sigma_17-40_f1-8Sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 DC Art

Pros: Weight, Sharpness, Colors, Physical aperture ring, excellent quality blur, lightning-fast and precise AF.

Cons: The aperture ring is too far back, almost close to the bayonet, and is a bit awkward to use compared to GM lenses. Blurred at 1.8 not much compared to FF, but maybe it's a pro rather than a con?

Opinion: I have owned this lens since August 2025, purchased first of all to pair it with the Sony fx30, then for video, and then because I have always been fascinated by the apsc world from the point of view of size and weight, in fact sony with the nex series was going in the right direction then we arrived at tiny FF cameras and giant optics. Going back to fx30 and 17-40 I have to say that I'm super happy with it. It's a winning combination, for me the ultimate weapon. With just over 1kg of total weight between camera body and lens, during weddings you can work comfortably and lightly and therefore even better. Of course, the qualities of this lens don't stop at the weight. I was also able to appreciate them in the photographic field by coupling it with a Sony A7rIII, with which I shoot events at 18MPX. Here too, lightness and versatility have no comparison with any other lens, adding a battery grip even with a single battery the whole system is well balanced. Wonderful blurred, comparable to GM fixed, very sharp already at TA, closing at 2.8 the image quality is astounding. Compared to fixed FF at the same aperture 1.8, the blur is much less, but this is perhaps the beauty, during events I can always use the lens at 1.8 without being afraid of having too much blur, especially during low light situations shooting safely at 1.8 is priceless. Gorgeous colors, although I must point out that it tends to produce images that are a little warmer than the GM lenses I have. Another pro is the minimum distance of MAF, which allows you to run real macros. A sore point (maybe it's because I use a Sony a7rIII with 1 million shots on it) is that some shots are out of focus, I'll update this point when I have the opportunity to try the lens with more recent cameras such as a7rIV or a6700. Another con is the position of the aperture ring, which thank goodness is present, but often to use it I struggle to insert my hand between the bayonet and the neck of the lens, and I have a small hand! (maybe it's just a matter of habit)

sigma_20_f1-4artSigma 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art

Pros: Sharpness, openness, blurry, constructive quality, versatility and much more.

Cons: Weight, lack of screw filter attachment.

Opinion: This lens really is ART: with this focus and this opening art attack is guaranteed! Let's start from the counter: the weight. But guys a 20mm 1.4 could weigh a lot more. Filters: With all this blur, the lens is not really born for landscape, so it's a counter but not too much. Let's just say that I used this lens mainly with 5dmk4, so canonists take note of what I'm going to say to you - although the sigma dock for calibration, the lens did not ever need adjustments, never miss a shot ! Chapeau! The sharpness already in TA is thrilling on the whole frame, if you even close a bit risking to cut it! Vivid and neutral colors true to the true, stupendous; creamy blur as well as more focal portraits; the pasta of the image is really superb, movie I would say. TA vignetting acceptable for opening, very cute for my taste. Minor distortions and blah blah blah, what matters is the character, and thisSlim has to sell, Good ART at all!
