![]() | Canon RF 800mm f/11 IS STM Pros: Weight, portability, focus, sharpness. Cons: f.11, minimum focusing distance. Opinion: I express my opinion after intense use with the R7, for 3 years, for photos mainly of birds. The lens is very appreciated for its lightness and compactness, when closed, an excellent travel companion and specific for photos of distant subjects. In fact, it is a specialized lens and requires excellent knowledge and practicality of the instrument as, given its considerable magnification ratio, it must be used with appropriate precautions, especially evaluating the quality of air and light. Under the right conditions this lens returns sharp images and the stabilizer works very well. I also took photos with times of 1/250 freehand. If the subjects are close the images are always sharp but, if they are far away and the light conditions and the quality of the area are not good it is easy to take poor photos. This is due to a physical factor and does not depend on the quality of the lens. It also works well with the RF 1.4 extender with an obvious drop in quality, albeit minimal. In conclusion, if you are looking for an 800mm. which costs little, there are no alternatives, but which nevertheless allows you to shoot well and bring good results home. In my portfolio you can appreciate some images. sent on December 07, 2025 |
