Reviews of cameras, lenses, tripods, heads and other accessories written by Bombrice

Microsoft Translator  The following opinions have been automatically translated with Microsoft Translator.

sony_fe100macro_gm Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 Macro GM OSS

Pros: Excellent sharpness and resolution; Excellent, precise, silent AF; portability. As a good GM he already has everything you could ask for a goal... even what you almost never use, but which is there if needed! You can use it with the duplicator! Not trivial! And I have to say that apart from the brightness, it practically loses almost nothing even with the 2x

Cons: For now I can't find fault with it.

Opinion: I've been using it for less than a month with season and weather I would say quite unfavorable for a macro naturalistic use. Comparing it to its predecessor 90 G (which I still use and like) I would say that it is the natural evolution. It behaves very similarly with the cameras I use (A9: do what you want in autofocus and I can track insects that move fractions of a millimeter with the new AI tracking cameras it will be even better I guess; A7R2: manual focus is always better, due to the limits of the machine). I find it brilliant to be able to use the 2x and to be able to get a shot at 1x at safe distances so as not to let the subjects flee... No more cropping! Or almost. With TC2x mounted, I shot by leaning the lens hood against the bark of a tree, things that were hardly perceptible to the naked eye. I have to try it on video which is not my forte, but I think it can give great satisfaction also thanks to the declickable aperture ring. In general, for those who use sony and love the photography of flora and entomofauna, I would say that it is what was missing. Among other things, also used for portraits or other, I find it very pleasant both for the blur and for the general rendering.

sony_fe90macro Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS

Pros: Image quality, construction, AF.

Cons: Nothing when used with the right body.

Opinion: The only addition to the opinions/reviews already written: I use it on both A9 and A7R2. It makes a huge difference! If I am in entomological hunting I use the A9 with which it can lock on to subjects a few cm moved by the wind freehand even at f10 and with little light. Practically a point and shoot, lightning-fast it is sufficiently responsive and fast to maintain focus in very borderline situations; which for a macro is not obvious, especially when you have the subject 5 cm or less from the lens hood. With the A7R2, in macro only in manual because now that it ends with focus breathing the insect is already gone. Therefore more static subjects. Then of course, I prefer the file of this one because it is more "pasty" and natural, but then they are tastes.

sony_a9 Sony A9

Pros: Light, easy to handle, very fast, spectacular AF, remarkable buffer considering the age of the camera, battery life.

Cons: No sensor protection when the machine is switched off for lens change, screen mobility.

Opinion: I took it for nature photography (especially birds) and combined with the sony 200-600 it goes which is a wonder. The AF is fast and accurate. It's brilliant to be able to program the telephoto function button in the car: I keep it set to wide zone tracking, since I almost always use the expanded flexible spot, so in case of sudden passages in the free field I just have to press, point and focus! ;-) Well made, solid, well sealed, customizable well beyond my needs, the perfect camera for those who want to photograph moving subjects and being an amateur cannot or do not want to afford an A1 or an A9 III. By the way, with the LA_EA5 adapter, you use the SONY A mount SSM lenses as if they were FE, my Sony ZA 24-70 f2.8 SSM works better with this than with the A77 I had before! P.S. I've never been able to understand why sony didn't immediately switch the brilliant articulated screen of the A77/A99 to the mirrorless series, which was not at all delicate and only now, years later, is returning to the new models (but I don't know if it's the same system). This is just fine for taking photos flush with the ground looking at the cockpit.

sony_a7r_ii Sony A7r II

Pros: Very nice and workable files, excellent dynamic range, noise not annoying even when present at rather high ISO. Second-hand price.

Cons: Battery life, slow operation, low light and low contrast autofocus.

Opinion: I took this camera as a second body, mainly for portraits, landscapes, macro and street. So the cons listed (but I already knew it) are not or are not a problem for the use I make of them. I consider it a meditation camera, let's say. I have to say that the quality of the files it churns out impressed me a lot, I immediately had a great feeling. I have to say that I mainly used it with the Zeiss FE 50 f1.4 with which it is difficult to take bad photos. I made some comparisons with my A9: same lens, same settings, same subject. The photos are apparently identical, but those taken with the R2 seem more defined and yet "softer". Going up with the ISO it gives me the impression that this is less aggressive, at least to my taste. Basically, a machine that can still give great satisfaction if it is used in the areas for which it was designed, at a truly affordable cost by looking a little.
