Panasonic Lumix FZ38 / FZ35 Pros: Practicality, extreme ergonomics, vintage colors of the CCD sensor, focal range, minimalism, robustness, availability of all the necessary functions and manual controls. Very very high-performance Leica light optics. The electronic viewfinder, obsolete, compared to modern OLEDs, (from an old intercom) you learn to use it for what it is, abstracting and reducing the composition of the shot to the essentials. from limit to value. Cons: for what he gives, no one. If you use it as a photographic notepad it is to always have a discreet camera at hand, going unnoticed. Ideal for stolen street shots, details unthinkable with the other lenses I have (almost 500 mm of Leica zoom !!), landscapes, portraits... everything practically. Opinion: I'm talking about the fz28 (10 MP), not the fz 38. Compared to all the ff, apc and analog cameras I have, it is my real gym and photographic "ship-school". Far from having discarded it, it is the one that is teaching me the most, because it is easier to make mistakes and does not forgive errors of exposure. It forces me to think, to anticipate the scene and the shot (shutter lag), forget about the burst and try many solutions without the encumbrance and mental commitment of having monsters of electronics that feed the guilt for mediocre photos, in the end, or very bad. The beauty of CCD and the possibility of exploiting its limits for artistic purposes is a plus, if you give up the fixation on the resolution and sharpness of pixels and look for more human (and imperfect) effects that can give emotions, as well as satisfaction to the eye. sent on 15 Marzo 2026 |

Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Pros: focal length, low weight, optical performance Cons: Sometimes bizarre autofocus Opinion: Given that I bought it used, it is a monster lens that really satisfies all the needs at least at my amateur level, if you don't want to carry around a set of fixed lenses (in my case 20-40-85 mm), wandering around the streets and moors. The sharpness and colors were, for me, very satisfactory and exceeded the expectations triggered by so many dubious if not negative reviews. I think the distortion at 24 mm is more a focal length problem than a lens problem per se, however I will try the correction in post production, if I have time, and I will be able to tell you, but I don't think it is a tragedy if you avoid shots of architecture and close-up portraits. The extreme focal length at 240 mm surprised me with its quality and sharpness. The focal ring is quite smooth except towards the extreme focal lengths on the tele side where it hardens a bit, but there are no problems of elongation of the barrel by gravity, with the camera on the shoulder. The weight, including the camera body I have (A7II), can be felt (about 1400 gr) but it can be supported, considering that you do practically everything with it. The autofocus gave me some problems, however, regardless of the brightness of the scene and the details, with some inexplicable black outs, which in truth were no longer repeated by changing detection modes. I don't know if this is a defect of the lens (used, by the way), or some inexperience of mine. In conclusion, it deserves a 9 with reservations (for the zoom issue, to be explored soon). For those who don't want complications of slow changes on the run, I highly recommend it, considering the affordable price (especially in the used one, as happened to me, and which prompted me to buy, given the occasion). sent on 20 Maggio 2024 |
