canon_50_f1-8stmCanon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM

Pros: Light, Sharp closing the aperture a little, Economical, Blurred

Cons: The plastic construction exposes it very much to scratches

Opinion: Purchased in April, I started squeezing it only from May. Initially I was worried about the image quality for how much I paid for it but the images immediately proved me wrong. Soft at full aperture, it improves a lot by closing it at f/2.2 and becomes perfect between f/2.8 and f/5.6. Mounted on 7DII it offers an angle of view equal to an 80mm which makes it, in my opinion, a best buy for portraitists. Its lightness is a huge point in its favor, I almost forgot to have it with me in the bag: unlike heavier lenses, you can dare with shutter speeds even higher than 1/50 without risking running into the blur (clearly on static subjects). The autofocus is STM type and is very fast and accurate, personally it has never given me problems. The only drawback in my opinion is the construction a bit plasticy that could make it easy to scratch (even if my specimen is still immaculate). In my view, it is a lens that, no matter how much it costs, cannot be asked for more. It would be a 6 but I give it 7 for the excellent value for money

sigma_28_f1-4artSigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art

Pros: Sharpness, Construction, Hood included and 77mm filters

Cons: AF from Tarare, Weight?

Opinion: I purchased this lens to have a wide angle to use for photos at night. Unfortunately as soon as I arrived I noticed that it suffered from back focus and therefore I was forced to buy the Sigma dock for AF calibration. The procedure is quite simple and does not take much time. Once finished the lens seemed reborn: Nitidissimo already at full aperture becomes sharp as a razor already at f / 1.8; At very open apertures the gap between subject and background is very hard but starting from f / 2.4 tends to soften a lot. On the 7DII I do not know full-aperture vignetting but it is definitely due to the APS-C sensor, I will evaluate on Full Frame how it behaves in the future. Using it in the evening demonstrates all its optical quality (I recommend it to those who take pictures of the Milky Way, star trail etc ...). I do not consider the weight a malus: I used it for whole days both mounted on the car and at the end of the day I did not feel tired. For someone else, weight might be a factor to consider. I would give 10 if it weren't for the fact that I had to calibrate the AF but you know, with Sigma, it's something that happens often. Rating 9
