![]() | Sirui T-005X Pros: Compact suitable for travel and for small cameras (compacts, mirrorless with moderately heavy lenses, not super teles!!), easy to set up with a simple twist and turn. Reasonably steady even in windy conditions. Easy on-easy off tripod head and the newer X version has an additional press-on button lock which prevents accidental sliding off of the camera mount (tripod head). Cons: Might be a bit challenging if fully extended and in windy terrains with chunkier cameras. The somewhat unusual height of the middle pillar (supporting the camera) can lead to some instability and vibrations particularly with long teles and macro set-ups. The central hook helps to make the centre of gravity more stable by hanging a heavy weight (camera bag full of goodies, or backpack etc). The advantages (AND PRICE) more than make up for the deficiencies in MOST situations. Opinion: Great accessory, looks like a well-made product, with impeccable price, finish and utility and packaging! It represents a new generation of Made in China products that will go a long way to dispel the stereotypical negative impressions that earlier Chinese products cast on the minds of western markets. Perhaps tripods like these should incorporate a heavier (solid instead of tubular) lowest/lower two leg sections in similar tripods which have more than 3 sections for added stability without necessarily increasing the total carrying weight...? sent on September 25, 2017 |
![]() | Canon G5 X Pros: Body grip, tilting and swivelling LCD, superior EVF, Leaf shutter which allows flash to sync upto 1/2000 (making HSS less essential in most well-lit contrasty situations, pocketable size (non jeans wearers!), reasonably adequate range optical zoom and good correction in JPEGs, hot shoe, good capture performance, oodles of options and settings! Excellent wi-fi connectivity, currently decently priced (Cdn $799.99) {mark II arrival is hot in the rumour mill!!} Cons: not so good battery life (with eco on can push up to 300), okay movies, lens ring should have been non-click or a click-cancelling option, remote jack should also have mic option for better sound by using hot shoe microphone, currently decently priced (Cdn $799.99). Opinion: Near perfect 2nd camera in my opinion. Missing 4K video is still new technology and 4K tvs are still quite expensive and so underutilized feature and many 4K cameras seem to be plagued by battery life and heat etc. If mark II version which is due according to rumours available by 2017 Christmas or early 2018 and Canon does not remove features or mess around with the physical design (do not touch the EVF, dimensions, Swivel-tilt LCD, etc) and hopefully improve the image quality a bit through upgrading the lens and/or processor (digic 7 is way faster than currently incorporated digic 6), and be able to sell at current prices or marginally higher, then it would be a greater purchase than current model. (unlike Fuji X-E3 which added features to X-E2s but took away or did not add needed features (touch and tilt screen etc, pop up flash gone etc). AS IT STANDS, the G5X would be a worthwhile purchase as a 2nd, backup or travel/street camera. sent on September 24, 2017 |
