Universo di Pietra

Tra il X ed il XIII secolo dell'era volgare una fervente attività costruttiva interessò l'intero paesaggio europeo, donando ad ogni città la sua Cattedrale, ad ogni borgo la sua Chiesa. Romanico fu chiamato questo primo stile architettonico unitario dell'Europa Occidentale che non solo alzava le sue cattedrali di pietra, ma ne adornava di sculture le facciate e i portali, ne modellava i capitelli sulle colonne delle navate e dei chiostri e in tal modo narrava la paura e la speranza, il peccato e la santità, il premio ed il castigo, e spalancava dinanzi agli occhi di tutti un vero Universo di Pietra.
