![]() | Canon 5D Mark II Pros: Colors, RAW workability, file quality, tropicalization, solidity, center point AF, light viewfinder, the files it churns out Cons: ISO over 1600, file shadow recovery, magenta sometimes difficult to manage, AF points other than the central one Opinion: Purchased back in 2012 it was my first full frame SLR and the camera that introduced me to photography. It has accompanied me everywhere in my travels, from the deserts of Australia to the frozen forests of Finland, it is a tank, with a feeling of incredible robustness and solidity. It makes excellent photographs, in these ten years of use I have been able to fully know its strengths and weaknesses and how to best adapt the post production in order to optimize the files it produces. At low iso and with the tripod gives shots of incredible quality, it is in any case very versatile also for street and travel photography, up to iso 1600. From the best of itself on bright days, the recovery on the shadows is quite disappointing, so you have to take it into account down during shooting and maybe overexpose slightly and then reduce the exposure in post. In situations where dominant magenta emerges, these are very difficult to manage, even with good post production. As for the AF, I have always used only the center point focusing and recomposing, the speed and accuracy is very good while, the same cannot be said for the other focus points that are not so reliable. You have to break a spear in favor of the brightness of the excellent viewfinder, look through it and hear the sound of the shutter is pure poetry. For the rest, it is a camera body to which I remain very fond and despite being dated, in my opinion it can give excellent results to those who have the patience to fully know its potential and the commitment to understand in depth its valid strengths. I recently upgraded to another model of the same house, but it must be said that I have a great memory of the 5D Mk II and if I think of all the adventures and magical moments we shared together, I can only feel a bit of nostalgia. sent on June 25, 2023 |
