![]() | Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC Pros: Brightness, ease of use in manual, great for wide-field astrophotography, little or no aberrations, no unnecessary electronics Cons: I have not found any, but I specify that I make a very specific use (astrophotography) Opinion: I specify that my enthusiastic opinion probably depends on the fact that I use it in a very specific field (astrophotography). In this area, the performance is excellent. I find it solid, compact and easy to use in conditions that are not really comfortable. The focus was easy in live view at maximum magnification on the region of sky I was photographing. I tried to use a bahtinov mask to check the focus and basically I was already able to focus without having to make further corrections. The focus is fluid but not too much, which if it can be a "defect" in standard photography, in astrophotography is good because you do not risk inadvertently changing the focus for a simple touch of the lens during the shooting session. On my Nikon D5600 (aps-c) it has an equivalent focal length of about 127mm which makes it a great lens for wide-field astrophotography. With a light pollution filter of few pretensions (Rollei Astroklar, Nisi filters are out of budget for now) it gave surprising results even from an ultra-polluted sky (8/9 on the Bortle scale) like that of Rome city. I have not noticed any particular aberrations, even at the edges of the field of vision, but so far I have not used it at full aperture. I will update the review when I have tried it at full opening from skies darker than those of the capital. For those who do astrophotography with standard cameras I consider it an excellent purchase. They did more than lenses like this, and above all without useless electronics that in any case in astrophography is always deactivated. sent on June 08, 2023 |
