pleasant. You notice a bit of AC easily removed with PS. Suffers a bit of flare in backlit and is only a 2.8. Absolutely fantastic with the video, closing a little bit we do not even need to worry about focuse!

Pros: Sharp already at room temperature, light and bright, cheap

Cons: Af noisy and a bit slow, slow enough front "vulnerable", we recommend a lens hood

Opinion: I bought this lens used for 80 €, I use it on my 50D and returns sharp images already at f2, 8. I keep it almost always mounted when I go around purposes "non-photo" and I must say that I really enjoy shooting with this lens. In low light the AF a little effort but since when was it is more than plausible. In situations of high contrast suffers from chromatic aberrations that are not far from solved in PP. For a non pro is a valid alternative to big brother L which costs significantly more. I bought the first of a "long" series of drives that I would like to put in the kit, 24mm 35mm 50mm 85mm

Pros: Compact, Light, Bright, Sharp, economic

Cons: AF dated, but precise, AC

Opinion: THE EF 24 f/2.8 lens is a little "evaluated" by most, good wide angle for FF quite bright (f/2.8) considered the cost and what can rstituire in terms of image quality already at room temperature, I would say very much fine. Great colors, slight vignetting at f/2.8 and corrected the Post-Production, little distortion for those who can not afford the brother EF 24 f/1.4 L II, this is a great glass ...
