canon_200dCanon 200D

Pros: An extremely functional machine: compact, lightweight, easy to handle, easy to use

Cons: Inability to exclude the flash by default (at least, I have not found a way to do so)

Opinion: I bought it a few years ago - taking advantage among other things of a good discount, being about to go out of production, alternating it with a Sony A7 - with a specific function: combine it with a spectacular Tamron 150-600 mm, making the most of the crop factor of 1.6. The machine has also proved to be an extremely functional tool, unexpectedly capable of producing files of remarkable quality, without having to waste too much time in post-production, with a good range of lenses. The extreme compactness and lightness are very appreciable, it finds a good balance even with the heavy superzoom with which I use it ordinarily; extraordinary files that are obtained with the eclectic Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro, both in macro and portraits. Combined with the remarkable Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM, you get a very lightweight, discreet street-camera capable of producing excellent images even in low light conditions. Excellent and immediate connectivity, it has no particular defects: the only 9 focus points, for my purposes are not a problem; adequate yield at high ISO; burst not very fast, but adequate for an occasional use for sports or nature photos; Soft simple and effective management, except for the impossibility of removing the otherwise excellent flash by default.

sony_zeiss24-70_f4Sony FE 24-70mm f/4 ZA OSS Vario Tessar T*

Pros: Mechanically stunning, robust and light, excellent stabilization; great sharpness, excellent resolution, good micro contrast, pleasant bokeh, great flare control

Cons: At full openness, it shows a slight vignette and a not perfect definition at the edges; tendency of the barrel to scratch

Opinion: Of the Zeiss 24-70 mm f/4 - whose excellent stabilization compensates well for the one absent in the machine body of my Sony a7 - I can not find all the defects that are attributed to it, even comparing it with similar optics; I appreciate the lightness, the compactness, the robustness, the mechanical precision, the overall quality of the images, the excellence of the autofocus. Certainly, at full opening, vignette at the edges that also lose something in definition (like most zooms), but just close it by a couple of shots that the problem disappears. Flare always under control and pleasant bokeh, although sometimes, in the presence of strong contrasts, tends to lose something in softness. The most striking thing, in a "basic" lens of 700 euros, but built with really high standards, is the sharpness that, at all the focal points, except on the edges at full opening, is truly amazing. The only real defect is that the barrel, being made of aluminum, is sensitive to scratches. A great optics elated to a great value for money! Rating: 9

sony_a7Sony A7

Pros: Exceptional sensor, produces both RAW and JPG files of the highest quality; compact size, light and extremely handy even for those with large hands; spectacular manual focus (focus peack); excellent software, able to give adequate answers to every situation (the menu is very complete, without being exaggeratedly complex); Excellent buttons and auxiliary wheels, widely customizable....

Cons: SLOW AF; sensor that gets dirty with great ease; battery life; very loud shot (but with a nice sound!) ...

