![]() | Canon EF 500mm f/4.5 L USM Pros: Light weight, optical quality, speed autofocus. Cons: No stabilization, sensitivity to aberrations in backlight (worse than the 300 f/2.8 IS), same story absence spare parts in case of breakage. Opinion: I went from 300 to 500 Is f/2.8 f/4.5. For me it is a fantastic lens! Believe that the perfect focus on aps-C is the 500mm. And 'the right balance between focal and weight for use in freehand. Who's more, with the Kenko 1.4x DGX the pro f continues to run smoothly. The speed af is very close to the 500 f / 4 Is, despite the old age ... I sold it to move to 400 C, but if I had to buy back a telephoto lens to replace my 400 f/5.6 with a limited number, of course not riprenderei 500mm. These are my personal impressions ... sent on July 02, 2012 |
![]() | Canon EF 400mm f/4.0 DO IS USM Pros: Weight, speed AF, image stabilization, robustness, compactness. Cons: Price, lack of contrast in critical lighting. Opinion: Add to what was said by Fabio, a feature of considerable importance. I was able to test for a few hours the 500 f / 4 Is, and I find that the Do 400 with the 1.4x teleconverter has a reactivity in focusing greater than 500mm smooth (using both goals with the focus limiter , not in full). I have not done extensive testing, but I am convinced of what I assert. Actually surprised me. At the end of the day, in the long reflections to choose a specific lens definitive avifauna, I find that the 400 can only be God, and that there are, to date, alternatives. Of course, all favoring my way to photograph without using a tripod and aps-c, otherwise my ratings would be different. Greetings to all ... Ps Although a bit 'ot, I would like to bring another experience on the Canon Ef 500 f / 4 L Is and Canon Ef 500 f/4.5 L (I write here because it is not yet possible to review the old Canon 500mm) . The focus speed of the two 500 in question, I found it very similar in the two objectives. I would expect large differences, however I have found that the evolution of f / 4 was not, in this respect, so relevant ... We will see the new 500 f / 4 II ... sent on October 05, 2011 |
