SUNDEK
SUNDEK – the unbearable lightness of being.
The holiday is a bubble of existence, an open space of fluid possibilities, detached from the rigidity of everyday roles and positions. Holidays are a bit like photographs. We can say that they didn't turn out well; but, deep down, they always look like us.
The tropical sun and a small group of Italians on holiday who share the limited spaces of a diving cruise boat. Semi-serious scenes of a “photographic B-movie” that winks at the feature films of the tricolor seaside comedy, a film genre that was born in the 50s but that reaches its kitsch apotheosis in the 80s and 90s with Vanzina's films “, and some small homage to a great Italian photographer who passed away. Luigi Ghirri.
The gaze catches the contradictions hidden in this forced amusement factory, in this yuppie style quite anachronistic but at the same time so intensely folkloristic.
Bittersweet portraits of the inhabitants of the “Belpaese”, between moments of leisure, and rest
under the dazzling white light of a boat's sundek.
"Summer is ending and a year goes by, I'm getting old even if I don't want to..."
The musical duo Righeira sang in 1985.
