canon_rf800_f11Canon RF 800mm f/11 IS STM

Pros: Lightweight, easy handling, perfectly balanced when extended with R7.

Cons: Difficult to hit the lens for the very narrow angle, about 2 ° on Aps-c, but it is an 800mm not a 50mm.

Opinion: I took it recently and I did tests with different settings, but I have to complete even if I found two good settings that I stored in C1 and C2. It is a 1280mm equivalent and therefore at 8 meters frames 15 x 20 cm, at 100 m a whole person. At 6 m, minimum distance of MAF is great for following insects in flight such as butterflies, for bees my problem (I am short-sighted) is to find the insect 6 m away, easy with some butterflies, much less with bees. Obviously it is a lens to be used a lot to get our hands on, surely it is difficult to follow birds in flight for the very narrow angle, you have to practice. The quality of the file seems good to me, see the photos I posted on Juza, certainly not comparable to the 800 f / 5.6 from 20K €, but it cost me 880 € with two years warranty! And it weighs only 1200g, with the R7 weighs exactly 2 kg, you can carry it for hours without getting tired even for the excellent balance, the center of gravity with R7 is exactly on the tripod attack. I would have liked a swivel attachment. I immediately took the hood, € 27 with shipping, necessary to protect the front lens and side lights. Examples of photos of the much-mistreated pair R7 + 800 in my dedicated gallery, I appreciate observations and criticisms. Thank you.

canon_90dCanon 90D

Pros: Ergonomics, autonomy, 32 Max and then crop. Focus braketing. and much more.

Cons: It is an Aps-c, but it is an advantage in birdlife.

Opinion: I use 90D for birdlife and macros. In birdlife I use the 100-400IS II at f / 5.6 and with the 32 Mpx is like photographing with FF 20Mpx with the 800 5.6 with the advantage that weighs half and for itinerant hunting this matters a lot especially for photos on the fly that I prefer. Regolo ISO 400 or 800 mx and therefore I have no noise problems. I32 Max on Canon Apsc is equivalent to 82 Max on FF. To date, no FF is so dense. Photos do not need corrections even with automatic exposure and balance, perfect RAW photos, excellent JPGs ready as they come out, see my gallery to check how much I write. Sequence on the fly (2 sec to frame and photograph a sudden take-off of heron out of sight at close range, the bird fills the whole frame) a dozen photos with 8 in focus (see the eye). For photos of posing animals I use the micropoint with PERFECT MAF even between the branches. The 50mm 1.4 so despised for the MAF is instead perfect with the micropoint and obviously in LW. I do not think there is anything more comfortable than the coupled 90D with PB + 100-400 for itinerant hunting both for weight (about 3 Kg9 and for handling in photos on the fly. EOS 1DxIII with 800 f/5.6 weighs twice as much, costs 4-5 times and the result if you do not need exaggerated ISO is the same. In macro I use the 100 USM IS 2.8, nominal ratio 1/1 but in aps-c is 1.6/1, perfect torque, perfect focus braketing completed automatically with Digital Photo Professional. (For the other photos I use EOS R with L RF and EF lenses with excellent results).

canon_2x_v2Canon EF 2.0x II

Pros: It maintains all automationswith all L optics from 135 f/2L is tropicalized.

Cons: Too bad it can't be used with 100 Macro f/2.8 IS

Opinion: I was also undecided whether to take a canon extender or a compatible to multiply my 135 L and 200L ii and get a 320 f/4 and 400 f/5.6. I had tried a universal but it had not satisfied me. Instead I took used less than 300 degrees this second generation canon and I fell in love with it: the loss of sharpness is negligible, the autofocus with the 6D hooks that is a beauty even birds in flight. In January of this year I bought the 90D and the latest version of the 100-400 f/5.6 IS USM and I thought I'd sell it, but I have verified that with the 90D in LIVE view hooks, focuses and automatically follows even at f/11 with 100-400, so I keep it to photograph the moon and more on easel, I get an 800 f/11 autofocus from 26 magnifications!!

canon_200_f2-8Canon EF 200mm f/2.8 L II USM

Pros: everything: great canvas, with the 90D equals a 320mm 2.8, light, handy, very fast MAF.

Cons: Maybe the slightest distance of MAF, but I took it to photograph from afar, up close I have the 100 2.8 IS USM Macro.

Opinion: I bought it used at 450 euros, it came perfect and I started using it with the 60D. I also took the TC 2x Canon II version and it becomes a good 400 the maximum I had with the 90D, instant MAF, excellent blur, colors that do not require post production. I come from 30 years of analogue in which you should not miss the exposure and then even now with digital if I'm careful as before I have no need for post production except for the crop that the 90D allows well (see photos of frogs, crop to 0.3-0,4). It's like having a 400 2.8 on full frame of 20 Mpx. With its brightness it does not need thousands of ISOs and therefore I do not need amazing ISOs, those of the Canon 60D, 6D and 90D are also too many. I rarely use 1600. Great purchase that I would do with my eyes closed. Very recommended.
