![]() | Viltrox AF 16mm f/1.8 Pros: Price, construction, screw filters, aperture, display and much more. Cons: Flare and lens hood attachment. Opinion: I hadn't heard very good things about the first Viltrox lenses, but this 16mm pulled me a lot, so I decided to get it... to immediately put it to the test in Iceland with a my Sony a7IV. Purchased in March 2024 for €550, so a super honest price, I was immediately fascinated, aluminum construction, well-done tropicalization, excellent display and firmware updates directly from the app without any adapter. This lens was my choice for many reasons, in addition to the features I have already mentioned above, this lens offers f/ 1.8 aperture, with excellent sharpness already at f/ 2.2, good coma for night photos from f/2.8, super useful display for focusing, with two customizable buttons, one of which is personally set to "infinite" focus to have point stars. You arrive at the spot, position the camera, with a click the lens is set to the desired focus and I am ready to shoot at my sky... It seems little but at night it saves a lot of time. Being a super wide-angle, it still offers the possibility of mounting 77mm screw filters, also a great plus point! Focus? Excellent, fast and with an excellent response also on the video side. Could you ask for more? In my opinion, considering the price, I think not! What I didn't like is definitely the coupling of the lens hood, bad, with a minimum movement the lens hood (not of excellent workmanship) comes off and you risk losing it. Some attention to be paid in the light vignetting very manageable in post and also to flares, with direct lights in my opinion it suffers a bit. I conclude by saying that after months of use, even in bad weather and/or light situations, it has always satisfied me and I highly recommend its purchase. In my profile there are many photos taken thanks to this little gem. sent on October 14, 2024 |
