![]() | Nikon D40x Pros: Lightweight and compact DSLR, CCD sensor, price, ergonomic, robust Cons: It suffers above ISO 800, so I recommend bright lenses. Menu a bit disorganized Opinion: Despite the age of the camera, I must say that it conveys the desire to do photography like no other. Combined with a fixed camera, such as the AF-S DX 35mm, it churns out moldable raw images and jpegs of good quality despite the 10 mp. In my opinion, moreover, being a simple camera, it does not have all the automatisms of modern cameras and allows you to get more into the photographer's part. It is a camera for amateur use, but it never disappoints. I would recommend it to those who are beginners, because it is a cheap camera (paid 50 euros as new on RCE), which allows you to cut your teeth, or to more experienced photographers who have broken the automatisms of modern cameras and would like to return to something more stimulating. The 3 focus points, the fact that there is no live view and the fact that there is no possibility of making videos are points in favor, if you reason with the philosophy of wanting a simple and reliable camera. Really sturdy despite the plastic: taken on trips to Greece, Finland and Croatia it has never disappointed me for two main reasons: 1-with a 16Gb SD card, you can take more than a thousand photos in RAW(NEF) which are light and editable in post. 2-the battery lasts a very long time and is easily available: I got to take 750 photos before arriving at almost empty battery. The only two cons are: 1-being a ccd sensor, it suffers at high iso, so to solve the problem I recommend bright lenses if you want to photograph in the evening / night or in situations of fast shutter speeds. 2-The camera menu is a bit confusing at first, but after reading the manual or with some tutorials on youtube you can decipher it. sent on June 18, 2025 |
