Lidia (Ropalidia fasciata)

La Ropalidia fasciata e' una vespa cartaia. Queste piccole vespe sono lunghe circa 8 mm. Normalmente non pungono. Le uova sono visibili all'interno del nido di carta. Di solito si tratta di una piccola colonia formata da un'unica femmina. Queste vespe primitivamente eusociali sono uniche nel loro genere, in quanto non presentano la rigida struttura sociale matrifiliale, con una sola regina, presente in molte specie di insetti sociali. Invece, le colonie sono fondate sulla base di associazioni tra diverse femmine, o "fondatrici". Gli individui di una colonia condividono abitualmente il cibo tra loro. Una vespa trasferisce nettare o acqua con la bocca a un'altra vespa per rigurgito.