Opinion: It is my first FF and I must say that it has fully met my needs as a photoamateur: the quality of the files is exceptional, especially in good light conditions and good is the "hold" to noise up to 6400 ISO. The dynamic range and quality of colors are excellent. In light of the purchase price - new to just over 700 euros - it certainly constitutes an excellent product, especially when used, by virtue of its lightness, as a travel camera. In my case, after trying several goals, I found myself very well with the Zeiss 24-70 mm f/4, whose excellent stabilization compensates for the one absent in the machine body, of which I do not meet all the defects that are attributed to it, instead appreciating the lightness, sharpness and overall image quality, in the face of little criticality... and at an attractive price! In summary, the a7 has a compact and sufficiently robust body, with a decent tropicalization (I used it in adverse climatic conditions, but did not suffer), the image quality is always excellent; It has a good electronic viewfinder and you appreciate the practicality of a tilting and rather robust display. The auxiliary keys are well made and allow an excellent possibility for customization. Even if it is not a video amateur, I appreciate the quality of the videos produced (in this case, the failure to stabilize the machine body is most affected) and, all in all, the dislocation of the video activation button is not so uncomfortable. Great software and camera features, extremely evolved, as is great the ability to connect, including the fast and practical built-in Wi-Fi. Among the flaws, the main, in my opinion, is the autofocus, sometimes slow and inaccurate not only in poor light conditions, and the rather reduced battery life, which can only be recharged by the camera (but there are excellent third-party products that at a low cost to this problem).) It's a pity that the Sony lens fleet, which with 2019 can finally be said to have been completed, is still quite expensive, while boasting excellent products at a low price (such as the excellent 85 mm f/1.8); Fortunately there are excellent optics of other manufacturers, which, at acceptable cost, fill this deficiency (exceptional the combined with the 14 mm f/2.8 AF of Samyang!). Finally, I find that the menu is not as disastrous as it reads - but perhaps in this I am benefited from the fact that I have used for many years a Sony bridge that, basically, had the same menu as the A7. In conclusion, I can say that who wants a low-cost FF, light and compact, but capable of giving high - very high! - results for portraiture, landscapes, travel, street (but not suitable for naturalistic or sports photography, especially in poor light condition), the A7, still in production, is a great deal! samyang_af14_f2-8Samyang AF 14mm f/2.8 FE

Pros: Robust construction, stunning sharpness, fast and accurate AF even in poor light conditions

Cons: Price still altino, light-predictable-distortion, light flare

Opinion: A lens that fascinated me! I used it for a few weeks-I have not bought it yet, hoping that the price, still find it substantially adequate to the values expressed, Cali a little! -In combination with my Sony A7. It has an excellent AF, fast and precise. I find that the lens is very well done, light, well built, with cheap but sturdy finishes. It highlights, in some contexts and at full aperture, a slight distortion at the edges, but nothing dramatic. What shocked me is the sharpness, which does not even give up in poor light conditions. Presents, in the most pushed backlight, a slight flare.

sony_hx400vSony HX400V

Pros: A huge camera, extremely functional and able to deal with any situation, getting into difficulty, due to the modest size of the sensor, in low light conditions. Extraordinary optics, powerful software - essentially the same as the Alfa 7.

Cons: Virtually nothing, except a slowdown in autofocus and lower image quality in poor light conditions.

Opinion: I've been using it for two years, most recently alongside a Sony Alfa 7, and, I have to say, it never disappointed me. The Zeiss optic of great quality gives amazing photographs, also suitable to be printed in formats not too large, provided made in good light condition: on the other hand you can not expect the 1/2.3" sensor to work wonders. Great and practical software, which allows you to finely adjust the camera: basically the same as the FullFrame older sisters. Fast and precise - under normal light conditions - focus. Ergonomic and solid machine body and easy grip. Despite the small size of the sensor, the goodness of the lens means that no annoying edge distortions or excessive vignettes are found. Even at the maximum focal length (equivalent to 1200 mm), it maintains a more than good image quality. Also great for making macrophotographs. Having a good brightness, however, guarantees a good bokeh, with delicate grain. He does pretty well for making videos, too. The battery allows you to take over 300 shots. Rather robust, it did not fail at the 45th of the Judas Desert in July or the -27th of the Fusine Lakes in January. In relation to the very favorable value for money, it is a great investment! An update: after 3 years and a week of happy use, the machine, suddenly, without warning and without reason (a bang, a fall) began - January 2019 - to communicate a code of malfunction, corresponding to the break of the indispensable - and great! Stabilizer. The bad news is that the cost of replacing the stabilizer and related work to be carried out at an official Sony center, coincides with the amount with which I purchased, new, the camera. According to some thematic blogs and some websites, the problem is widespread. Ergo, despite using it with great satisfaction, I switched to another brand (I bought an APS-C Canon EOS D200 which I will combine in autumn 2019 a superzoom SIGMA 150-600 mm model C, loving very much shoot with long focals). In fact, I do not find it tolerable that there is the exitial, but widespread habit of planned obsolescence, especially in cameras and especially in Sony products.
