Hello again. in Blog EN

Hello. It has been awhile since I posted anything on Juza. Since that time, I've moved from Bangkok to southern Ecuador, to a very small village named Vilcabamba. Ecuador has granted me permanent residency for which I am very grateful. Several of my cameras and lenses were stolen several years ago but the essential items have been replaced like the Sony a850. My Sony a7 was replaced by the Sony a7II. I've added a few lenses, the most significant being the Minolta AF 28-135mm f4-4.5, which is an extraordinary lens IMO and at forty years old, one of the oldest autofocus lenses. I could be content with only that lens and the a850. Mostly I've been posting my photos on Flickr but that platform has become very disagreeable to me lately and I'll be discontinuing it more or less.

Sony a7 camera in Blog EN

I just bought a Sony a7 camera with the kit lens, FE 28-70mm f3.5-5.6. The improvements it offers over the a850 and a very attractive price from Amazon (US) even with shipping and customs strongly recommended it. It will probably supplant the a850 as my main camera though I prefer the size and heft of the DSLR. I bought the kit lens because I don't have any e mount lenses, and it only added $150 to the price of the outfit. A little testing shows it to be very satisfactory in every respect. Mostly, though, I'll be using the camera body with my m42 manual focus lenses.
A sample photo taken with the camera and kit lens is in my "Odds and Sods" gallery.

I'm American, retired and living in Bangkok. I've been involved with photography as an amateur since college. I used to have a black and white darkroom and developed my B&W films and made large prints for exhibition.

I have several digital cameras but almost exclusively photograph with a Sony Alpha a850, a camera that sits solidly in the hands and has a 24 megapixel sensor that renders my photos wonderfully. I rarely use AF, preferring older m42 lenses of which I have about thirty, mostly Takumars. I use PlayMemories Home to organize the output and Lightroom and Nik (thanks again, Google) to post-process. I dislike using a tripod but will if necessary and don't use flash.
