![]() | Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Pros: More than decent optics Cons: It's not Nikon, compatibility problems with my Nikon D800. Opinion: Two days ago, I went to RCE Lainate to buy a Nikon AF 80-200 f2.8 ED D, the bighiera, a lens that I have already owned and that I think is fantastic, and a Nikon D700, the latter just for the sake of owning it. But given the condition of the lens, breaking the AF block, I decided to invest my little money available by buying the Sigma. After all the ritual CTRLs in the store, like a child who has just received his new toy, even if bought used, I run home to mount the lens I just bought on my Nikon D800 and... Nothing... the lens didn't work, the AF didn't work as well as the stabilizer... But how did it work in the store!! I mount the lens on my D90 and everything works perfectly. Heard RCE, they immediately made themselves available to replace the lens with an equal lens tested on Nikon D800 as they were aware of some problems of unfightability with some Sigma lots. However, looking for info on the net, I read that other users had encountered the same problem with Sigma optics due to the latest Firmware 1.11. released by Nikon which was installed on my D800. I perform as suggested by this forum, a Downgrade 1.10 of the firmware and everything works correctly. Now let's come to us, although I believe that rightly the dedicated lenses are in fact, a completely different thing, "not always", I consider this lens absolutely fantastic and pleasant, even to T.A. In short, what more can you expect, a dedicated Nikon, Naaaa... I am no longer a proffesionist who amortizes costs. Of course, however, that running into these inconveniences is not pleasant, I thank RCE of Lainate for their availability and patience, also because I read, that Sigma house, for a possible update of the purchased optic, would have charged and not a little. I would recommend it, wow it's sure that I experienced moments of real panic after this purchase, but once I downgraded the lens immediately made up for it with the shots it gave me back. sent on August 16, 2025 |
