Nikon Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR Pros: Weight, decent optical quality, extension lock, lightweight, focal range Cons: Micro contrast to be reviewed, low brightness, color rendering, resolution on 45mpx Opinion: An honest, light, no-frills lens that costs what it delivers, considering both the focal range and the brightness. It's not an "S" lens, so it doesn't have all the treatments of its older sisters, and not even additional buttons and dials. A little unresolving on the 45mpx of the various Z7/8, it always remains a little soft. If the use you make of it is mainly web and social, there is no problem. Probably on less dense sensors this aspect improves and makes the lens much more interesting. Almost certainly due to the lack of treatments the micro contrast is lacking compared to 24-70/4 and 24-120/4, which in the end I preferred. However, this lens is very interesting for the focal range: starting from 24 is a significant plus. Better than competitors even on other brands (in January 2026), you go there serenely on vacation and it doesn't disappoint you. sent on 14 Gennaio 2026 |

Brightin Star 9mm f/5.6 Pros: Angle of view, decent sharpness at f8, construction, little distortion, including filters Cons: Soft at TA, color rendering in line with the price, suffering from flare, coma (but it's okay), flare, chromatic aberrations Opinion: If you know how to handle such a wide range, it's fun. Taken on a trip to Madeira to photograph the Levadas waterfalls, impossible with longer focal lengths, he fulfilled his task well. It seemed well made to me (it's metal, it weighs) and it's decently optically correct. Smooth, smooth dials, well-notified clicks for aperture change. Photographing through trees, fringing is persistent and difficult to remove, it is both in purple and green, depending on the area of the frame and the angle of incidence of light. Decent star, but flares that get everywhere, even if the sun is out of frame: while you shoot you struggle to see them, but then in editing they come out. Also used for some "ambient macros", mushrooms in the forest, with multiple exposures and manual focus stacking. Somewhat flat color rendering, it makes you work slightly in post, but better this way than having a hyper-contrasted lens that burns the highlights and blackens the shadows. Made some night shots, but thanks to the not really suitable aperture and the focal length so extreme the coma at the edges was really unwatchable, but it's okay, it's not a lens designed for this (on this I'm a "picky" then). From the other reviews it would seem that there is a wide variability in the specimens. Given the focal length there are no problems in focusing correctly, the ring is quite precise in scale (more than some pro Nikon lenses), but infinity that moves as the aperture changes. Used on the Z7II and Z8 it solved the 45mpx of the sensor well, with the limitations I highlighted: probably less dense sensors would be more tolerant on fringing and softness at TA. Never used filters, to smooth the water I just had to go down to 32 iso and close to f16, so I can say nothing more than that they are there and that they stick to the rear. For the price at which it is sold it is a lens that is worthwhile, if you accept its limitations. sent on 10 Gennaio 2026 |
