50° Stormo....

L'aeroporto militare "Gaetano Mazza", costruito nel 1938 e situato nel comune di San Giorgio Piacentino (PC) in prossimità della frazione San Damiano, dispone di una pista in asfalto lunga 2990 metri. Per anni fu base operativa del glorioso 50° Stormo Caccia Bombardieri che ha ospitato sino al 14 Settembre 2016 giorno in cui, il comandante uscente, il colonnello navigatore Vincenzo Ruggiero, ha letto l'atto di “soppressione del 50° Stormo dell'Aeronautica Militare” durante la cerimonia di addio dei Tornado Ecr. destinati all'aeroporto di Ghedi. Attualmente il Distaccamento Aeroportuale Piacenza ha funzioni logistiche, è comandato dal tenente colonnello Francesco Rossi e, in occasione dei festeggiamenti per il centenario dell'Aeronautica Militare (28 marzo 2023), ha riaperto le sue porte al pubblico.
