![]() | Irix 15mm f/2.4 Pros: Focal length, 95mm (slim) filters, design, price Cons: Difficulty in obtaining a decent copy, continuous defects, infinitely useless clicks as they need to be calibrated (fortunately you can), unusable focus lock Opinion: I have owned this lens for both Canon and Sony. Unfortunately, running into a bad copy is very easy with Irix. When you get the decent copy, however, there are few rivals. Being able to use a screw filter on a 15mm is a lot, a lot, a lot of stuff especially for those who also want to do IR photography. The idea of the infinite click is nice, if it weren't for the fact that the infinity focus is not really at infinity that marks the ring. However, the Sony version (I don't remember the Canon version) has the ability to calibrate the focus to infinity using a small screwdriver. The focus lock is unusable: turning the ring to lock the focus it is inevitable to turn the focus ring as well. Unfortunately, the packaging leaves something to be desired, the lens almost always arrives damaged. On my return request I was told "The missing paint on the focus ring is also due to the packaging (this part is the one that bumps the most against the cardboard when the lens moves during transport), although it is usually not so noticeable. I don't think we will be able to find one without any trace. Irix should probably use plastic bags for these lenses. On the other hand, I don't feel like they've ever had packaging that didn't cause problems so far, and we're talking about five different types of boxes and inserts across the range." I don't think there is any need to add anything else. Anyway, I bought it at a 50% discount from their site for just € 300 with a nice cup for free. All in all, you can't expect much more. Is it worth it? In my opinion, yes. I will use it exclusively as a photography lens with filter (IR, ND, Polarizer) in which I can afford to have a lens that is not perfect. sent on August 04, 2025 |
