![]() | Canon 80D Pros: Accessibility and cost, ergonomics, battery, 100% viewfinder, semi-tropicalized body, dynamic range, color science, articulated touchscreen monitor, shutter up to 1/8000, good interface, burst, dedicated keys, flash, weight, auto-focus with good light, lens compartment (even 3rd parts), photographic quality Cons: AF not always good in low light and not fast or accurate, at 1600-3200max ISO too much noise with little detail and contrasts, JPEG in the camera losing sharpness, auxiliary light present only with Flash; lack of Focus Peaking, Zembras with over/under exposed areas, Intervalometer, Dual ISO, electronic shutter; lack (for now) of Magic Lantern to overcome most of the last things said Opinion: As an amateur and non-professional photographer, used camera bought 2 years ago instead of the 2000d. This camera for the value for money and the possible lens compartment, also given the Pros, is fantastic and phenomenal even after almost 10 years from its launch. Although it has its years, it is still very valid in the field of APS-C even against Mirrorless. Used for many photos and has never disappointed me, even having made a very reasoned purchase. On the other hand, its negative aspects are felt. In low light it doesn't always focus on the subject, ISO at 800 would already be the maximum to achieve, after which the loss of detail and the amount of noise is a lot (if you still work in RAW). Even shooting in Jpeg during the day makes you lose a bit of detail and quality (comparing it with your RAW or a Jpeg of a Sony A6400), it will be the low pass filter, it will be a bad procession in the camera but the JPEG does not show the details of the RAW. The AF assist beam is there and is useful but it is limited by the fact that it can only be used with the flash active. It lacks some stabilization (whether mechanical of the sensor or electronic) but it would be too much to ask of a 2016 machine. Weight for me is not a con, but as written a positive thing, moving the center of gravity of the weight of the camera + lens towards the latter using a tripod. Finally, the shortcomings mentioned in the "cons", although good, would be remediable with a version (still in progress) of Magic Lantern for 80d that would greatly improve the shot in Live-view. So to recap, even if I have exposed a lot of negative effects it is a wonderful machine especially for the price. By now there is no difference between the APS-C on the market (if not with the same objectives) with those of 2015/2016 except for the procession in the car of the photo. If you process a photo in RAW they will all be practically the same. I recommend this machine to enthusiasts who don't want to spend so much but want to have very good (excellent maybe with FF) results, you won't be disappointed if you know what you're buying. Recommended for: Street photography, Astrophotography, Reportage, Travel, Documentary, Landscape, Portraiture. Less recommended for: Naturalistic, Bird watching, Sporty, Fashion and Macro (for details), Wedding. Overall rating, evaluating everything to date: 3.5/5 (4/5 with Magic Lantern, I don't think anyone will reach 5/5) sent on October 03, 2025 |
