Cimitero delle fontanelle

Il cimitero delle Fontanelle (in napoletano 'O campusanto d' 'e Funtanelle) è un antico cimitero della città di Napoli, situato in via Fontanelle. Chiamato in questo modo per la presenza in tempi remoti di fonti d'acqua, il cimitero accoglie 40.000 resti[3] di persone, vittime dell'epidemia di peste nel 1656 e di colera del 1836. Il cimitero è molto noto anche perché vi si svolgeva un particolare rito, detto delle "anime pezzentelle", che prevedeva l'adozione e la sistemazione di un cranio (detta «capuzzella»),[4] al quale corrispondeva un'anima abbandonata («pezzentella» quindi)[4] in cambio di protezione.
