Cittanova, Il mio Paese. I Luoghi

Mi piace Cittanova, il mio paese; che vedo ormai soltanto in cartolina: una ridente e mite cittadina, alla buona, così, senza pretese; Tanto che ancor (pur se già comincia ad avere un ginnasio, a quel che sento) non s' è rivolta anch' essa al Parlamento per esser capoluogo di provincia. Fra distese di vigne, d' uliveti, e d' orti dai balsamici profumi essa produce vino, olio ed agrumi avvocati, filosofi e poeti. E il buon sole d' Attica è ancor vivo fra la sua gente estrosa e scanzonata che saggiamente vive alla giornata in un mondo tranquillo e primitivo. E spesso per le strade di Milano fra turbe serie, indaffarate ed arcigne io penso a quelle gente e a quelle vigne come ad un sogno placido e lontano. E salgo verso Zomaro; l' Incudine selvaggia mi sorride all'improvviso... Se qualche volta sogno un paradiso è il paradiso della solitudine. Ed è perciò che dopo quarant' anni di tanto in tanto, medito il ritorno pur se non troverò, tornando un giorno, la mamma, il babbo ed il vecchio zio Giovanni....
