Reviews of cameras, lenses, tripods, heads and other accessories written by Andrzej Kocot

venus_laowa_17mftVenus Laowa 17mm f/1.8 MFT

Pros: Excellent lens for astrophoto landscapes with the Milky Way in the background. It vignettes and there is visible coma on the edges of the frame, but that doesn't mean much compared to its brightness and the nature of the photos you get.

Cons: It vignettes and there is visible coma on the edges of the frame.

Opinion: The Milky Way photographed over Daleszyce from Radlin near Kielce (about 10 km from the center of Kielce and 8 km from Daleszyce) Bortle Class 4 - hence the strong backlighting of the clouds. I had to wait for dusk to fall and manage to take the photos before the moonrise. You need a lot of care in understanding how to take such photos, preferably as one long exposure - then we get closer to the ideal of conveying this mood and emotion when we look at the majesty of the Milky Way and feel the presence of God. I tested the Laowa 17mm f/1.8 ( 35mm FF ) manual lens for the first time, photographing the Milky Way using the MSM astrotracker. I carefully selected the next longer exposure times - gradually reducing the ISO. I also tested the white balance settings. What came out with a time of 4 minutes (exactly 241 seconds), ISO 200 and white balance CWB 2900 K and aperture f/1.8 - is in this photo. I was hoping to get good photos, so as to at least approach the level of Nikon D3S (which I took photos with in September last year - the equipment was borrowed), or other excellent quality photos taken with very expensive systems of the Nikon Z series, Canon R, Canon 5D, SONY R, SONY S. Well, you can see for yourself, what came out - in my opinion it is fantastic and can boldly compete with the best photos of the Milky Way. Technically, the entire set with the astrotracker was first precisely leveled, and then set with a laser to the pole (Polar Star). In the next step I focused on the stars - manually using 14x magnification and focusing on the smallest clear circle of bright stars - without blurring them - then the focus is set perfectly. I also used the remote shutter release (JJC) to eliminate any vibrations. In addition to the MSM astro tracker , the Astrotracker was set on a parallactic wedge (MSM Precision Polar Alignment Wedge), and between the camera and the rotator I used the MSM Z plate (360° Flex Pan and Tilt Head - Z Mount), Benro Mach3 TMA 47AXL tripod. What can I say, the potential of this cheap lens is little known and not used - that's what I changed by showing you this photo.

Pros: Everything you need to make photography a joy.

Cons: No disadvantages if you know how to use it in deep settings and can use the capabilities of lenses.

Opinion: Excellent quality of photos, photos have a "soul", they can convey mood and emotions, and this is the most important thing in photography. It is a camera for a photographer whose passion is photography. In my opinion, the best Olympus camera, and perhaps the best camera in general. Every time I take pictures with it, I can't wait to see what will surprise me again.

Pros: Enables accurate framing.

Cons: I could not work vertically on the Milky Way's pictures at the zenith (or I was in trouble because of lack of skills)

Opinion: I use 9 months, mounted on the OBO Copact Light BS2551 stand for the lightweight O-MD E-M10 MK II set. The adjustment of the shifting force in the 2 axes is excellent, it allows for smooth adjustment (the third axis has no pressure regulation). The relatively large mass ensures high payload and stability of work. Aesthetic performance. Bag handles are convenient for transport. The rubber elements are pleasant to the touch. Work at night is intuitive, the knobs are ergonomically placed. Very good for me.

olympus_mzuiko_75_f1-8Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm f/1.8

Pros: A phenomenal lens, fantastically sharp, with brilliant background blur (soft bokeh), construction quality.

Cons: There is no, he could have a cover.

Opinion: Absolutely the perfect lens - the best. I have been using it for 5 months and it meets all expectations that I associated with it. I bought it for body E-M10 Mk II as a portrait crop (discreet portrait on the distance), macro and landscape photos as a short bright tele. The first pictures in good light came out beautifully. He can generate unique, nostalgic images. I'm still learning it and I'm counting on new discoveries of its use.

olympus_mzuiko12-40proOlympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO

Pros: Great workmanship, compact solid construction, bright and fast, very sharp photos from the full aperture f / 2.8, comfortable and handy for me, MF clutch, practical and versatile.

Cons: I have not found and I think I will not find.

Opinion: Perfect sharp lens. I have been using it for 5 months and it meets all expectations that I associated with it. I bought it for a body E-M10 Mk II as a wide-angle lens for photos of the night sky, Milky Way and landscape. I'm still learning it and I'm counting on new discoveries of its use. A great advantage is the possibility of min. sharpening already from 0.2 m.
