Caradriidi (Charadriidae) - Corrieri, Fratini, Pavoncelle e Pivieri

Tutti più o meno legati agli ambienti acquatici, sono uccelli dalle dimensioni medio-piccole, con corpi compatti, becco e collo corti, ali lunghe ed appuntite. I pesi e le lunghezze, del corpo e delle gambe, variano a seconda della specifica specie, così come la dieta, la quale però in generale si può dire costituita da insetti, vermi e altri piccoli invertebrati. L'azione di caccia solitamente è cosituita da rapide corse con arresti improvvisi. Corse rapide ed esibizioni aeree sono utilizzate, nel periodo riproduttivo, sia per le parate nuziali sia per la difesa del territorio.
