panasonic_s1Panasonic S1

Pros: Sensor, viewfinder, ergonomics, robustness, L-mount mount

Cons: Autofocus not great in some rare situations

Opinion: As soon as it was taken in hand it was immediately love. To begin with, a feeling of solidity never encountered before (I used Nikon), then the handle that fits perfectly with my hands, the exceptional ergonomics with all the keys and rings right where they need to be. Bigger and heavier than the usual mirrorless, but this is an aspect that I consider positive. Let's talk about the viewfinder: here we are on a level that is completely "different" from what we have seen so far, it is something FANTASTIC! It is very close to the pentaprism, realistic, fast, faithful colors and a vision that makes you forget that you have "a screen" in front of your eye. I don't think you can find better on the market, certainly not in this price range. The sensor: here too we are close to perfection, with its 24 Mpx without "anti-aliasing" filter it returns a very beautiful and detailed image, with bright colors and a very natural complexion. The yield at high ISO then is something incredible. "Noise-free" files up to 10,000 ISO, then it starts to appear. The much-criticized self-focus is actually an excellent system, which only in rare circumstances shows some limitations. In most situations it hooks well (even in low light) and is very accurate. The gust is not "sporty" but is adequate for all other genres. For me, who prefer portraiture, it has no limits. The L-mount mount: one of the strengths of the machine, it allows you to mount lenses of the same Panasonic but also Leica and Sigma "dedicated". The autonomy: here too a great job has been done, we are not at the levels of the SLRs but still we have a very "generous" battery. In conclusion: A machine very close to EXCELLENCE, excellent sensor, top ergonomics, robust and that makes you want to shoot ... All the time! Rating 10.

Pros: Image quality, af speed, viewfinder, ergonomics.

Cons: Slow af in Lw

Opinion: I have been owning this machine for two years now and I can only be SATISFIED with it. It has an amazing image quality, holds the high ISOs very well (considering it has 45.7 Mpx) and the ergonomics are in my opinion PERFECT. It has a quick, precise and "hook" AF module well even with little light. Of course, "worthy" optics are needed to fully appreciate its potential (which are truly surmountable) and to make good use of its excellent sensor. The only negative note is the Af in Lw, which is slow. But it's little compared to everything else, in fact, I don't care at all since I don't even make videos. Vote 10.
